Within the last decade, e-commerce has increased at an extraordinary level. The widespread use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (VAVs) in the logistics sector can reduce traffic density, improve delivery time, and can provide contactless delivery. This work proposes a new hybrid VAV, that combines the benefits of vertical take-off and land vehicle and a fixed-wing aircraft. It can carry multiple packages, which can decent automatically towards the recipients. This approach eliminates time-consuming landing maneuvers of the VA V for delivery. This work focuses on the design of the vehicle, and the challenges of the transitions from VTOL to aircraft modes and vice versa with a Model Predictive Controller. © 2021 IEEE.

Injection molding is one of the most common methods for the mass production of plastic products with complex geometries. However, while injection molding is a highly convenient and cost-effective method, some problems still remain, including warpage, quality variations, surface defects, insufficient physical properties of the finished parts, and so on. During the ejection stage, one of the most serious problems is that of sticking at the interface between the molded part and the cavity surface. The adhesion force inhibits the release of the molded part from the mold surface, and can lead to serious defects, such as distortion and cracking. The adhesion phenomenon is particularly common in the injection molding of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Numerous factors affect the intensity of the mold adhesion force, including the injection molding conditions, the surface morphology, the surface modification conditions, and the rheological properties of the molten polymer. To clarify the effect of the molding conditions on the mold adhesion level, the present study uses a tensile mode mold adhesion tester to measure the adhesion force for various values of the mold temperature, melt temperature and injection speed. In addition, the surface free energy (SFE) of the molded parts is measured in order to better understand the correlation between the wettability and the processing conditions. © 2018 Society of Plastics Engineers. The oil refinery industry has a potential emission reduction by combining its fossil fuel with Renewable Energy usage. One alternative to reduce carbon emissions is the hybrid power system using solar panels for electricity generation. This research will observe the optimum scenario for utilizing a hybrid power system. The research subject is observed refinery facilities that will be built in Indonesia, where the electricity source used formerly comes from fossils. The monitored parameters are Cost of Energy (COE) and carbon emission. optimization involves three scenarios involving basic and hybrid configurations. The basic scenario is the initial configuration of the electricity supply with power source from the generator and PLN (national's utility). The first scenario is a hybrid power plant utilizing the roofs of existing buildings in the refinery area. The second is a hybrid power plant with a battery to supply electricity at night, at the capacity of renewable energy (RE) of 20% and 40%. Compared to the basic scenario, scenario 1 increases COE by 0.17% and reduces carbon emission at 0.3% compared to the basic scenario. Scenario 2 with 20% and 40% of renewable energy are obtained at COE of 4.7% and 44.3%, while reducing emissions occurred at 38% and 52.7%, respectively. The scenario of a hybrid power system with a 20% renewable energy is the optimal result compared to the other scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

The coatings on fruits after harvested was applied to maintain the appearance and quality up to the consumer's hands. This study aimed to maintain color and reduce the level of decay of salak madu during storage. Salak madu was obtained from Madding Fresh, trader and supplier salak from Sleman, Yogyakarta. The salak was coated with Aloe vera gel (20% and 50%) and beeswax (3, 6, and 10%). All samples were stored at 25-28 °C. The parameters used to measure the effect of treatment are skin color, percentage of decay, and weight loss. Observations were carried out for 12 days. The results of this study were found that dyeing on a coating made from Aloe vera 50% was able to slow down weight loss and percentage of decay until the 6 days, while Aloe vera 30% was better at maintaining color changes during storage. Beeswax 3% coating can slow down discoloration and percentage of decay until 6 days of storage. Long-term storage (12 days) with beeswax 10% was better in maintaining changes in the quality of salak madu, while for short-term storage (6 days), beeswax 3% gives better results. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Melt viscosity, determined by the shear rate, barrel temperatures, and pressure during plasticization, greatly affects the flow ability of polymer melts as well as the quality of injection-molded parts. In particular, the consistency of molding qualities is highly relevant to the plasticizing quality at each cycle (i.e., injection molding requiring a high yield rate highly relies on the stability of polymer melts). However, numerous factors affect the plasticizing quality, including the geometry of injection screws, processed polymer materials, processing parameters of plasticization such as the feeding rate, screw rotational speed, barrel temperatures, back pressure, and screw backward speed. The conventional approach of plasticization in injection molding machines uses a single reciprocating screw for conveying, melting, and metering polymer melts. The plasticizing quality is roughly adjusted by indirectly controlling barrel temperatures;thus, the melt viscosity varies. An in-suit approach of assuring melt quality is to measure the melt viscosity variation online, which is a more suitable indicator of the plasticizing quality than temperature. This study thus monitored the melt viscosity variations in polymer melts by using in-mold pressure sensors. Furthermore, the effects of the injection velocity and mold temperature on the melt viscosity variations were examined.

