Amateur radio stations, which use greater radiation power than smartphones, are expected to have a high specific absorption rate (SAR). However, few studies have explored the electromagnetic wave exposure in amateur stations. In this paper, we propose mounting a reflector on a 1.2-GHz-band monopole antenna that is mounted on a transceiver-simulating metallic case. Numerical analysis was performed through the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method using a simple brain-equivalent model and a numerical model of the human body. The results demonstrated that the SAR can be reduced through the proposed method without greatly altering the antenna characteristics.

The harvesting is one of the most expensive stages during Colombian coffee production since the selectivity of ripe fruits (from the trees) is carried manually nowadays. However, the scarcity of workforce has become a new challenge for developing technologies that can be used in situations that traditional mechanized harvesters cannot be implemented. The classification of coffee fruits through the ripeness could help create selective harvesting methods from the different engineering fields (robotic, artificial vision, vibratory systems, etc.). This study describes a methodology to characterize the coffee fruit ripeness (Coffea arabica var. Castillo) using color maps obtained from digital image processing and colorimetry. Ninety-two samples were measured, and for each sample, a digital image was processed to extract the most representative color with an algorithm (RGB space), and parallel to this, the chromaticity was measured with a colorimeter (CIELab space). Both color spaces were related through linear transformations computed from the data. Results show that the ripeness classification is well defined in both color spaces; however, RGB space was divided into four ripening since the ripeness timeline was linearly represented. Through the transformations, the image data were contrasted with those measured with the colorimeter, which demonstrated that it could be converted in a colorimeter under certain specific conditions.

Significant population and economic growth, caused increasing of energy demand. Depletion of fossil fuel moreover coupled by climate change issue that caused by increasing carbon emission, become necessity to continuously encourage achieving renewable energy mix in energy primer. Large potentials of hydro renewable energy source and small utilization of it, micro-hydro and pico-hydro power plant are suitable to develop especially in country side. The research gap in the current turbine application chart is a challenge for Gravitational Water Vortex Power Plant (GWVPP) strong existence in pico-hydro power, besides conventional turbine design has been developed into it. However, development in vortex flow and basin geometry design has a robust design for the past 10 years of research. Researches have been conducted in few countries that proofed GWVPP has less capital investment and low operational and maintenance cost, however the parameter of the GWVPP still need further development since the power output efficiency still low. Since basin opening and outlet diameter are the main parameters to define basin geometry, inlet channel need to do further research. The research will improve the recent gaps; therefore, vortex turbine could be developed accordingly that would result immediate improvements for renewable energy growth in Indonesia through GWVPP.

Egg selection process can be performed by either natural or artificial way. The latter can be done by using image processing. It is segmenting the image of an egg to obtain objects contained in the image. This study is designed to identify fertile and infertile egg by using Otsu thresholding method. The importance of this study is designing model of egg detection system using image processing to obtain information of fertile and infertile egg. The results of egg testing show that algorithm and method that was used were able to distinguish the fertile and infertile eggs of domestic fowl. © 2018 IEEE.

This work presents experimental results of Rabi antenna characteristics using the coupled line microstrip *** was constructed by a modified coupled line microstrip four-port network,which is known as an add-drop *** driven AC input enters the device via an input port using the suitable frequency and coupled line microstrip ring *** multilevel system is generated by a wave-particle aspect before the two-level system is *** the resonance,the transitions of the states induce the energy called whispering gallery mode(WGM)at the circuit center,which is the squeezed *** generated electron oscillation within the WGM envelope oscillated by the frequency is known as the Rabi *** the successive filtering with continuous AC input via the selected port,the electron cloud warp speed can be generated and achieved inside the two-level *** constructed microstrip ring radius is 25 mm,and the experimental results of the Rabi antenna characteristics are in good agreement with the simulation *** obtained resonant antenna oscillation frequency is 2.103 *** electron cloud warp speed of 1.100c and time dilation of 0.006μs are obtained.

Star formation rate (SFR) is a fundamental parameter for describing galaxies and inferring their evolutionary course. H II regions yield the best measure of instantaneous SFR in galaxies, although the derived SFR can have large uncertainties depending on tracers and assumptions. We present an SFR calibration for the entire molecular gas disk of the nearby Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068, based on our new high-sensitivity ALMA 100 GHz continuum data at 55 pc (= 0′′ . 8) resolution in combination with the HST Paα line data. In this calibration, we account for the spatial variations of dust extinction, electron temperature of H II regions, AGN contamination, and diffuse ionized gas (DIG) based on publicly available multi-wavelength data. Especially, given the extended nature and the possible non-negligible contribution to the total SFR, a careful consideration of DIG is essential. With a cross-calibration between two corrected ionized gas tracers (free-free continuum and Paα), the total SFR of the NGC 1068 disk is estimated to be 3.2 ± 0.5 M☉ yr−1, one-third of the SFR without accounting for DIG (9.1 ± 1.4 M☉ yr−1). We confirmed high SFR around the southern bar-end and the corotation radius, which is consistent with the previous SFR measurements. In addition, our total SFR exceeds the total SFR based on 8 µm dust emission by a factor of 1.5. We attribute this discrepancy to the differences in the young stars at different stages of evolution traced by each tracer and their respective timescales. This study provides an example to address the various uncertainties in conventional SFR measurements and their potential to lead to significant SFR miscalculations. © 2024, CC0.

In this paper the design, analysis and implementation of improved first-order continuous adaptive sliding mode control (CASMC) based on online estimation of the lumped time-varying uncertainties for tracking control of the robot manipulators is presented. The proposed method allows to address the main drawbacks of conventional sliding mode control: the chattering phenomenon, and the requirement for a priori knowledge of the bounds of the uncertainties, and also the chattering problem associated with adaptive discontinuous sliding mode controllers, while the robustness property of the conventional sliding mode control is preserved. Furthermore, in the previously published version of the controller [1], the estimate of robot inertia matrix is needed to realize the adaptive component of the control law. In this work, the skew-symmetry property (passivity property) of robot dynamic is used to eliminate that requirement. The global stability and robustness of the proposed controller are established in the presence of time-varying uncertainties using Lyapunov's approach and fundamentals of sliding mode theory. The robustness is achieved without knowing the bound of uncertainties. The dynamic model of a two-degrees of freedom (2-DOF) rigid robot is used for simulation study and a 2-DOF flexible-link robot is used as an experimental test-bed to evaluate the performance, and robustness of the controller. Based on the simulations and experimental results, the proposed controller performs remarkably well in terms of the tracking error convergence, estimation of lumped uncertain parameter. And it is robust against un-modeled dynamics and external disturbances. © 2018 IEEE.

The ability for predicting the springback on sheet metal bending processes is identified as an important feature of the ability for predicting the final geometry of sheet metal parts. The grain size effect makes the difficult on application of traditional design method in processing. As through tool and processing design, to understand the effects of grain size effects is an important and powerful way to effectively compensate for and eliminate the springback. In this paper, 99.5% pure iron specimens were annealed at different temperature to obtain the specified grain sizes. The effects of different grain sizes on the saddle after V-bending of the thin sheet metal were investigated. The results show that at the same thickness of specimens, the grain size has no significant effect on the saddle height. However, with increasing the thickness of the specimens the saddle will also be more prominent protruding height. The concave side of bent specimen is against the compression force and its grains structure tend to a round shape, whereas the convex side is against the tensile force and its grains structure tend to a flaky shape. © 2018 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
