To improve the quality of life (QOL) through exercise, it is necessary to facilitate running with a sports femoral prostheses. A novice runner must maintain a large swing-up angle of the sport femoral prosthesis to prevent falls. In this study, a small sensor device was developed to measure the swing angle of the sports femoral prostheses. The developed device can improve the QOL through exercise.

Simplifying Robot Grasping in Manufacturing with a Teaching Approach based on a Novel User Grasp Metric

The manufacturing industry is undergoing rapid evolution, necessitating flexible and adaptable robots. However, configuring such machines requires technical experts, which are hard to find, especially for small and medium enterprises. Therefore, the process needs to be simplified by allowing non-experts to configure robots. During such configuration, one key aspect is the definition of objects’ grasping poses. The literature proposes deep learning techniques to compute grasping poses automatically and facilitate the process. Nevertheless, practical implementation for inexperienced factory operators can be challenging, especially if task-specific knowledge and constraints should be considered. To overcome this barrier, we propose an approach that facilitates teaching such poses. Our method, employing a novel user grasp metric, combines the operator's initial grasp guess given by a 3D spatial device with a state-of-the-art deep learning algorithm, thus returning reliable grasping poses but simultaneously close to the operator's initial guess. We compare this approach against commercial grasping pose definition interfaces through a user test involving 28 participants and against state-of-the-art deep learning grasp estimators. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in system usability (+24%) and a reduced workload (-16%). Furthermore, our experiments reveal an increased grasp success rate when utilizing the user grasp metric, surpassing state-of-the-art deep learning grasping estimators.

Using its pneumatic suction cups, this little window climbing robot should be able to clean and wash a pretty big area of outdoor office windows on high-rise buildings without human intervention. The robot will autonomously clean the room's windows in a predetermined pattern after being manually connected to the outer surface of the window. This study presents the results of an investigation into the potential of a robot called the Modular Glass Cleaning Robot (MGCR) to aid in the cleaning process. The suggested scheme's efficacy will be assessed by cross-validating it with the standard model known as the Conventional Glass Cleaning Robot (CGCR). One kind of robot that has recently evolved is the window cleaner. No matter the size of your building, this robot can find a job here. The primary objective is to develop a robot capable of swiftly and effectively cleaning glass windows, regardless of the location's inherent dangers. Hubbot, a robotic structure, is developed by this system. A combination of linear and rotational movements, as well as the ability to extend and retract the legs and avoid obstacles, will be accomplished. Its construction is both basic and lightweight. To simplify things, instead of a multi-joint legged moving structure, we'll see a hub and a few symmetrical legs. From a weight-saving standpoint, a hanging, reversible motor drives a rack and pinion gear. Furthermore, three distinct bearing configurations demonstrate a structural optimization of the rotating mechanism. Finding the optimal one that both keeps the robot's cost down and guarantees the shaft's stiffness is the goal. Lastly, the exploded picture of the entire structure is provided, along with a functional embodiment design that includes three mechanisms: adhesion, actuation, and movement. This work is important in clinical practice and drug development because DDIs are a major factor that poses serious risks to patients’ safety. To enable medication to be given properly with the least side effects, probable DDIs must be predicted correctly. This work introduces a new Spike driven Transformer based Hamiltonian Quantum Generative Adversarial Network with Gorilla Troops Optimizer (SDTbHQGAN-GTO), which achieves every given data set’s accurate DDIs prediction with ease. First, the DDIs datasets are obtained and then pre-processed where noise feature is eliminated from the data through normalization and data cleaning process. Subsequently, the local and global features concerning DDI prediction can be acquired employing Spike driven Transformer (SDT). After that, the DDI interaction can be predicted from the extracted data using Hamiltonian Quantum Generative Adversarial Network with Gorilla Troops Optimizer abbreviated as HQGAN-GTO. It is also possible to optimize the parameters of the HQGAN including reduction of the error and enhancement of the prediction accuracy using the Gorilla Troops Optimizer (GTO). Finally, the performance of the proposed method can be analysed in terms of accuracy, precision, recall and f-score. This approach is superior to the suggested one in terms of the worst-case higher order estimate in offering better 99.82% accuracy, 99.81% precision, 99.812% f1-score, 99.821% recall. Therefore for the accurate prediction of DDIs the proposed method surpasses the current methods in a significant way.

