Acoustic Emission (AE) based techniques are used for the non-destructive inspection of mechanical structures in order to detect very early stage damage before a structure completely fails. The detection and accurate localization of these emissions are essential to provide a reliable fault monitoring and become the backbone for the application of trustworthy quantitative methods for source mechanism characterization. Error analysis is then fundamental for the evaluation of the accuracy and reliability of localization results. In this paper a review of the main analysis techniques is presented and several methods including multiresolution analysis, quadratic time-frequency energy analysis, entropy based onset time detectors and artificial neural networks are used and evaluated. Experiments have been performed by means of simulated sources on the surface of an isotropic plate-like structure using a network of broadband acoustic emission sensors and the spatial localization errors were analyzed. In the end, a method joining different techniques is proposed for providing automatic source location with a very high accuracy.

The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of the (possible) acid adaptation during growth in a glucose rich environment on the heat resistance of Escherichia coli K12 MG1655. E. coli cells were grown in TSB and/or TSB dextrose free broth until they reached the stationary phase. Afterwards, the stationary phase cells were added in TSB and/or TSB dextrose free broth and inactivation took place at 54 o C and 58 o C. It was observed that growth in a glucose rich environment leads to an increased heat resistance, most likely due to a certain level of acid and further heat adaptation via cross protection.

We establish the sound absorption mode of micro-nano aperture membrane material according to the classic porous media acoustic theory and cylindrical shell model theory and considering the viscous resistance theory and the heat conduction theory as well. Comparing the theoretical result obtained by simulating the sound absorption property through Matlab and the experimental result, we prove the validity of the mode and it conforms to the sound absorption law of the porous material. We predict the Acoustic Propagation roperties of ordered mesoporous thin film using this mode and find the absorption coefficient is very small and the absorption property of the micro-nano aperture membrane is poor.
