Distribution of PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) particle-and gas-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)during the 2019 normal,partial and strong haze periods at a background location in southern Thailand were investigated to understand the behaviors and carcinogenic ***1 was the predominant component,during partial and strong haze periods,accounting for 45.1% and 52.9% of total suspended particulate matter,respectively,while during normal period the contribution was only 34.0%.PM_(0.1) concentrations,during the strong haze period,were approximately 2 times higher than those during the normal *** increased levels of particle-PAHs for PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) were observed during strong haze period,about 3,5 and 6 times higher than those during normal ***-PAH concentrations were 10 to 36 times higher than those of particle-PAHs for PM_(2.5).Average total Benzo[a]Pyrene Toxic Equivalency Quotients(BaP-TEQ)in PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) during haze periodswere about 2–6 times higher than in the normal *** total accumulated Incremental Lifetime Cancer Risks(ILCRs)in PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) for all the age-specific groups during the haze effected scenario were approximately 1.5 times higher than those in nonhaze scenario,indicating a higher potential carcinogenic *** observations suggest PM_(0.1),PM_(1) and PM_(2.5) were the significant sources of carcinogenic aerosols and were significantly affected by transboundary haze from peatland *** leads to an increase in the volume of smoke aerosol,exerting a significant impact on air quality in southern Thailand,as well as many other countries in lower southeast Asia.

Prognostics and health management (PHM) is an engineering discipline that aims to maintain system behaviour and function and ensure mission success, safety and effectiveness. Addressing the challenges in prognostics and health management for modern intelligent systems, especially automated driving systems, is complex due to the contextual nature of faults. This complexity necessitates a thorough understanding of spatial, and temporal conditions, and relationships within operational scenarios and life-cycle stages. This paper introduces a framework designed to automatically recognize driving scenarios in automated driving systems using graph neural networks (GNNs). The framework extracts relational data from image frames, constructing graph-based models and transforming unstructured sensory data into structured data with diverse node types and relationships. A specific graph neural network processes the graph model to reveal and detect operational conditions and relationships. The proposed framework is evaluated using the KITTI dataset, demonstrating superior performance compared to conventional feed-forward networks such as MLP, particularly in handling relational data.

Currently, permanent vascular stents are fabricated using titanium and stainless steel implants that are nondegradable and offer high stability, but they have certain disadvantages. For example, the prolonged exposition of aggressive ions in the physiological media and the existence of defects in the oxide film create conditions for corrosion to occur, thus triggering unwanted biological events and compromising the mechanical integrity of the implants. Moreover, when the implant does not need to be permanent, there is the need to submit the patient for a second surgery for implant removal. As a solution for nonpermanent implants, biodegradable magnesium alloys have been deemed a promising substitute, for example, for cardiovascular-related applications and the construction of orthopedic devices. A biodegradable magnesium alloy (Mg-2.5Zn) reinforced by zinc and eggshell was employed in this study as an environment-conscious magnesium (eco) composite (Mg-2.5Zn-xES). Disintegrated melt deposition (DMD) was used to fabricate the composite. Experimental studies were conducted to investigate the biodegradation performance of Mg-Zn alloys containing 3 and 7 wt % eggshell (ES) in simulated body fluid (SBF) at 37 °C. Different corrosion techniques were used to study the corrosion behavior of the Mg-2.5Zn-xES composites, including weight loss measurements, hydrogen evolution, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were employed to scrutinize the corroded surfaces’ morphology and composition. The outcomes indicated that Mg-2.5Zn-3ES possesses the lowest degradation activity. © 2023 American Chemical Society.

This paper applies ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm for the dual-pin flying probe circuit board inspection optimal path searching problem. First, the proposed approach creates a representation for circuit inspection path, which groups and encodes the measurement endpoints into a sequence. Moreover, the ant colony algorithm with the sequence can be used to solve the complex circuit optimal problem. The experimental results show that the best solutions of ACO are performed better than other algorithms.

As electric vehicles become increasingly important and widely used, the design of every type of electric motor has gained significant attention in both literature and industry. This study provides a detailed analysis of the number of turns in the motor windings, a critical factor in electric motor design. Through comparative analysis, it investigates how wire size and slot filling factor affect the number of windings turns per pole in Switched Reluctance Motors (SRMs). In addition, the study evaluates the effect of the number of turns analysis on motor performance during design optimization using the genetic algorithm tool in Ansys and traditional calculation methods. The optimization was performed with the wire size range between 0.45 and 0.85 mm. As a result, the optimal value with 82% efficiency was obtained with a wire size of 0.81 mm and 312 turns. The lower copper losses, ideal volume, reduced costs, and enhanced efficiency are obtained by determining the optimal number of turns. This research contributes to developing more efficient and cost-effective electric motor designs. Future research could explore various and more effective optimization techniques and current parameters to design SRM and other motors.

