In target tracking, radar or sonar sensors provide amplitude information as well as kinematic information, e.g., range and bearing. Considering the amplitude information with kinematic information, tracker can more effectively distinguish measurement origin in cluttered environment. The tracker utilizes the amplitude information in the form of signal to noise ratio (SNR). However, a major challenge comes from the fact that the SNR is often fluctuated according to the target's aspect and effective radar cross section. So the certain level of uncertainty of SNR should be reduced. Focused on the point, we propose a novel SNR estimation algorithm based on sequential Monte Carlo method. Finally, estimated SNR is applied to the probability data association filter with amplitude information. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and high accuracy of the idea of exploiting SNR estimation in heavy cluttered environments.

The paper provides results of dynamic numerical analysis of piezoelectric cantilever-type microgenerator intended for wireless MEMS applications. This analysis constitutes an initial phase of ongoing research work aimed at microgenerator optimal design. It is based on beneficial utilization of higher vibration modes, which may offer significant benefits in terms of dynamic performance. Here we report preliminary results of simulations that were performed with a developed 3-D finite element model of the microgenerator that constitutes a bilayer cantilever structure with proof mass at the free end. The structure was subjected to harmonic base excitation by applying vertical acceleration through body load. The resulting characteristics reveal strong dependence of magnitude of generated voltage on design and excitation parameters (frequency, acceleration). Initial findings indicate the necessity to develop microgenerator design with self-tuning of the resonance frequency, i.e. the device should adapt to varying excitation frequency so as to be driven in resonance thereby achieving maximal electrical power output.

A novel uniplanar ultra-broadband double doubly balanced mixer (DDBM) is proposed for high dynamic range applications. The proposed mixer is based on three uniplanar dual baluns employing a coplanar waveguide (CPW)-to-coplanar stripline (CPS) T-junction. The proposed mixer is fabricated on a 25 mil-thick alumina substrate using a standard thin film process. The fabricated DDBM has a RF bandwidth of 1 to 26 GHz with a conversion loss ranging from 4.5 to 9.8 dB and a high third-order intercept point of 24 dBm. The measured LO-to-RF and LO-to-IF isolations are better than 14.8 dB and 16.7 dB for the LO frequency from 1 to 26 GHz.
