This study aims to give an accurate estimate of the effective thermal-mechanical properties of a coreless circuit substrate for advanced IC packages. To achieve the goal, a subdomain-based effective method is proposed, incorporating a sub-domain three-dimensional (3D) copper trace mapping and modeling (TMM) method, a volume-averaging rule of mixture (ROM) technique and finite element modeling. Furthermore, the proposed effective method is combined with an FEA-based process simulation framework to investigate the process-induced warpage of a flip-chip chip scale package during fabrication. At last, parametric analysis is performed to identify the crucial factors influencing the process-induced warpage of the package. © 2023 Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging.

This paper proposes an algorithm for trajectory planning based on the motion of Brownian particles. One of the most popular approaches in path planning is to use the artificial potential fields method which, due to its easiness in implementation, might attract the robot towards a local minimum configuration, thus preventing it from reaching the desired final destination. Although there are different approaches to deal with this drawback, their modeling lacks the simplicity of the potential fields, adding thus an extra complexity to the problem. The solution proposed here combines the strengths of both approaches: it is easy to analyze and to implement, just like in the potentials method, while it preserves the robustness against local minima of more complex particle swarm models. An approximate analysis for the deterministic version of the selected model was performed and it was observed, via simulations, that the results obtained after this simplification were consistent with the behavior of the stochastic system. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper we develop a complete classification scheme for planar, spherical and spatial four-bar linkages. The goal of this classification is to note all of the subtleties of motion that an arbitrary set of four link lengths can define. A classification should exist only between the mechanisms that exhibit similar ranges of motion at both the input and output. In the planar case, three parameters being identified as either positive, negative, or zero are necessary to completely characterize all possible ranges of motion. In the spherical and spatial cases, four parameters being identified as positive, negative or zero are needed. The result is 27 classifications of planar mechanisms and 81 for spherical and spatial RCCC mechanisms. © 1998 by ASME.

Cardinality compensation method based on information-weighted consensus filter using data clustering for multi-target tracking

In this paper, a cardinality compensation method based on Information-weighted Consensus Filter(ICF) using data clustering is proposed in order to accurately estimate the cardinality of the Cardinalized Probability Hypothesis Density(CPHD) filter. Although the joint propagation of the intensity and the cardinality distribution in the CPHD filter process allows for more reliable estimation of the cardinality(target number) than the PHD filter, tracking loss may occur when noise and clutter are high in the measurements in a practical situation. For that reason, the cardinality compensation process is included in the CPHD filter, which is based on information fusion step using estimated cardinality obtained from the CPHD filter and measured cardinality obtained through data clustering. Here, the ICF is used for information fusion. To verify the performance of the proposed method, simulations were carried out and it was confirmed that the tracking performance of the multi-target was improved because the cardinality was estimated more accurately as compared to the existing techniques.

This paper provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of the performance of four bioinspired algorithms (Differential Evolution, Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm, Moth-flame Optimization, and Particle Swarm Optimization) in designing a flatness-based controller for a ball and beam system simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. The assessment involves the tuning of feedback gains utilizing four distinct fitness functions: Integral Square Error, Integral Absolute Error, Integral Time Absolute Error, and an ad-hoc cost function. Hypothesis tests are employed to choose the optimal controllers from each combination for every bioinspired algorithm and a fitness function. Subsequently, a control performance analysis of these controllers for the ball and beam system is conducted, focusing on critical parameters such as overshoot, settling time, and steady-state error. This analysis demonstrates that all the controllers achieve a zero steady-state error. Noteworthy is the flatness-based controller tuned with the bioinspired Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm and utilizing the Integral Time Absolute Error fitness function, which stands out for achieving the fastest response with the lowest overshoot. This particular controller emerges as the most recommended choice for the specified application. © 2024 IEEE.

The predicted dramatic increase in demand for IT workers in the next decade suggests an opportunity for IT educators to establish plans to ramp up to meet these needs. The purpose of this paper is to help educators understand factors that are important to IT workers and that can be influenced by the educational process. The work reported here is part of an NSF grant that explored current IT worker experiences and motivations. Data for the study was collected using a forty-four-item questionnaire sent to currently employed IT workers in the Boston area. Stepwise multiple linear regression was used to relate certain outcome variables to attributes and opinions of the respondents as represented by question item responses. Relationships have been discovered that will help educators craft academic programs and identify potentially successful students in IT. For example, the analysis indicates questionnaire items associated with the challenge presented by an IT profession and family educational backgrounds in technical areas are important outcome predictors, while gender and age are less important.