In basketball game, players need to learn how to take a next appropriate action by judging various situations with surrounding players through team practice. Such decision-making capabilities in individual practice with virtual reality (VR) technologies can significantly improve the efficiency of team practice. This paper proposes a VR-based basketball team practice learning system which provides VR environments similar to the actual team practice environments by arranging players in a virtual space Proto-type application for smartphones has been developed for 3D virtualization accuracy evaluation where the smartphone is used for team practice to sense the distance between the player and surrounding VR players This paper describes the evaluation results of 3D virtualization accuracy measured by the experiments. © 2021 IEEE.

Pet owners experience difficulty in understanding their pets' body language and its implications for animal welfare, given that animals cannot utilize human speech to communicate their emotions and health conditions. However, previous experiments for analyzing cat behavior have demonstrated that cats are precisely expressive. DeepCat, a deep-learning approach developed in this study, translates cats' body language signals, enabling owners to discern their feline companions' intended messages and emotional states. Our DeepCat model was trained on a dataset comprising 10,000 cat images, implementing automatic labeling to track key features, including the tail, eyes, and mouth. Presented as a Flutter application, DeepCat can function everywhere, allowing owners to easily monitor their cats and make informed decisions in situations that require caution. This paper discusses the potential benefits and limitations of DeepCat and provides suggestions for future research in this domain.

Tunable Multimodal Guided Surface Lattice Resonances in Index-Discontinuous Environments

Surface lattice resonances (SLRs) in metasurfaces are promising in applications of sub-wavelength devices, owning properties such as high quality (high-Q) factors, large local field enhancement and extensive long-range interaction. The tunable peak position and multimodal resonances of SLRs further enhance their appeal for flexible and multi-wavelength light-matter interactions. Despite these advantages, the realization of tunable multimodal SLRs often requires reconfiguring the lattices, leading to limited tunability. Furthermore, current high-Q SLR implementations necessitate a homogeneous dielectric environment, restricting potential applications such as biosensors that are typically operated in an aqueous or air cladding on a substrate. Here we present guided-SLRs (gSLRs), which are easily accessible in index-discontinuous environments while retaining the multimodal property and straightforward tunability of mode number, resonance wavelengths and mode coupling strengths. The gSLRs are achieved by coupling the scattered light from metasurface units into a slab waveguide, creating a light propagating channel in the lattice plane within an index-asymmetric environment. Tailoring the radiation pattern of individual units with guided transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes, multimodal resonances in both orthogonal and parallel coupling directions are accomplished. The mode number and resonance wavelengths can be easily controlled by adjusting the waveguide configuration, while the mode coupling strength is tuned by the vertical position of lattices in the slab. Further shift of the multimodal gSLRs from visible to near-infrared is achieved by introducing a gold backplane. The easy-to-access, flexibly tunable and multimodal gSLRs in inhomogeneous media offer a promising solution to advancing the realization of ultrathin and ultracompact nano-optical and optoelectronic devices. Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) networks require low-latency communications utilizing a broad spectrum while operating under jamming. In this sense, low complexity antenna array-based broadband jamming mitigation schemes are crucial in order to allow low latency communication and low-cost hardware. In this paper we propose low-complexity algorithms for signal recovery in broadband processing scenario applied to V2X. Numerical simulation of a jamming scenario demonstrate the proposed algorithm achieving the same performance in terms of signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) as the state-of-the-art while taking signiflcantly less time to compute.

We present a high-accuracy 3D facial reconstruction system with the following features: real-time 3D facial reconstruction using exposure synchronization multi-camera, feature alignment to quantify facial differences, a software system based on a naked eye 3D display, and medical records for a 3D face database. The proposed system is novel and practical, and the algorithm and the hardware/software architecture improve the current non-quantitative communication status in medical aesthetics. The system achieves preoperative expectations, real-time recording and feedback during surgery, and postoperative tracking analysis, thus making doctor-patient communication more efficient. The facial data database records personal and quantitative beauty data and its changes, providing accurate medical and aesthetic treatment analysis for individuals. In addition, the collected data of different genders, ages, injection sites, and dosages contribute to the development of more accurate medical materials. With artificial intelligence and cloud architecture, we provide reliable data for medical aesthetics customers, helping them understand their medical aesthetic needs. Doctors also provide stable medical care quality to consumers through cloud data, and medical aesthetic consultants do not need to exaggerate medical effects excessively. They can inform customers of specific differences before and after surgery through precise data and provide visual communication and customer expansion to improve consultation conversion rates.
