This paper introduces a novel approach to combating the spread of Dengue and Chikungunya, two prevalent arboviruses in tropical regions, especially in Brazil. The research presents a low-cost differential topology robot designed as an educational tool to raise awareness about mosquito breeding grounds among students and teachers in public schools across the Federal District, Brazil. Developed at the University of Brasilia, the robot is deployed in collaboration with the Federal District Health Department to support prevention campaigns in schools. The paper evaluates the effectiveness of this innovative tool in enhancing community engagement and improving health outcomes. The findings suggest that integrating robotics into health education can significantly elevate awareness and strengthen prevention strategies against arboviral diseases. ©2024 IEEE.

Electronic interactions of the Group 2A elements with magnesium have been studied through the dilute solid solutions in binary Mg-Ca,Mg-Sr and Mg-Ba *** investigation incorporated the difference in the‘Work Function'(ΔWF)measured via Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy(KPFM),as a property directly affected by interatomic bond types,*** electronic structure,nanoindentation measurements,and Stacking Fault Energy values reported in the *** was shown that the nano-hardness of the solid-solutionα-Mg phase changed in the order of Mg-Ca>Mg-Sr>***,it was shown,by also considering the nano-hardness levels,that SFE of a solid-solution is closely correlated with its‘Work Function'***-hardness measurements on the eutectics andΔWF difference between eutectic phases enabled an assessment of the relative bond strength and the pertinent electronic structures of the eutectics in the three *** withΔWF and at least qualitative verification of those computed SFE values with some experimental measurement techniques were considered important as those computational methods are based on zero Kelvin degree,relatively simple atomic models and a number of *** asserted by this investigation,if the results of measurement techniques can be qualitatively correlated with those of the computational methods,it can be possible to evaluate the electronic structures in alloys,starting from binary systems,going to ternary and then multi-elemental *** investigation has shown that such a qualitative correlation is *** all,the SFE values are not treated as absolute values but rather become essential in comparative investigations when assessing the influences of alloying elements at a fundamental level,that is,free electron density *** study indicated that the principles of‘electronic metallurgy'in developing multi-elemental alloy systems can be followed via practical experimental methods,i.e.ΔWF measurements using KPF

Friction has been identified as one of the primary contributors to the problems associated with motion control system accuracy. Several approaches have been offered to identify friction parameters, such as direct measurement, trial-and-error, and so on. However, obtaining the proper and exact values for friction model parameters is a challenging task. The aforementioned methods have large time consumption and likely yield experimental errors. In this paper, a Genetic Algorithm is used to identify friction model parameters for a servomotor system, namely, the Quanser QUBE-Servo 2. Both simulation and experiment findings demonstrate that a successful implementation of friction parameter identification can be done in a short amount of time while maintaining high accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Separation of microalgae from bacterial contaminants using spiral microchannel in the presence of a chemoattractant

Cell separation using microfluidics has become an effective method to isolate biological contaminants from bodily fluids and cell cultures,such as isolating bacteria contaminants from microalgae cultures and isolating bacteria contaminants from white blood *** this study,bacterial cells were used as a model contaminant in microalgae culture in a passive microfluidics device,which relies on hydrodynamic forces to demonstrate the separation of microalgae from bacteria contaminants in U and W-shaped cross-section spiral microchannel fabricated by defocusing CO_(2) laser *** a flow rate of 0.7 ml/min in the presence of glycine as bacteria chemoattractant,the spiral microfluidics devices with U and W-shaped cross-sections were able to isolate microalgae(Desmodesmus sp.)from bacteria(***)with a high separation efficiency of 92%and 96%*** the same flow rate,in the absence of glycine,the separation efficiency of microalgae for U-and W-shaped cross-sections was 91%and 96%,*** was found that the spiral microchannel device with a W-shaped cross-section with a barrier in the center of the channel showed significantly higher separation *** microchannel chips with U-or W-shaped cross-sections were easy to fabricate and exhibited high *** these advantages,these devices could be widely applicable to other cell separation applications,such as separating circulating tumor cells from blood.

This study focus on passive and active learning within the context of robotics education on public high schools. By synthesizing research findings and practical insights, this paper offers valuable recommendations for educators aiming to optimize the delivery of robotics education in public high schools, addressing the significance of the utilization of appropriate resources and technologies to support effective instruction. We implemented two distinct teaching methodologies to compare and study students' reactions and learning outcomes: Group A experienced a passive methodology, while Group B engaged with an active methodology. We conducted a survey and the results show that the majority of the students prefer the active approach used in classes.

