In this paper, a method to implement the input shaping control in Mechatrolink-III motion system is introduced. Firstly, the underdamped system is theoretically built by modeling. Then, the motion controller of Mechatrolink-III network is designed to apply the input shaper for reducing residual vibration in manufacturing machine. Later, the experimental beam is set-up to verify the effective performance of input shaping technique. The validity of the control strategy is practically performed by testing ZV, ZVD and ZVDD input shapers. Especially, the successful implementation provides an opportunity to apply the input shaper for multi-axes since Mechatrolink-III motion controller supports up to 32 axes.

Smart materials as MFC sensors and actuators are proposed for suppressing the small amplitude vibration of a thin circular plate. The sensors and actuators location are dealt with in this study. A modal filtering concept is then introduced in order to extract the unwanted harmonics. The paper describes the simulation an experimental implementation of the chosen control law on MicroDAQ-embedded real-time control and measurement system.

A flatness based decentralized Active Disturbance Rejection control (ADRC) approach is here proposed as a means to deal with the fully nonlinear, exogenously perturbed, version, of the four-tank benchmark process problem under non-minimum phase behavior for the traditionally chosen system outputs. The liquid level control task, related to the two lower tanks, is transformed into a corresponding, indirect, multi-input multi-flat-output decoupling control problem for the flat outputs. Decentralized robust active disturbance rejection controllers are proposed for the flat outputs, thus circumventing the well known non-minimum phase problems. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated via extensive realistic simulation results, wherein unknown chaotic inputs are proposed as exogenous disturbances.

This In this paper, an extension of the Sontag's universal formula is proposed. For benchmark, the proposed method is compared with two other approaches, i.e. a universal Sontag's formula and a direct Lyapunov with comparing square. To observe the efficacy of the proposed method, a numerical nonlinear system with cubic damping is stabilized. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown that the magnitude of the control signal can be bounded without a catastrophic effect to the closed loop stability. Other appealing features of the proposed method is that the stabilization cost can be reduced, and the elimination of the useful nonlinear terms can be avoided.

Visitors utilize the urban space based on their thermal perception and thermal environment. The thermal adaptation engages the user’s behavioural, physiological and psychological aspects. These aspects play critical roles in user’s ability to assess the thermal environments. Previous studies have rarely addressed the effects of identified factors such as gender, age and locality on outdoor thermal comfort, particularly in hot, dry climate. This study investigated the thermal comfort of visitors at two city squares in Iran based on their demographics as well as the role of thermal environment. Assessing the thermal comfort required taking physical measurement and questionnaire survey. In this study, a non-linear model known as the neural network autoregressive with exogenous input (NN-ARX) was employed. Five indices of physiological equivalent temperature (PET), predicted mean vote (PMV), standard effective temperature (SET), thermal sensation votes (TSVs) and mean radiant temperature (T mrt) were trained and tested using the NN-ARX. Then, the results were compared to the artificial neural network (ANN) and the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The findings showed the superiority of the NN-ARX over the ANN and the ANFIS. For the NN-ARX model, the statistical indicators of the root mean square error (RMSE) and the mean absolute error (MAE) were 0.53 and 0.36 for the PET, 1.28 and 0.71 for the PMV, 2.59 and 1.99 for the SET, 0.29 and 0.08 for the TSV and finally 0.19 and 0.04 for the T mrt.

This paper presents the performance analysis of Model Predictive controller (MPC) for the controlling of position of cylinder's stroke for pneumatic actuator system. The mathematical model of the system was obtained using System Identification (SI) technique and the linear approach using AutoRegressive with Exogenous Input (ARX) was chosen as a model structure to describe the dynamic behavior and characteristics of the system. The input constraints were applied to the MPC algorithm to make the controller operates closer to the limits. In this paper, the performance of MPC in controlling the position of the pneumatic actuator system as well as tracking the set-point was compared with Proportional-Integral (PI) controller. The performance of the controllers were assessed by taking into account the percentage overshoot (%OS), settling time (t s ), rise time (t r ), and steady-state error (SSE) of the responses. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the MPC with constrained input in producing better transient response and minimizing SSE.

An effective Improved Artificial Potential Field-based SImultaneous FORward Search (Improved APF-based SIFORS) method was developed in known environment, which was very similar with the path relaxation method. We firstly redefined potential functions to calculate a valid path, then proposed a SImultaneous FORward Search method (SIFORS method) to shorten the distance of planned path. Such path was calculated by connecting the sequential points produced by Improved APF method. And we mainly focused on discussing the Bidirectional Improved APF-based SIFORS method in this paper. The simulation results confirmed that our proposed path planning approach could calculate a shorter, collision-free, no oscillations and safe path to a destination than general Improved APF methods can, and consumed few computational times.

The correct determination of the shelf mass including content is very important for the proper function of a universal shelf stacker (USS) drives life and construction USS so that these elements were not overloaded. Weighing can be done by direct methods using various sensors tension and compression but also the indirect method, by the torque sensing of current frequency converter, which controls the speed of the three-phase asynchronous motor. This method does not require any additional construction or adaptation or additional sensors or electronic evaluation system power operation. Weighting method of shelf in USS is based on the fact that the torque converter current is proportional to the sum of the weight of the shelf and the extractor and its value provides almost every frequency converter. In contrast to the direct weighing method of the shelf it is obvious economic advantage of this method and the accuracy is sufficient for the operation of USS. Copyright © 2015. Magneto-rheological (MR) fluid technology has made it possible to develop reliable, revolutionary vibration control systems for a variety of commercial, medical and military applications. MR fluid shock absorber systems are enabled by versatile MR fluid technology, which allows the system to respond instantly and controllably to varying levels of vibration or shock with simple, robust designs. This paper presents a parametric study of the MR dampers for semi-active vibration control. The influence of gap size of the damper on the viscous stress of the MR fluid is examined. It is inferred from the study that the viscous stress of the MR fluid for different parameters such as gap size influences the dynamic range of MR fluid dampers. The simulated results depict amaximum viscous stress of 1765.441 N/m2 for a gap size of 1.85 mm. The developed dynamic range would allow for smaller size of the device, higher dynamic yield stress and lower power consumption. The simulated results using finite element analysis for the verification of the parametric strategy have been presented. Results of this study shall enhance the design of MR dampers for different control applications. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper presents a modeling technique of sequential batch reactor (SBR) for aerobic granular sludge (AGS) using artificial neural network (ANN). A SBR fed with synthetic wastewater was operated at high temperature of 50℃ to study the formation of AGS for simultaneous organics and nutrients removal in 60 days. The feed forward neural network (FFNN) was used to model the nutrients removal process. In this work, inertia weight particle swarm optimization (PSO) and gravitational search algorithm (GSA) were employed to optimize the neural network weights and biases. It was observed that the inertia weight GSA-NN give better prediction of nutrient removal compared with Inertia weight PSO. The performance of the models was measured using the R~2, mean square error (MSE) and root mean square error (RMSE).
