In the process clean and low-carbon power systems construction, an increasing proportion of wind turbines participate in the power market, but the randomness of its output will bring great market risks. To reduce the risks, wind power, thermal power, pumped storage units, and other regulatory facilities would jointly participate in the power market. How these participants obtain more benefits under coordination has become a research focus. This paper proposes a stochastic optimization model for wind-thermal-pumped storage units cooperatively participate in day-ahead power market and frequency modulation(FM) market. In both markets, these participants are required to declare the next-day generation outputs, bidding prices, and the available generation capacity that can be used for frequency modulation. The model considers the statistical characteristics and correlations of wind power outputs between different periods and proposes a scenario reduction method. In addition, the model also introduces a CVaR risk control method for market electricity price, wind generation output, FM mileage and other uncertainties. In recent years, the error-state Kalman filter (ErKF) has been extensively employed across various applications, including but not limited to robotics, aerospace, and localization. However, incorporating constraints into the ErKF framework when state constraint is necessary has remained a challenging task due to its intrinsic properties. This paper explores all possible ways to achieve this goal in the context of the estimate projection method. In particular, the constraint can be enforced before or after the ErKF’s correction step. We approach the problem from a mathematical perspective by deriving analytical solutions and discussing their statistical properties. We prove that the two mentioned methods are statistically identical for a linear system with linear constraints. Conversely, the filter’s behavior remains uncertain in the presence of linearized constraints. However, we provide a special case of the nonlinear constraint, wherein the results of the linear case remain valid. To support our theorem and verify the filter’s performance when the assumptions are invalidated, we present two Monte Carlo simulations under the increasing initialization error and the constraint’s incompleteness. The simulation results clearly confirm our insights and lead to the conclusion that constraining the error-state after the correction may offer superior outcomes compared to its competitor. © 2023, CC BY.

This paper introduces the RGB Arabic Alphabet Sign Language (AASL) dataset. AASL comprises 7,857 raw and fully labelled RGB images of the Arabic sign language alphabets, which to our best knowledge is the first publicly available RGB dataset. The dataset is aimed to help those interested in developing real-life Arabic sign language classification models. AASL was collected from more than 200 participants and with different settings such as lighting, background, image orientation, image size, and image resolution. Experts in the field supervised, validated and filtered the collected images to ensure a high-quality dataset. AASL is made available to the public on Kaggle.1 © 2023, CC BY.

Tunning semiconductors to function as a fast ionic conductor is an innovative approach to advancing the field for low-temperature ceramic fuel cells (FCs). A significant challenge for a chemist is to design an electrolyte with conductivity exceeding 0.1 S/cm at 300–600oC. In this study, we investigate the unusual structural and electrical properties of CeO2-Al2O3 heterostructure composites as potential electrolytes for FCs. We propose a semiconductor-insulator (type-1) heterostructure approach to develop composite electrolytes for low-temperature (LT) FCs, where a built-in electric field (BIEF) at interface accelerates ions transport. Constructed CeO2-Al2O3 heterostructure electrolyte exhibits ionic conductivity reaching 0.21 S/cm, with its FC performance achieving maximum power density (MPD) of 1192 mW/cm2 at 520 °C. The type-I band alignment-based heterostructure with BIEF significantly enhances the electrochemical properties by promoting efficient charge separation and ionic conductivity while suppressing electronic conduction. The heterostructure exhibited superior electrical properties compared to individual CeO2 and Al2O3 components, making it a promising capable candidate for FC applications. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

In this study, a low-cost wireless industrial system is designed and implemented in a local pharmaceutical factory for monitoring and control. ESP8266 modules were utilized to establish wireless communication among various input and output devices in the factory. The master-slave (i.e., server-client) technology using ESP8266 modules was adopted for the communication topology where all clients can be connected to various types of sensors (e.g., to measure variables such as temperature, humidity, and pressure) and outputs (e.g., relays, lights, and output devices) for control purposes. It is in fact a simplified SCADA system implemented using low-cost WiFi microchips for monitoring and control. In addition, an HTML webpage was designed as a GUI for monitoring the sensors' measurements and manually controlling some output devices that are distributed normally in factories. Moreover, a data logger was also designed and implemented using Google Sheets for mainly saving the data (i.e., measurement of real-time parameter variations) and for generating informative reports for users and management.

This paper presents the development of an automated wheelchair, a mobility-assistive device that helps visually impaired people in the community. For such people, there are many constraints associated while moving to their desired destination. One of the main objectives of the current work is to design and develop a low-cost smart wheelchair that navigates to its destination autonomously. This smart navigation system (SNS) uses a machine vision technique for localization and path planning and proximity sensors for obstacle avoidance. The wheelchair can autonomously navigate to the location selected by the user through a braille keypad interface. The mechanical design is focused to make a finished product that is stable and according to basic medical considerations. The hardware design in the paper aims to enable a visually impaired person to perform daily routine tasks without the need for any assistance. © 2020 IEEE.

Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controllers achieve higher importance due to the high expansion rate of photovoltaic systems. The probability of partial shading conditions (PSCs) is also increased which drastically reduced the maximum power extraction capability from PV systems. In this paper, different types of MPPT algorithms using direct control method have been examined under the same test conditions. The current research trend on MPPT controllers has also been highlighted. Smart manufacturing systems combine collaborative and autonomous control systems to provide optimal performance and respond to volatile demands. A key component of smart manufacturing is material management, as raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products must be transported to the right location at the right time. However, during the production phase, it is imperative to establish an optimal traffic control scheme in order to avoid congestion and optimize material flow. This paper proposes a platooning-based control procedure implemented in a virtual agent-based manufacturing environment to increase the material flow efficiency on a manufacturing shop floor. An analysis of the production makespan and an indicator of the level of congestion in the material handling system was conducted in order to determine productivity improvements. An agent-based simulation is used to test the effectiveness of the novel platooning approach versus a traditional basic approach. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) reveals that the inclusion of a platoon-based procedure improves production performance and reduces congestion risks.

Sensor network localization (SNL) problems require determining the physical coordinates of all sensors in a network. This process relies on the global coordinates of anchors and the available measurements between non-anchor and anchor nodes. Attributed to the intrinsic non-convexity, obtaining a globally optimal solution to SNL is challenging, as well as implementing corresponding algorithms. In this paper, we formulate a non-convex multi-player potential game for a generic SNL problem to investigate the identification condition of the global Nash equilibrium (NE) therein, where the global NE represents the global solution of SNL. We employ canonical duality theory to transform the non-convex game into a complementary dual problem. Then we develop a conjugation-based algorithm to compute the stationary points of the complementary dual problem. On this basis, we show an identification condition of the global NE: the stationary point of the proposed algorithm satisfies a duality relation. Finally, simulation results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the theoretical results. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