Finite Capacity Scheduling of Make-Pack Production: Case Study of Adhesive Factory

This paper developed a Finite Capacity Scheduling (FCS) system for make-pack production based on a real case of an adhesive factory. The FCS determines production quantity of each machine to conform with resource capacities and due date of customer orders while minimizes related total cost. The total cost includes total production, inventory, and cleaning cost. A Mixed Integer Linear programming (MILP) model is formulated and solved by LINGO software. The computational time is very long since the model has a lot of integer variables. Thus, the model is solved for a reasonable time and the best but not optimal solution is reported with the lower bound. This paper tries fixed horizon and rolling horizon scheduling methods. The fixed horizon plans for an entire horizon of 30 days. The rolling horizon plans for a sub-horizon of 10, 15, and 17 days. An overlapping of sub-horizons is applied to reduce end-of-horizon effect. Three scenarios (high, normal, and low) of demands are considered. The fixed horizon method is applied first to all scenarios of demand. If the best solution is far away from the lower bound, the rolling horizon method is applied. The results indicated that the rolling horizon method may significantly reduce the total cost with the same computational time. Moreover, the rolling horizon method is more applicable for a dynamic situation where customers frequently change orders. The proposed MILP model can generate reasonable solutions and they are useful for scheduling decision of make- pack production.

In this study, we proposed the collision observer for real-time detection of collisions between service robot and unknown obstacle. In case of a mobile equipped extra manipulator such as a service robot the safety of the system in service field is very important because a collision between the manipulator and a person may damages against the one. Therefore it is required to detect the collision against the unknown obstacle and to make them safe. This paper proposes current based method to detect unexpected collision without using extra sensor such as the force/torque(F/T), tactile sensor or the visual sensor. Instead of these sensors, the collision is detected by the observer for collision. To detect the collision of the manipulator without force/torque sensor, two parameters are only required for calculation of collision observer. One is current value, the other is control input value. Because the current from the servo amplifier is generated to follow the controller command input, the current can be used for detecting the collision. After detecting the collision of robot manipulator, we can control the robot to make them safe or reduce damage. The proposed collision detection method is implemented in a light weight robot manipulator. It is confirmed that the proposed method is valid by experimental results. © 2009 SICE.

Numerical simulation of the non-premixed combustion of methane air mixture in a gas turbine can- type swirl combustor is conducted. The study objective is to examine the effect of different design and operational parameters on the combustor performance and its emissions. The investigated parameters are the primary air flow rate, the swirl ratio between the secondary and the primary air and the fuel to the primary air swirl ratio. Several indicators are used to evaluate the combustion performance and emissions which include average exit temperature of the chamber, pattern factor, NOx and CO emission indices, combustion efficiency and the pressure drop. The results of the study demonstrate the importance of good tuning of the design and operating parameters for better performance and reduced emissions. © 2021 IEEE.

The manufacturing industry is undergoing a major transformation based on the emerging industry 4.0 technologies, such as cloud computing, big data, internet of things and cyber-physical systems. These novelty technologies aim at providing central management for the user’s flexible manufacturing requirements and information. Also, the advent of these technologies has transformed the process planning and became crucial for the building of knowledge-based process planning environments. However, current praxis cannot deal with all semantic issues within this new paradigm, as requirements must be clear, consistent, measurable, stand-alone, testable, unambiguous, unique and verifiable. In this context, multicriteria decision analysis models have gained focus of the scientific and industrial communities as a support tool for the decision-making process in the product development and advanced manufacturing as these processes excel in environments with numerous and conflicting alternatives, providing the optimal alternative. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to highlight the current issues and research tendencies regarding ontology-based interoperability systems, multicriteria decision analysis and their integration. To achieve this goal, it will be applied a literature review on the targeted technologies, discussing the current tendencies of the field and the main issues regarding their implementation and integration. Finally, the paper points themes for further research and indicates viable concepts that can compose a solution for the gaps in a systematic manner. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