The current study focuses on the application of the nonlinear negative stiffness mechanism to a Salter's duck, which is a well-known wave energy conversion (WEC) device known for its efficiency of 90% in 2D regular waves. Despite the proven efficiency of WEC devices, they face the challenge of producing a stable system that can effectively extract energy from constantly changing wave conditions. Recent studies have shown that the use of negative stiffness can address this issue, and this approach has been adopted in the present study for the pitch-type WEC-rotor (Salter’s duck). The study employed a time domain analysis based on linear potential theory to examine the impact of factors such as spring length and stiffness on wave energy extraction in both regular and irregular wave conditions. The results of the study showed that the incorporation of negative stiffness improves the extraction of wave energy. © 2023 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).

For measuring the rotation engine vibration signals, the mechanical or acoustical sensors are dif-ficult to get the clean signals from the heavy background noise of the machinery environment. The noise reduction algorithm may anticipate to decrease the background noise without disturbing the unpolluted signal. The spectral subtraction methods for noise attenuation case are reached for many years due to its simple and effectively. In this paper, the proposed algorithm incorporates the multiscale spectral subtraction method (MSS) with voice activity detector (VAD) and sup-ports vector machine (SVM) for removing the background noise, since SVM can be required for distinguishing a multivariate signal into separated subcomponents. From the analysis case for the rotating machinery, MSS shows that the low frequency with their harmonics frequencies can be tracked through the clustering of the data from SVM. The present method is helpful in background noise and signal compartmentalization as its application can significantly lower the requirement for labelled training cases in both the inductive noise and wanted signals.

This paper presents a fundamental study of jet directional control, i.e., thrust vectoring, using a synthetic jet generated by an asymmetric stepped slot. We present and discuss the results for a synthetic jet generated by a one-sided asymmetric stepped slot and focus on the relationship between the traveling direction of the formed jet and the offset ratio of the stepped slot and/or dimensionless frequency of the synthetic jet, within a jet deflection angle range of 0–90°. We demonstrate that there is an optimum offset ratio for jet deflection under the same dimensionless frequency because the traveling direction of the synthetic jet is dependent on the offset ratio of the stepped slot and the dimensionless stroke length (dimensionless frequency). © 2020, Turbomachinery Society of Japan. Fluoroscopy in a low-dose tube output is used to reduce the damage associated with radiation exposure. However, lowering the radiation dose inevitably increases random noise in x-ray images, resulting in poor diagnostic image quality, which requires noise reduction for accurate diagnosis. Also, in the case of non-static objects, the image is blurred due to motion. The most-used denoiser with a recursive filter (RF) preserves details well when applied to temporal data, but it is vulnerable to motion blur. Existing convolutional neural network (CNN)-based algorithms with single-frame input cannot use the temporary context, and others with multi-frame input are good for motion detection but poor for detail preservation. Therefore, we propose a motion-level-aware denoising framework to combine the results of RF- and CNN-based algorithms depending on the pixel-wise magnitude of motion to complement each other. The data we use are fluoroscopy images taken in continuous time, and we aim at many-to-one so that one frame is denoised by considering sequential frames. Also, since both RF- and CNN-based algorithms used in our architecture are many-to-one methods, they can consider spatiotemporal information. In the multi-frame input, the difference in intensity of each pixel between frames is calculated to obtain a moving map. Depending on the factor value from the moving map, the final image is obtained by reflecting the outputs of the RF- and CNN-based algorithms. If the factor value is high, the pixel intensity of the final image is like the CNN-based output, which is good for motion detection, and vice versa, it more reflects the intensity of RF output, which is excellent in perceptual quality. Therefore, it prevents motion blur and does not over-smooth microdetails, such as bones and muscles. The results show that combining the two outputs together records higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and has better perceptual quality for diagnosis than using only one method. F

Mung bean seeds decreased their viability very fast during storage, especially in tropical area without proper packaging. The purpose of this study is to observethe decrease in viability of mung bean seeds during storage and to build a mathematical model for shelf life prediction. Dried mung bean seeds were vacuum packed and stored in Accelerated Shelf-life Testing chamber at five different temperatures of 30° C, 35° C, 40° C, 45° C, 50° C with approximately 80% in relative humidity, to facilitate rapid deterioration with different rate of physical and chemical change in the seed. The results show that there was an increase in moisture content and the germination decreased in different rates. Changes in values for some parametersof the seeds affected the viabilty of the seeds during rapid deterioration. The value of constant (k)for viability decreasing was calculated and used to build the mathematical model for predicting the shelf life of mung bean seeds during storage at any temperature. Using the developed model, it was observed that the shelf life of the Sriti variety of mung bean seeds in vacuum packaging could maintain 90% of germination level for 421 days or 14.3 months if stored at 20 °C, and for 173.37 days or 5.78 months if stored at 25 °C. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
