Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). 2021 International Conference on Environmental Engineering and Energy (ICEEE 2021) was held online in Wuhan, China, on November 20, 2021. ICEEE 2021 is co-sponsored by Modern International Green Culture Communication Association (MIGCCA), and the conference proceeding is published by IOP Publishing. ICEEE 2021 provides an excellent international forum for sharing knowledge and results in theory, methodology and applications of environmental engineering and energy. The conference looks for significant contributions to all major fields of environmental engineering and energy in theoretical and application aspects. The aim of the conference is to provide a platform to the global researchers and practitioners from both academia as well as industry to meet and share cutting-edge development in the fields. The ICEEE 2021 proceedings tend to collect the up-to-date, comprehensive and worldwide state-of-art knowledge on environmental engineering and energy. All of accepted papers were subjected to strict peer-reviewing by 2–5 expert reviewers. The papers have been selected for this volume because of quality and the relevance to the conference. We hope this book will not only provide the readers a broad overview of the latest research results, but also provide the readers a valuable summary and reference in these fields. COVID-19 cases were found in difference provinces, which were cluster of infection. In order to avoid virus' spreading, the organiser switched the conference to a virtual one. It was held online on November 20, 2021 via Tencent Meeting. The virtual conference consisted of Opening Speech (10 mins), Keynote Speeches (40 mins presentation + 10 mins Q&A), and Oral Presentation (15-20 mins presentation + 10 mins Q&A) and Concluding Remarks (5 mins). Background: Previous attempts to characterise the burden of chronic respiratory diseases have focused only on specific disease conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma. In this study, we aimed to characterise the burden of chronic respiratory diseases globally, providing a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis on geographical and time trends from 1990 to 2017. Methods: Using data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2017, we estimated the prevalence, morbidity, and mortality attributable to chronic respiratory diseases through an analysis of deaths, disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), and years of life lost (YLL) by GBD super-region, from 1990 to 2017, stratified by age and sex. Specific diseases analysed included asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease and pulmonary sarcoidosis, pneumoconiosis, and other chronic respiratory diseases. We also assessed the contribution of risk factors (smoking, second-hand smoke, ambient particulate matter and ozone pollution, household air pollution from solid fuels, and occupational risks) to chronic respiratory disease-attributable DALYs. Findings: In 2017, 544·9 million people (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 506·9–584·8) worldwide had a chronic respiratory disease, representing an increase of 39·8% compared with 1990. Chronic respiratory disease prevalence showed wide variability across GBD super-regions, with the highest prevalence among both males and females in high-income regions, and the lowest prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia. The age-sex-specific prevalence of each chronic respiratory disease in 2017 was also highly variable geographically. Chronic respiratory diseases were the third leading cause of death in 2017 (7·0% [95% UI 6·8–7·2] of all deaths), behind cardiovascular diseases and neoplasms. This paper presents a data fusion algorithm, using an Adaptive Extended Kalman filter (AFK) for estimation of velocity and position of a UAV. A LIDAR sensor provides local position updates using a SLAM technique, a GPS provides corrections when available and an Inertial Navigation System (INS) is used as an additional input to the Extended Kalman filter. We adapt the measurement noise covariance (R) of the AKF based on both the Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver error as well as on the LiDAR point cloud point-to-point match error. A simulation environment was developed to test the proposed SLAM as well as navigation (e.g., autopilot) algorithms in a virtual, but accurate environment. We show that by adapting the measurement noise covariance (R) of the AKF we improve both the accuracy and reliability of the position estimate, specially in areas with GPS signal drop outs such as urban canyon environments. © 2017, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. In this paper, a parameter estimation for a class of second order nonlinear system is presented. The considered system, can be represented in such way that it is linear respect its parameters. Since the system output is given, only, for the second integrator a state estimation of unmeasured state variables is reconstructed via nonlinear observer based on the terminal sliding mode observer. Therefore, the main contribution of this paper deals with a full order nonlinear observer algorithm design to enhance parameter identification of a nonlinear second order system. Finally, to illustrate the theoretical performance of the proposed identification algorithm, an experimental result of a mechanical system is presented.

Accelerator (accel) grid sputtering by ions formed through charge-exchange (CEX) reactions between beam ions and residual neutral gas is a critical life-limiting mechanism for gridded ion thrusters. The three-dimensional ion optics code CEX3D is designed to simulate this grid erosion for a single beamlet, with a particular emphasis on non-axisymmetric features such as the "pits and grooves" erosion commonly observed on the accel grid downstream face in two-grid thrusters. The treatment of CEX ions in the code was recently upgraded with a new particle-in-cell (PIC) module to account for the influence of these ions’ space charge on the electrostatic potential downstream of the grids. In order to achieve reasonable computation times while resolving the Debye length near the grids and avoiding gross violations of the Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy (CFL) condition, macroparticle velocities in the PIC calculation are limited through a rescaling procedure that preserves ion trajectories and space charge density. The code accounts for beam divergence, finite momentum transfer in CEX collisions, and radial losses of CEX ions from the beam;these effects are important for determining the CEX ion flux to the accel grid because the calculated potential downstream of the grids can become very flat. Despite substantial declines since 2000, lower respiratory infections (LRIs), diarrhoeal diseases, and malaria remain among the leading causes of nonfatal and fatal disease burden for children under 5 years of age (under 5), primarily in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The spatial burden of each of these diseases has been estimated subnationally across SSA, yet no prior analyses have examined the pattern of their combined burden. Here we synthesise subnational estimates of the burden of LRIs, diarrhoea, and malaria in children under-5 from 2000 to 2017 for 43 sub-Saharan countries. Some units faced a relatively equal burden from each of the three diseases, while others had one or two dominant sources of unit-level burden, with no consistent pattern geographically across the entire subcontinent. Using a subnational counterfactual analysis, we show that nearly 300 million DALYs could have been averted since 2000 by raising all units to their national average. Our findings are directly relevant for decision-makers in determining which and targeting where the most appropriate interventions are for increasing child survival. © 2022, The Author(s).

Resequencing of customers during the service process results in hard to analyze delay distributions. A set of models with various service and resequencing policies have been analyzed already for memoryless arrival, service and resequencing processes with an intensive use of transform domain descriptions. In case of Markov modulated arrival, service and resequencing processes those methods are not applicable any more. In a previous work we analyzed the Markov modulated case with HOQ-FIFO-FIFO policy (head of queue customer of the higher priority FIFO queue is moved to resequencing FIFO queue). In this work we investigate if the approach remains applicable for different service discipline for the HOQ-FIFO-LIFO policy. It turns out that the analysis of the new service policy requires the solution of a coupled quadratic matrix equations which were separated in the HOQ-FIFO-FIFO case. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.
