The article presents custom digital processing system design with use of state-of-the-art SoC-FPGA technology using ARM Coretex-A9 dual core processor embedded in Altera programmable Logic Array. In article a discussion is conducted about possibilities of using custom programmable logic architecture alongside with hard-core processor system for real-time image processing adopted to dual-channel radiometric thermal image processing system. Details about hardware-software engineering, driver design for Linux operating system, application engineering and design considerations in highly customisable environment based on Altera SoC-FPGA is presented.

The quality of products and processes is a permanent challenge for industries, and such challenge is no different in steelmaking processes. One of the main problems affecting the quality of steel products is the existence of contaminants in alloy steel, and phosphorus (P) is a major contamination element interfering with the steelmaking process. The increased P levels can severely affect the physical integrity of steel bonds, thus threatening the quality of the final product. This paper proposes a robust approach to model the phosphorus concentration levels in the steelmaking process. The proposed approach consists in applying the artificial neural networks techniques for improving the energetic efficiency of the industrial process. We used the improved neural network models inspired in the human nervous system for processing the information. The different techniques used for modelling the phosphorus levels investigate the variables that have a significant influence on refining process. Based on the better predictive model, the increase of phosphorus levels in the final product is related to initial levels of carbon, oxygen, magnesium, manganese oxide and calcium oxide. The results illustrate the efficiency of the techniques used in the modelling, with emphasis on the adequacy of the predictive models constraints in the refining process. This study presents a relevant strategy to model characteristics' of raw material based on forecasting strategy to the efficiency of alloys and steel industry. Copyright © 2016, AIDIC Servizi S.r.l.

To address the growing concern of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) entering the airspace over a public event, building, or other protected spaces (whether for recreational purposes or with malicious intent), we are developing a counter-sUAS solution. This solution is based on an aerial intercept vehicle that autonomously pursues the target sUAS and launches a net to entangle the propellers and/or unbalance the sUAS to bring it to the ground. The intercept vehicle is a hexacopter that is guided by a visible-light camera and a single-pixel lidar mounted on a gimbal to track the target sUAS. A custom-built, lightweight, C02 cartridge-powered, net launcher mounted to the top of the vehicle fires when the intercept vehicle is oriented properly at the target and when it is in range. In this manuscript, we describe the problem constraints, system design, image processing chain, computational infrastructure, physical implementations, and various measurements of performance. We describe the current state of development and our experience with the challenge of designing effective countermeasures. The Cross-Entropy (CE) method has been designed to solve rare event simulation problems and later extended to single-objective optimization problems. In this paper, we propose a novel CE approach for multi-objective optimization and applied it to the multiobjective version of TEAM (Testing Electromagnetic Analysis Method) workshop problem 22, demonstrating promising results in terms of performance.

Optimization metaheuristics are a powerful way to deal with many electromagnetic optimization problems. Recently, the symbiotic organisms search (SOS) algorithm was proposed to solve single-objective optimization problems. SOS mimics the symbiotic relationship among the living beings. In order to extend the classical mono-objective SOS algorithm approach, this paper proposes a new multi-objective SOS (MOSOS) and an improved IMOSOS. Results on a multi-objective constrained brushless direct current (DC) motor design show that the MOSOS and IMOSOS present promising performance.

Forecasting has always been at the forefront of decision making and planning. The uncertainty that surrounds the future is both exciting and challenging, with individuals and organisations seeking to minimise risks and maximise utilities. The large number of forecasting applications calls for a diverse set of forecasting methods to tackle real-life challenges. This article provides a non-systematic review of the theory and the practice of forecasting. We provide an overview of a wide range of theoretical, state-of-the-art models, methods, principles, and approaches to prepare, produce, organise, and evaluate forecasts. We then demonstrate how such theoretical concepts are applied in a variety of real-life contexts. We do not claim that this review is an exhaustive list of methods and applications. However, we wish that our encyclopedic presentation will offer a point of reference for the rich work that has been undertaken over the last decades, with some key insights for the future of forecasting theory and practice. Given its encyclopedic nature, the intended mode of reading is non-linear. We offer cross-references to allow the readers to navigate through the various topics. We complement the theoretical concepts and applications covered by large lists of free or open-source software implementations and publicly-available databases. © 2020, CC BY.

Recently, all-inorganic perovskites CsPbX3 (X= Cl, Br and I) quantum dots (QDs) have drawn great attentions because of their PL spectra tunable over the whole visible spectral region (400-700 nm) and adjustable bandgap, which revealed a promising potential on the field of photoelectronic devices, such as solar cells, LEDs and sensors. In this paper, CsPbX3 QDs and hybrid QDs, CsPbClxBr3-x and CsPbBrxI3-x were synthesized via one-step and two-step methods comparably. The optical bandgaps of CsPbCl3, CsPbBr3, and CsPbI3, were calculated as 3.08, 2.36, and 1.73eV, respectively, based on the Tauc's equation and UV absorption spectra. Ionic displacement and phase transformation occurred during the mixing process were found based on the monitoring of PL spectra and HRTEM characterization. The long-term stability, dried, high quality and two-dimensional hybrid CsPbBrxI3-x QDs powders could be achieved via the two-step method. Polar solution inductions were used to wash and purify the CsPbX3 QDs, which help obtain of various compositions and well crystallize all-inorganic perovskites QDs powders.

This work purpose is to study the influence of concrete buried structures in grounding systems. Comparison of soil characteristics between dry and rainy seasons and soil electrical behavior was carried out. Simulations in finite element method was performed for tree layer stratified soil and the electrostatic equipotential surfaces were mapped into the region of interest.

In this paper a Hardware Architecture for computing the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is presented which is addressed to solve the self-localization problem of autonomous mobile robots. In this case, the overall EKF algorithm has been implemented in hardware over an Altera Cyclone IV FPGA with a Nios II processor, in which the latter is used only for interfacing and communication tasks. The achieved implementation has been adapted and applied to the mobile platform Pioneer 3AT (P3AT) for validation task. The prediction stage of the EKF algorithm was based on a dead-reckoning system model and the estimation stage on a measurement system which uses a sensor of Laser Range Finder (LRF). The proposed architecture has been designed considering a Unified Hardware Module approach using floating-point arithmetic operators, allowing the operations to be computed with large precision and dynamic range. Furthermore, several metrics have been used to evaluate the system performance, measuring both FPGA resources consumption, power consumption and execution time. Finally, the suitability of reconfigurable devices for such kind of applications has been verified and also discussed. © 2015 IEEE.
