Active magnetic guidances are increasingly used in technologies requiring multicoordinate drives with positioning uncertainties in the nanometre range, e.g. coordinate measuring machines. It is an important aspect for the performance of a magnetic guidance, how accurately the levitated platform can be kept stable at a certain vertical position despite disturbances through load changes, mechanical oscillations and signal noise. In this paper three approaches are presented, which enable a reduction of disturbance effects on the magnetic guidance by means of modifications in the control algorithm. To reduce the vertical (z) positioning error caused by the forces of the planar (xy) drive, a double-integral (I2) controller was used. Furthermore it is shown, how oscillations with known frequencies can be actively damped by means of notch filters. Finally an algebraic derivative estimation for the reduction of positioning noise was added to the controller.

In this paper, we investigate the evolution of two non-identical two-level atoms in two-mode cavity fields. We demonstrate the death and rebirth effect of entanglement for two non-identical two-level atoms under some initial conditions. It is also exemplified that entangled states of two nonidentical two-level atoms can be generated by entangled two-mode cavity fields. This research can be considered as a first step to further investigate the problem of manipulating two nonidentical two-level atoms in two-mode cavity fields.

This paper deals with piecewise affine (PWA) approximation of nonlinear systems. Its motivation is simple. If the controlled plant exhibits nonlinear behavior, linear controller based on linearized model may often be unable to achieve satisfactory performance. On the other hand, intrinsic complexity of the nonlinear controller based on full nonlinear model may prevent it from practical application. PWA model that uses a set of switched partial linear models can then represent the middle way between simplifications of the linearized model and complexity of the nonlinear model. The paper uses a case study of a nonlinear power plant boiler. It shows that its complex nonlinear dynamical behavior can well be approximated with a relatively simple PWA system. Unlike one linearized model, this PWA approximation fits boiler dynamic behavior very well. As the development of model predictive control of the PWA systems has already reached a substantial level of maturity, this PWA model can be used as a basis for the design of hybrid model predictive control for this boiler.

Sonar sensor is an attractive range sensor for mobile robots, but the lack of good spatial resolution result it difficult to apply in localization or mapping. To overcome the bad angular resolution and the frequent number of outliers in sonar data, different sonar data fusion techniques are used. In this paper a method to extract point and line features from sonar data returns is presented. The method is based on the TBF algorithm, but line feature extraction is added. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, an experiment is carried out along a corridor and results are given.

This paper presents an LED BLU driving circuit with a local-dimming structure. The efficiency of the proposed LED driver has been improved by parallel driving 8 serial-connected LED arrays. It employed the soft-switching boost converter topology to reduce the switching power loss of the hard switching boost converter. The soft-switching converter reveals superior ripple and efficiency. A smaller inductance can be used for the soft-switching converter contrasting to the hard-switching one and studied on an over-voltage protection circuit of the output of the driver at the no load condition.
