With the integration of multiaxis layered manufacturing and material removal (machining) processes, a hybrid system has more capability and flexibility to build complicated geometry with a single setup. Process planning to integrate the two different processes is a key issue. In this paper, an algorithm of adaptive slicing for a five-axis Laser Aided Manufacturing Process (LAMP) is summarized that can generate uniform and non-uniform thickness slices. A method to build a non-uniform (thickness) layer that utilizes two processes is presented, and an overall algorithm for integration is described. The newly developed algorithm implemented in the process planning helps the hybrid system build parts more efficiently.

In this paper, a cardinality compensation method based on Information-weighted Consensus Filter(ICF) using data clustering is proposed in order to accurately estimate the cardinality of the Cardinalized Probability Hypothesis Density(CPHD) filter. Although the joint propagation of the intensity and the cardinality distribution in the CPHD filter process allows for more reliable estimation of the cardinality(target number) than the PHD filter, tracking loss may occur when noise and clutter are high in the measurements in a practical situation. For that reason, the cardinality compensation process is included in the CPHD filter, which is based on information fusion step using estimated cardinality obtained from the CPHD filter and measured cardinality obtained through data clustering. Here, the ICF is used for information fusion. To verify the performance of the proposed method, simulations were carried out and it was confirmed that the tracking performance of the multi-target was improved because the cardinality was estimated more accurately as compared to the existing techniques.

The predicted dramatic increase in demand for IT workers in the next decade suggests an opportunity for IT educators to establish plans to ramp up to meet these needs. The purpose of this paper is to help educators understand factors that are important to IT workers and that can be influenced by the educational process. The work reported here is part of an NSF grant that explored current IT worker experiences and motivations. Data for the study was collected using a forty-four-item questionnaire sent to currently employed IT workers in the Boston area. Stepwise multiple linear regression was used to relate certain outcome variables to attributes and opinions of the respondents as represented by question item responses. Relationships have been discovered that will help educators craft academic programs and identify potentially successful students in IT. For example, the analysis indicates questionnaire items associated with the challenge presented by an IT profession and family educational backgrounds in technical areas are important outcome predictors, while gender and age are less important.
