The reaction-diffusion neural network is often described by semilinear diffusion partial differential equation (PDE). This article focuses on the asymptotical synchronization and synchronization for coupled reaction-diffusion neural networks with mixed delays (that is, discrete and infinite distributed delays) and Dirichlet boundary condition. First, using the Lyapunov–Krasoviskii functional scheme, the sufficient condition is obtained for the asymptotical synchronization of coupled semilinear diffusion PDEs with mixed time-delays and this condition is represented by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which is easy to be solved. Then the robust synchronization is considered in temporal-spatial domain for the coupled semilinear diffusion PDEs with mixed delays and external disturbances. In terms of the technique of completing squares, the sufficient condition is obtained for the robust synchronization. Finally, a numerical example of coupled semilinear diffusion PDEs with mixed time-delays is given to illustrate the correctness of the obtained results. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper, a passivity-based synchronization method is proposed for a new hyperchaotic Lorenz system based on Lyapunov stability theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. On the basis of the property of the passive system, the passive controller is designed and synchronization of two identical new hyperchaotic Lorenz systems with different initial conditions is realized. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed chaos control and synchronization schemes.

This paper presents a systematic and comprehensive modeling approach for the derivation of a nonlinear dynamic model of a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) quadrotor. The model incorporates a couple of significant aerodynamic effects impacting on the quadrotor flight in different regimes. The controller is accordingly designed to accommodate both specific and uncertain dynamics of the quadrotor. The control laws of linear quadratic regulator (LQR) coupled with sliding mode control (SMC) are applied to the controller design so as to perform the optimal and robust control of the vehicle. The experimental results demonstrate the designed control algorithms are capable of delivering an remarkable performance on tracking of the reference input signals.

In this paper, detailed optical of the solar parabolic dish concentrator is presented. The system has diameter D = 2,800 mm and focal length f = 1,400 mm. The efficient conversion of solar radiation in heat at these temperature levels requires a use of concentrating solar collectors. In this paper, detailed optical design of the solar parabolic dish concentrator is presented. The parabolic dish of the solar system consists from 12 curvilinear trapezoidal reflective petals. This paper presents optical simulations of the parabolic solar concentrator unit using the ray-tracing software TracePro. The total flux on receiver and the distribution of irradiance for absorbed flux on center and periphery receiver are given. The total flux at the focal region is 4,031.3 W. The goal of this paper is to present optical design of a low-tech solar concentrator, that can be used as a potentially low-cost tool for laboratory-scale research on the medium-temperature thermal processes, cooling, industrial processes, solar cooking and polygeneration systems, etc.

Dynamic performance evaluation that takes into account the inertial properties is an important issue for both the behavior analysis and dimensional synthesis of parallel kinematic manipulators (PKMs). Firstly, by virtue of the principle of virtual work, the complete inverse dynamic model of a 3-prismatic-universal-universal (PUU) parallel manipulator is formulated, which does not neglect the inertial and gravitational properties of the struts. The condition number of generalized inertia matrix can evaluate the mapping from joint accelerations to realizable joint torques. This paper utilizes the condition number of generalized inertia matrix as the index to evaluate the dynamic dexterity property of a 3-PUU PKM which possesses three translational degrees of freedom. For a given set of geometrical and inertia parameters, numerical simulations indicate that the global dynamic dexterity performance of this type of 3-PUU PKM is consistent with the local dynamic dexterity on a specific z--plane, it has the best dynamic dexterity at the center of task workspace and decreases from the center to the edge of task workspace.

In heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, typically two variables (air temperature and air humidity) have to be controlled via several (at least two) actuators. Some of the components show nonlinear behaviour. Therefore, HVAC systems belong to the class of nonlinear multi-input-multi-output systems. A well suited approach to control this class of systems is model predictive control, since the time constants of HVAC systems are high (typically in the range of tens or hundreds of seconds) offering enough time to perform the required online optimization. In order to apply linear predictive control methods, while taking into account the nonlinearities of the plant, a modeling concept based on a physical plant model and a neuro-fuzzy model is proposed. The neuro-fuzzy model is obtained via the so called local linear model tree (LoLiMoT) algorithm. The generation of a linear state space representation from the neuro-fuzzy model is demonstrated. This linear state space model can then be used in a predicitive control scheme, where the linear model is updated each sampling instant from the neuro-fuzzy model. This technique allows the application of standard linear predictive control while taking into account the nonlinearities of the plant. Simulation and measurement results obtained from an industrial test plant are presented. © IFAC.

One approach based on AC20-128A is presented in order to assess the risk caused by uncontained engine rotor failure (UERF). In this approach, the risk assessment procedure includes hazard identification and hazard quantification. In the step of hazard identification, the catastrophic functional hazards, derived from the functional hazard analysis (FHA) results for the airplane, are used as the top events to construct the fault trees. The minimal cut sets (MSCs) of the fault trees are the hazards to be identified exactly. In the step of hazard quantification, the probability of one hazard triggered by some uncontained debris is evaluated. After the probabilities of all the identified hazards are quantified, the risk assessment of the airplane is completed. And the assessment result is compared with the design specifications to show compliance with the safety design. A small example is introduced to illustrate the rationality and accuracy of the aforementioned method. © 2014 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

This paper discusses a new path tracking controller strategy for autonomous vehicle. Preliminary works done by researchers shows that most of the controller performs well in a straight path and normal curve. However, the problem arises in tight curve or discontinuous path. Therefore, this work aims to reduce the gap on the tight corner problem. The controller is designed based on the dynamic curvature estimation to predict the path condition and modify the wheel speed and steering wheel angle accordingly. In this technique, the curvature estimation algorithm is presented as a required input to the controller. The curvature estimation allows the vehicle to react based on the curvature profile and threshold region detection. The comparison is made based on three different path types. The experimental results on the autonomous prototype platform are discussed to show the effectiveness of the controller. © 2014 IEEE.

Frequency synthesizer plays an important role in frequency hopping communication system. In this paper, we derivate the conditions for a system to become the chaotic based on the phase model of phase-locked synthesizer. We found that the system parameter changing during the frequency switching is able to make the system to be chaotic. Based on the Cao's method [5], we find that the fractal dimension of the transient signals should be equal to or less than 4, which also provides the maximal positive Lyapunov exponent. In addition, the unique double-ring attractor of them is also reproduced through the phase reconstruction, which also implies that the frequency switching will result in a chaotic for Frequency-Hopping Communication system. © 2014 IEEE.
