This paper presents the integration results of the EMC2 software, mechatronic prototype and fuzzy PI controller. The structure of fuzzy controller has two-inputs, two-outputs (TITO) system where the error and derivative error are the inputs while the proportional and integral gains are the outputs. The fuzzy sets for each input are five Gaussian membership functions, the product fuzzy logic AND operator and the centroid defuzzifier are used to gain scheduling PI. The experimental results of the closed-loop system show the viability and effectiveness of the control position strategy. This mechatronic system is widely used in metal-mechanical industry.

This paper investigates the H 2 /H ∞ control problem for a class of discrete-time networked control systems with random communication time delays. Both sensor-to-controller (S-C) and controller-to-actuator (C-A) random network-induced delays are considered. Two independent Markov chains are used to model the S-C and C-A random delays. The resulting closed-loop system is a jump linear time-delay system induced by two Markov chains. Sufficient conditions for existence of H 2 /H ∞ controller are established by free-weighting matrix and stochastic Lyapunov functions. A simulation example illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The sawtooth instability is a repetitive phenomenon occurring in plasmas of tokamak nuclear fusion reactors. Experimental studies of these instabilities and the effect they have on the plasma (notably the drive of secondary instabilities and consequent performance reduction) for a wide variety of plasma conditions is an important line of study in nuclear fusion research. Variations in the plasma conditions have a significant influence on the dynamical behavior of the sawtooth instability. Therefore, this paper presents the design of a sawtooth period controller which is robust against such variations. The controller is from a class of adaptive controllers better known as extremum seekers. In this technique, a cost function in terms of the desired sawtooth period is optimized on-line. The Extremum Seeking controller (ESC) is model-free and is therefore inherently robust against model uncertainty. Simulations show that the controller is robust against variations in plasma parameters, delay in the sawtooth crash detection, and noise on the in- and outputs of the process. Because of its robustness, ESC is a promising candidate strategy for a wide range of fusion-related control problems with high model uncertainty.

Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) views the entire gastrointestinal (GI) tract. A main problem associated with this novel device is that too many frames must be reviewed by physicians. Thus it is essential to find an automatic and intelligent method to help physicians. One of the problems in WCE is its difficulty to distinguish among different organ's tissues. So, we introduce two novel algorithms which are able to classify main organs (among esophagus, stomach, small bowel and colon) in WCE's frames. In order to obtain our aim, we use statistic features (Haralick features) and non-statistic features (different diagrams and Gabor filter banks), colored features and non-colored features. Our experimental studies indicate good results that are shown in conclusion.
