The demand for efficient power management solutions in electronic devices has increased significantly, especially for microcontrollers operating in low-power modes. This article presents the design and implementation of a Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM)-based buck converter for applications in 32-bit microcontrollers using 22nm CMOS technology. The methodology involves the development of a Constant On Time (COT) architecture that maintains a fixed duration for the activation of the high-side MOSFET, using a monostable multivibrator to generate the necessary timing signals. The converter's performance was simulated under various load conditions and process corners to evaluate its efficiency and output characteristics. The results show that the proposed buck converter achieves high efficiency, with peak values above 95%, while maintaining a low output ripple. Specifically, the converter exhibits an efficiency of 93.4% at a load of 1mA, with output ripple voltages as low as 2.20 mV under ideal conditions. The contributions of this work lie in the advancement of PFM converter technology for modern microcontroller applications, demonstrating the potential of 22nm CMOS processes to improve power efficiency and performance.

This paper introduces a novel approach to combating the spread of Dengue and Chikungunya, two prevalent arboviruses in tropical regions, especially in Brazil. The research presents a low-cost differential topology robot designed as an educational tool to raise awareness about mosquito breeding grounds among students and teachers in public schools across the Federal District, Brazil. Developed at the University of Brasilia, the robot is deployed in collaboration with the Federal District Health Department to support prevention campaigns in schools. The paper evaluates the effectiveness of this innovative tool in enhancing community engagement and improving health outcomes. The findings suggest that integrating robotics into health education can significantly elevate awareness and strengthen prevention strategies against arboviral diseases.

This paper deals with the challenges involved on roof building gutter maintenance robot design, from the problem statement of secure teleoperated semiautonomous navigation on confined gutter spaces, and the best selection of right mechatronics brush to remove the waste on gutter surface;Two concept design have been tested: Passive Brush with Parallel locomotion (PBP), and Active Brush Axial (ABA). The results on our development are shown, as following: secure robot lifting regulation, simulation environment, HMI to teleoperate, mechatronics design. Finally, some tests on simulations and current prototypes are shown, to validate our proposal, and the conclusion that the ABA design allows to remove until 85% gutter waste, instead of PBP design;furthermore, the ABA allows independent brush rotation velocity, instead of PBP design. © 2023 IEEE.

Researchers emphasize the importance of hardware accelerators for mathematical morphology. If there are any issues, the hardware architecture may need to be redesigned. Thus, we propose a novel, reconfigurable hardware architecture with pipeline techniques for acceleration. With the order control register, there is no need to modify the architecture even if different results are expected. Furthermore, the hardware architecture caters to specific purposes instead of requiring a purpose-built hardware design. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and construction of a low-cost combat robot named Artemis, developed for participation in the Robocore Experience 2024 competition. The project emphasizes the integration of cost-effective components and innovative methodologies to create a competitive robot. The ESP32 microcontroller was selected for its advantages in energy efficiency and connectivity, surpassing traditional platforms like Arduino. The construction process involved several phases, including planning, development, testing, correction, and performance evaluation, utilizing tools such as CAD software for design and 3D printing for fabrication. Key components included a DC motor, L298N H-bridge, and a LiPo battery, all chosen to optimize performance while adhering to budget constraints. The robot's design evolved through iterative testing and adjustments, ultimately leading to a successful competition debut. This work highlights the importance of resourcefulness and collaboration in robotics, showcasing how educational institutions can foster innovation in engineering projects.

The adoption of multi-sensor hardware units to detect different types of emergencies in complex scenarios such as Industry 4.0 and Smart Cities is a recent development trend, which have demanded research efforts to optimize the way these units are assembled, configured, and deployed. However, although their expected advantages, usual multi-sensors emergency-oriented approaches may be constrained by the tight association between physical sensor devices and the emergency detection process. Therefore, this paper proposes an innovative approach to concurrently detect multiple emergencies exploiting the concept of soft-sensor modules, which are implemented on Emergency Detection Units (EDUs) as concurrent tasks along with a high-priority emergency alerting task. The soft-sensor concept defines physical sensors as ordinary input data streams, which will be processed according to the defined algorithms by each particular soft-sensor, allowing detection decisions to be performed on the edge. In order to support the practical exploitation of this concept, a formal specification based on Petri Nets is defined, modeling the concurrent operation of the tasks within an EDU. A proof of concept is also designed based on the affordable Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller, demonstrating how the proposed approach would behave when two soft-sensors are implemented in a typical detection unit. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper introduces an experimental method to detect the motion of an electrostatic Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) resonator in aqueous media. The resonator comprises a micro cantilever beam subject to electrostatic actuation through a side electrode. A Finite Element Method (FEM) model of the resonator is developed to determine the in-plane mode shapes and their natural frequencies in order to facilitate the experimental study. The motion of the resonator lead to variations in its capacitance and induce a current. The developed experiments demonstrate that motion-induced current can be measured and analyzed to detect the motion of the resonator's higher-order modes and can be used in chemical sensing. © 2024 IEEE.

For centuries, emergencies have been a recurring situation in cities. Natural or human-induced emergency situations can cause infrastructural damages in cities, potentially resulting in injuries, death, and economic losses. In this context, the use of Internet of Things technologies can support more efficient detection of emergencies such as floods, landslides, fire, and terrorism, being possible to alert people and trigger mitigation actions on time. Therefore, this work proposes an IoT platform for the development of sensors-based emergencies detection units, comprising a hardware architecture and a Real Time Operating System based firmware. By combining the concept of Soft Sensors with the parallelism of tasks on multi-core microcontrolers, as well as taking into consideration low-cost and energy efficient demands, it is expected an improvement in the development of such units in smart cities. © 2022 IEEE.

Computer-aided diagnosis(CAD)models exploit artificial intelligence(AI)for chest X-ray(CXR)examination to identify the presence of tuberculosis(TB)and can improve the feasibility and performance of CXR for TB screening and *** the same time,CXR interpretation is a time-consuming and subjective ***,high resemblance among the radiological patterns of TB and other lung diseases can result in ***,computer-aided diagnosis(CAD)models using machine learning(ML)and deep learning(DL)can be designed for screening TB *** this motivation,this article develops a Water Strider Optimization with Deep Transfer Learning Enabled Tuberculosis Classification(WSODTL-TBC)model on Chest X-rays(CXR).The presented WSODTL-TBC model aims to detect and classify TB on CXR ***,the WSODTL-TBC model undergoes image filtering techniques to discard the noise content and U-Net-based image ***,a pre-trained residual network with a two-dimensional convolutional neural network(2D-CNN)model is applied to extract feature *** addition,the WSO algorithm with long short-term memory(LSTM)model was employed for identifying and classifying TB,where the WSO algorithm is applied as a hyperparameter optimizer of the LSTM methodology,showing the novelty of the *** performance validation of the presented WSODTL-TBC model is carried out on the benchmark dataset,and the outcomes were investigated in many *** experimental development pointed out the betterment of the WSODTL-TBC model over existing algorithms.
