JONES, RAMr. Robert A. Jones is a Naval Architect in the Deck Systems Branch of the Naval Ship Engineering Center
Hyattsville Md. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois. Upon joining NAVSEC in 1965 he completed the Hull Systems and Weapons Support Division Junior Engineer Training Program and was then assigned to his present position which includes design and system engineering for submersible vehicle mechanical system equipment jettisoning system underwater work tools and submersible vehicle certification. He is a Registered Engineer in Training in the State of Illinois. He is a member of the Marine Technology Society and the Association of Senior Engineers of the Naval Ship Systems Command.

Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and in 1950 he returned for three years postgraduate training following which in 1952 he was awarded a Professional Engineering Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. In 1968 he completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard. As an Engineering Duty Officer
he has served in various Naval commands. Following the war he was assigned as Planning and Estimating Hull Assistant at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and as Assistant Design Superintendent at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He has had two tours of duty at the Naval Ship Systems Command formerly the Bureau of Ships. Since March 1969 he has been assigned to duty as Commander Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Portsmouth N. H.

Class of 1940 and has a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Captain Cochrane served in a number of key gunnery and torpedo billets afloat and ashore during and after World War II. In recent years he has been Director of the TARTAR Missile Program in the Bureau of Naval Weapons commander USS CAVALIER (APA-37) served in the Office of DCNO (Fleet Operations and Readiness) and commanded Amphibious Squadron 7 prior to assuming his present billet. He is now Director of the Plans and Programs Division in the Surface Warfare Systems Directorate of NAVORD.