The implementation of a patient monitoring system and infusion automation which aims to ensure regular and periodic monitoring of inpatient conditions are applied in this system. This embedded system is applied in hospitals and addresses the uneven distribution of healthcare workers in Indonesia, particularly in remote areas. Currently, manual checks by nurses can lead to errors and reduced patient comfort. The improvement supervision is developed in this work. The system monitored body temperature, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, heart rate, and automated infusions. All the embedded systems are connected to Internet of Things (IoT) and a real-time database accessible through an application and web. This system allows doctors and hospital authorities to make decisions based on patient condition history. The testing phase of the system shows four data acquisition devices (temperature, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and heart rate), an ESP 32, and Firebase as a database, have ability to capture and send real-time data every five seconds and can be accessed by doctors, patients, and hospital authorities. © 2024 IEEE.

Advances in information and communication technologies have significantly transformed engineering education. Virtual laboratories are increasingly adopted to enhance student interaction with control system simulations. The improved visualization and interaction capabilities of modern computers offer a more organic way to teach theoretical foundations. This paper describes the implementation of a methodology for teaching control theory that until now was entirely online in a face-to-face environment at the University of the Federal District in Brasilia, Brazil. This methodology utilizes virtual laboratories with CoppeliaSim, MATLAB, and the EVA mobile robot to teach control theory focused on single-input, single-output (SISO) systems for mobile robot tracking and obstacle avoidance applications. The results of the face-to-face implementation are compared to those of the fully online methodology, revealing that in-person teaching significantly enhances the quality of instruction. ©2024 IEEE.

Technological advancements are increasingly evident across various sectors, including automobiles, industry, and healthcare. In precision agriculture, significant progress has been made, with AgroTICs and Smart Agriculture gaining substantial traction in the market. However, a gap remains between cutting-edge technology and family farming, presenting a challenge from both social and applied research perspectives. However, there is still a gap between cutting-edge technology and family farming, which creates a challenge from a social and applied research point of view. In this context, this paper proposes a monitoring model based on Fuzzy Logic and sensor automation applied to estimate the health of a corn crop. The proposed Fuzzy inference system involves calculating an indicator of nutrients as well as the average color and area of corn plants. The nutrient indicator is automatically computed by an ESP32 microcontroller using sensor readings, while the average color and area inputs are manually entered via a mobile application. Additionally, the Fuzzy inference is integrated into the ESP32. The model underwent experimental validation on the health of the plantation, and the results were evaluated in four areas: one was designated for testing, and three were for validation. The model achieved an accuracy of 97.5% in Scenario 3, categorized as 'Very Favorable', and an accuracy of 65% in Scenarios 2 and 4, categorized as 'Unfavorable'. The implications of this research contribute to the advancement of AgroTICs among small producers, with the potential to enhance and automate the monitoring of their harvest production. © 2024 IEEE.

The increasing amount of waste in a limited space creates a problematic scenario, particularly in urban areas. Thus, methods of diverting waste wherever possible have become a trend, such as the utilization of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) for alternative energy. In this study, residual wastes were characterized and analyzed for the energy potential it could provide for Baguio City. The majority of the waste composition comprises plastics (35.63%) and paper (44.83%). The association of heating value to moisture was found to have a similar trend with other related studies. Finally, the performance parameters of the produced RDF patterned from Baguio City WACS were measured, where the HV (12.673 MJ/kg), moisture (2.414%), ash (4.757%), and sulfur (0.215%), satisfy the condition of RDF 3 based on ASTM standards. The conducted study may be used as a pilot test for the waste-to-energy scheme, especially since Baguio city has no established WtE system in place to date. © 2024 The Authors.

The accelerated adoption of photovoltaic (PV) systems for renewable power generation in the Philippines will yield a tremendous amount of PV waste. However, the country lacks a comprehensive framework for understanding PV module waste volume growth and optimally siting Treatment, Storage, and Disposal (TSD) facilities for PV waste management based on minimum siting factor. The study aims to develop a regional framework that utilizes a geographic information system (GIS)-based approach to find the potential sites and optimal locations of TSD facilities in Laguna, Philippines, based on the estimated PV module waste growth of solar energy systems with service contracts and minimum siting criteria under Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order 2013-22. By 2060, the projected amount of PV module waste in Laguna province will be around 162,230 metric tons based on the waste projection results. The suitable sites cover around 19,720.5 hectares or 11.21% of the total land area of Laguna, which were determined by various siting factors that encompass social, economic, and environmental factors and obtained using binary suitability analysis and vector overlay analysis. The optimal locations of the two TSD facilities were identified using strategic positioning based on hotspot analysis, clustering algorithm, and proximity analysis. Consequently, the distance and GHG emissions of the two optimal locations were calculated. Indeed, the approach will serve as a guide for policymakers and other stakeholders in understanding PV module waste growth and strategically and optimally position TSD facilities on suitable sites for efficient and effective PV waste management. © Author(s) 2024.
