Solar-driven interfacial evaporation (SDIE) technique is a sustainable approach that utilizes solar energy to produce steam, thus addressing freshwater scarcity. Despite several earlier research investigations, claims beyond the theoretical limit were raised due to limitations in solar-to-vapor and condensate efficiency, which remain under debate. Even under superlative conditions, low condensate and energy losses persist, indicating that the system's efficiency will never reach > 100 %. This review primarily analyzes the theoretical values of evaporation rate, structural configurations, strategic approaches, and physical factors influencing condensate yields in the SDIE process. Using a theoretical energy distribution framework, this study identifies mechanisms driving conversion efficiency and condensate rate beyond equilibrium predictions, e.g., phase change process, and vapor-liquid equilibrium. Low water collection efficiency in condensation systems, driven by poor thermal management and inadequate surface designs, demands interfacial engineering strategies such as hydrophobic/hydrophilic coatings to enhance latent heat recovery and condensate yields, as briefly examined in this review. It emphasizes misconceptions about efficiencies beyond theoretical limits, purification challenges, and complementary applications while guiding researchers to provide plausible explanations for breakthroughs under specific and established reference conditions.

We address the problem of input-to-state stabilization of linear parameter-varying (LPV) discrete-time systems with delayed state and subject to saturated actuators and to 2-limited disturbance. It is assumed that the time-varying delay belongs to a known interval and its maximum variation between two consecutive instants has limited rate. We propose convex delay-dependent conditions for the synthesis of LPV state feedback controllers that do not require the real-time knowledge of the delay and ensure the local input-to-state stability of the closed-loop system for a set of initial conditions and subject to energy bounded disturbance input signals. The approach is based on rewriting the delayed system as a switched uncertain augmented delay-free system with a dead-zone non-linearity and on the application of the generalized sector condition to deal with the saturating actuators. To illustrate the efficiency of our approach, we present a numerical example. © 2018

Together with innovations in robot technologies and the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution called Industry 4.0, collaborative robot applications have improved. Collaborative robots are the robots that provide the safe handling of many processes such as assembly, pick and place, palletizing in factories. The reliability analysis of the system has great importance in order to determine the failure conditions and failure possibilities that will occur in the systems enabling these operations. In this study, reliability analysis of assembly processes performed by human-robot interaction is presented. The reliability block diagram of the system is created and the reliability value of the system over time is determined. Then, Markov model indicating the fault conditions in the system is created and the probability of occurrence of these fault conditions is determined. The results show that if the system operates continuously for five years, the reliability will drop below 10% and the reasons that decrease the reliability are discussed in the last section.

Designing Cyclic Schedules for Streaming Repetitive Job-Shop Manufacturing Systems with Blocking and No-Wait Constraints

We consider a problem of designing no-wait cyclic schedules for job-shop manufacturing system with repetitive transportation tasks that are defined by sequences of operations. Each operation is performed in a sector of manufacturing system using its resources, e.g. vehicles, machines, and takes some time for manufacturing and transportation. The sectors and their resources can be shared by several tasks in the exclusive mode. There are no buffers between sectors thus when a transportation car is in a sector it blocks this sector to other cars and cannot leave it until a sector which is required by the following operation in its transportation route is free. The repetitive transportation tasks performed in a manufacturing system are modelled as a system of cyclic processes executing sequences of operations and sharing common resources according to a mutual exclusion protocol. The problem consists in finding no-wait cyclic schedules for which no process (tasks) that started execution will wait for resources (sectors) required to execute its operations and each operation will be started immediately after finishing the previous one. The casade-like structure (C-LS) system of processes is considered. This system is structurally deadlock-free therefore no-buffer (resource blocking) constraint will never lead to deadlock state. The C-LS system of processes can be seen as a composition of subsystems with two cyclic processes sharing a single resource, namely 2-P subsystems. Using our recurrent integer modulus equations model (developed in our previous works) we find for each 2-P subsystem all possible start times of the processes (if exist) that belong to a no-wait schedule and construct all possible no-wait schedules for each component 2-P. Finally, we design cyclic no-wait schedules for the C-LS system by joining the cyclic schedules designed for its component 2-P subsystems.

This paper is concerned with the network-theoretic properties of so-called k-nearest neighbor intelligent vehicular platoons, where each vehicle communicates with k vehicles, both in front and behind. The network-theoretic properties analyzed in this paper play major roles in quantifying the resilience and robustness of three generic distributed estimation and control algorithms against communication failures and disturbances, namely resilient distributed estimation, resilient distributed consensus, and robust network formation. Based on the results for the connectivity measures of the k-nearest neighbor platoon, we show that extending the traditional platooning topologies (which were only based on interacting with nearest neighbors) to k-nearest neighbor platoons increases the resilience of distributed estimation and control algorithms to both communication failures and disturbances. © 2018

And the actual teaching for a semester according to this research, through the virtual simulationteaching, improved teaching efficiency, improved the industrial robot application level and ability of thestudents, reduced the equipment failure rate, and laid a solid foundation for the subsequent course.

This paper presents an application of formal methods based on model checking techniques for safety verification of a railway interlocking system. The proposed model checking techniques are implemented on a timed automaton model of the considered interlocking systems and with respect to safety operational specification that are expressed as computation tree logic formulas. The freely available UPPAAL model checker is used to perform the model checking task and simulation results of the performed verification are presented.

In this article, the problem of designing Active Disturbance Rejection control (ADRC) for a class of second-order mechanical systems, expressed with Euler-Lagrange equations, is studied. A specific and practically motivated case is considered here, namely trajectory tracking task without the use of signal time-derivatives in the tracking controller. A general solution is proposed showing how to synthesize and tune the observer and the controller parts of the ADRC scheme. A special Extended State Observer is used in the design and here it takes the form of a Generalized Proportional Integral Observer (GPIO), which uses a Taylor series approximation of the total disturbance. A set of experimental results, obtained using a two degree-of-freedom robotic manipulator, shows the effectiveness of the proposed governing scheme in terms of trajectory realization and disturbance rejection without the use of signal time-derivatives in the controller.

Despite the development of medicine, as well as robotics aimed at helping people with disabilities, most disabled people with missing limbs cannot hope for a full life with the help of bionic prostheses, since these products are made strictly individually, and their control requires expensive surgeries to implant sensors. In addition, such prostheses themselves are very expensive. An alternative solution is to reduce the cost of such prostheses as much as possible and abandon the implantable sensors of signals of the human nervous system. The paper proposes a method for solving such a problem using a variety of sensors that remove signals from the skin surface without invasive surgery.
