Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is widely reported to be an effective treatment against recurrent Clostridioides difficile infections. Recent clinical studies support the therapeutic use of FMT for several other pathologies including inflammatory bowel disease, several types of cancer, and other functional or metabolic disorders. Initial guidelines are now available to overcome some of the technical and logistical issues for establishing a non-standardized treatment into clinical practice with proper safety and governance. To aid the improvement of guidance and standardization requirements for FMT, the International Alliance for Biological Standardization (IABS) and the BIOASTER Microbiology Technology Institute hosted a joint online workshop in May of 2021. The goal of the webinar was to provide a multi-disciplinary perspective of the ongoing efforts to develop FMT guidelines including technical, regulatory, and standardization requirements. Recognized experts gave insights into state-of-the art approaches and standards developed by international organizations and institutions.

Reinforcement-learning-based parallel genetic algorithm for the multi-objective hot-rolling scheduling problem of wide-thick slab

Hot rolling is the core process of steel production, and its scheduling problem is the key to determining the rolling rhythm. Compared with traditional hot-rolling scheduling, hot-rolling scheduling optimisation of wide-thick slabs needs to consider the characteristics of cross rolling and the influence of the reheating furnace, which significantly increase the difficulty of problem-solving. In this paper, the characteristics of cross rolling and the influence of the reheating furnace are analysed, and the hot-rolling scheduling problem of the wide-thick slab (WTS-HRSP) is mapped to a multi-objective asymmetric vehicle routing problem (MAVRP) model. Combined with the multi-objective characteristics of MAVRP, a reinforcement-learning-based parallel genetic algorithm (RPGA) was designed, which implements parallel computation of multiple populations based on the master-slave island model, designs three priority rules to initialise populations, and optimises the parameters of the genetic operation using Q-Learning. Based on the rolling data of the wide-thick slab hot-rolling mill of a Chinese iron and steel group, experiments were conducted to compare RPGA with five advanced multi-objective optimisation algorithms, and the results showed that RPGA had better convergence and stability and was more suitable for the WTS-HRSP. The findings can help optimise hot-rolling scheduling. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) is the most commonly used digital transmission technique for satellite telemetry link. FPGA implementation of BPSK demodulator for satellite telemetry link using model based programming is proposed in this paper. In order to evaluate the performance of proposed system, BPSK modulation scheme implemented on one FPGA board is fed as input to another FPGA board with BPSK demodulation scheme. Details about achieving frame synchronization in the demodulator board are reported and three approaches are proposed to reduce the Bit Error Rate (BER) of the system designed, which inturn enhances the frame retrieval accuracy. The performance evaluation is carried out using four combinations of data rate and carrier frequency, with the most commonly used two encoding schemes in satellites and ground station i.e., NRZ-L and NRZ-S. Zynq 7000 FPGA based ZED board is employed for the proposed work.

A truly personalized cancer therapy demands the availability of models, of which tumor dynamics model is imperative. This paper presents a feasibility study of using a tumor growth model for lung cancer treatment planning. Recent developments in radiation therapy are outlined in this work, including target tumor based delivery of limited but highly precise treatment doses during stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). Based on our prior work, we propose a methodology for quality improvement in treatment management of lung cancer, including the lung tumor motion. The paper presents the tumor behavior in various therapy scenarios by simulating different time-dose schemes for drug administration. The results indicate that the model is adequate and can be further used into the feedback scheme for treatment updates.

Estimating Object Shape and Movement Using Local Occupancy Grid Maps ⁎

Estimating motion and shape of surrounding objects reliably and accurately is a fundamental challenge in the study of interactions between cooperative traffic participants. This paper proposes a new approach that utilizes free space information obtained from a LiDAR sensor and object local grid maps in order to simultaneously estimate the shape and movement state of objects with arbitrary shape. We evaluated our approach in several simulated scenarios and found that the movement and shape estimation results are very close to the ground truth. Finally, we did a qualitative evaluation on real data extracted from the KITTI benchmark.

The paper discusses fuzzy comparison matrices, consistency check, weight prioritization methods and weight evaluation methods in fuzzy group analytic hierarchy process. There are various methods of weight prioritization, however, they are not critically evaluated. In the paper, two measures are introduced for the evaluation of the group weights. Then, a new method is proposed to improve the process of deriving weights and use it in an application compared to another common three methods. Our results show that the new method is a good method for deriving weights of indexes.

Water demand prediction is the key link for the effective operation of urban intelligent water supply system. Since the non-linearity and complex variability of water consumption, it is difficult for traditional water demand prediction models to guarantee high accuracy for a long period. Different holiday types and even tiny changes in temperatures can affect urban water demand seriously. This paper proposes a Stacking-based hybrid model which integrates multi-correction mechanisms to address these problems. A better stacking model is proposed to minimize the generalization error. The stability and reliability of predictions are improved through the design of multi-correction mechanisms such as high temperature weather compensation feature, holiday-type correction model and water quantity fluctuation correction model. Comparing different models before and after stacking also before and after correcting, the prediction accuracy of the proposed hybrid model is much higher and the predictions are more stable and reliable.

Real-time and accurate water supply forecast is crucial for water supply control. However, most existing methods are likely affected by factors such as weather and holidays, which lead to a decline in the reliability of water supply *** this paper, we address a generic artificial neural network, Initialized Attention Residual Network(IARN), to tackle the time series prediction problem in water supply domain. Specifically, instead of continuing to use the recurrent neural network(RNN)in time-series tasks, we try to build a convolution neural network(CNN) to recede the disturb from other factors and get a more credible results. Experiments show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on several datasets in terms of accuracy,robustness and generalization ability. Background: Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, and affects people regardless of country, age group, or sex. Using the most recent evidentiary and analytical framework from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD), we produced location-specific, age-specific, and sex-specific estimates of diabetes prevalence and burden from 1990 to 2021, the proportion of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in 2021, the proportion of the type 2 diabetes burden attributable to selected risk factors, and projections of diabetes prevalence through 2050. Methods: Estimates of diabetes prevalence and burden were computed in 204 countries and territories, across 25 age groups, for males and females separately and combined;these estimates comprised lost years of healthy life, measured in disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs;defined as the sum of years of life lost [YLLs] and years lived with disability [YLDs]). We used the Cause of Death Ensemble model (CODEm) approach to estimate deaths due to diabetes, incorporating 25 666 location-years of data from vital registration and verbal autopsy reports in separate total (including both type 1 and type 2 diabetes) and type-specific models. Other forms of diabetes, including gestational and monogenic diabetes, were not explicitly modelled. Total and type 1 diabetes prevalence was estimated by use of a Bayesian meta-regression modelling tool, DisMod-MR 2.1, to analyse 1527 location-years of data from the scientific literature, survey microdata, and insurance claims;type 2 diabetes estimates were computed by subtracting type 1 diabetes from total estimates. Mortality and prevalence estimates, along with standard life expectancy and disability weights, were used to calculate YLLs, YLDs, and DALYs.