Due to the advances of shipbuilding technology, ships are gradually developing in the direction of large-scale and intellectualization. However, the hydrodynamic interaction has been pronounced as the increase in dimensions of ships and has become a significant influencing factor of ships sailing in restricted waters, and the accuracy of ship motion control is limited due to the complex environmental disturbances. Based on the potential flow theory the Hess & Smith panel method, the ship hydrodynamic interaction is calculated in real time, and based on the MMG equation, an adaptive path tracking control method is devised that can be integrated with motions of equation of ships moving in restricted waters. Through frequency domain transformation, the ship response model in restricted waters is simplified to a ship dynamic model, and the model missing terms in the simplified process is adaptively estimated. Accounting for the computational efficiency of hydrodynamic interaction, a path tracking controller for ships in restricted waters is designed based on PD control method with appropriate parameters. By comparing the control effect of PD controller in the model without adaptive estimation and adaptive estimation model, the effectiveness of adaptive estimation is verified.

This paper experimentally demonstrates the through wall sensing to detect human movement using a mmwave FMCW radar operating in the 60 GHz to 64 GHz band. The mmWave radar data processing framework focuses on the generation of point cloud data. Each human movement is illustrated with point cloud data, whose represents the position and orientation of pose, usually in 3D-cartesian coordinate system. In experiments, point cloud data from sensing through two different walls were collected for three activities into a 3 m by 3 m room. The data was analyzed through a comparison between the position of point cloud data and the position of the actual posture movement. The results prove that a mmWave radar placed behind the wall of the room is suitable for human detection and tracking in indoor environments, in terms of consistency with the actual posture.

This study deals with the development of an Artificial Intelligence-based integrated digital technology framework for lean and smart manufacturing implementation. Some technologies and techniques driving Industry 4.0 that are considered in this study include Additive Manufacturing (AM), Automatic Train Control (ATC), smart sensors, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, cloud computing, Total Productive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance (PM), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Using the rail industry as a case study, an overview of the enabling technologies was presented to acquaint the manufacturing industries with the potentials and applications of these technologies to manufacturing. The study also develops a conceptual framework which incorporates the main driving technologies of lean and smart manufacturing for adoption by the rail industry. The validation of the proposed integrated framework involves the use of AI technology for total productive and predictive maintenance using the rail industry as a case study was conducted in the MATLAB 2020 b environment. The outcome of the demonstration shows the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of a bearing component of a railcar can be predicted using AI. The predicted RUL of the wheel bearing indicates 500 hours over the next 40 days before failure occurs. Thus, this study adds to the understanding of AI in the lean and smart manufacturing domain. The implementation of the integrated framework can promote efficiency and effectively service delivery in industries that employs the concept of lean and smart manufacturing.

This research WIP paper on innovative practices aims to identify the digital competencies required by graduates to strengthen their graduate profile, with the components of these competencies including the labor requirements of employers. The research is mixed, it started with a diagnosis of 132 digital questionnaires directed to students. The structure of the questionnaire took as a reference the digital competence frameworks proposed by researchers on the subject. The second step consists of the analysis of interviews with 5 employers from various productive sectors and 10 specialized teachers to finally determine the proposal for Digital Competencies.

This paper presents human pose estimation using millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar technology capable of penetrating obstacles. Operating within the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) at 60 - 64 GHz, our radar system generates signals conducive to accurate human pose representation. Our data processing framework focuses on producing point cloud data, effectively capturing each human movement. Results are visualized through a 2D graph, with the z-axis representing time. Experimental data, collected from various activities conducted behind different walls, underwent thorough analysis, comparing point cloud positions with actual human postures. The outcomes affirm the effectiveness of mmWave radar systems, positioned behind obstacles, in accurately extracting human postures.

The CASE (Connected, Automated, Services, Electrification) trends are shaping the automotive industry, leading to new disruptive innovations and challenges. Besides level 4/5 automated driving or shared mobility, one major factor for the success of CASE are software over-the-air (SOTA) updates. Even though map updates are common, feature updates throughout the vehicle's life cycle are not yet. This results partially from non-existent virtual respectively hardware free test methods as well as environments for SOTA updates. Therefore, this paper presents a digital twin concept for virtual testing of software updates for mechatronic systems. Firstly, it allows to set up and load Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) test environments including individual vehicle configurations. Secondly, a graph based weighting algorithm enables the use of operational vehicle field data in combination with behaviourbased data from virtual test environments in order to enrich the test quality. Lastly, a traversal algorithm can detect the functions control flow and propagate test cases alongside it.
