Cyber-physical Modeling and Control of Crowd of Pedestrians:A Review and New Framework

Recent advances in modeling and control of crowd of pedestrians are briefly surveyed in this paper. Possibilities of applying fractional calculus in the modeling of crowd of pedestrians have been shortly reviewed and discussed from different aspects such as descriptions of motion, interactions of long range and effects of memory. Control of the crowd of pedestrians have also been formulated using the framework of cyber-physical systems and been realized using networked Segways with onboard emergency response personnels to regulate the velocity and flux of the crowd. Platform for verification of the theoretical results are also provided in this paper. © 2014 Chinese Association of automation.

Battery packs have been widely used as the power source in many fields, such as pure or hybrid electric vehicles, because of the advantages of high energy density, long cycle life, low self-discharge rate, no memory effect and so on. The heat dissipation is a key issue in the reliability of the batteries, especially for high power applications. Paraffin waxes are commonly used phase change materials in the thermal management of Li-ion battery packs. In order to improve the thermal performance, graphene powders are utilized as additives to increase the thermal conductivity of paraffin waxes. A series of graphene-enhanced paraffin wax samples are prepared, and then the prepared samples are applied to power sources for experimental evaluation. The results show an improved heat dissipation of paraffin waxes with graphene enhancement. Temperature rise in the heat source can be decreased, and the effect is more obvious for higher power case.

The delta parallel mechanism has proven to be a very successful parallel robot design and a number of variants have been proposed in the literature. Taking advantage of its simple construction and the intrinsic features such as high stiffness and accuracy, delta robots play an important role both in the fields of industrial robots and academical fields. In this paper, dynamic modeling and control simulation of a cable-driven modified delta manipulator for haptic interface are discussed. For the parallel mechanism is highly coupled and nonlinear, the dynamic model is of great importance for model-based controller to achieve a satisfactory performance. Based on the principle of virtual work, the dynamic equations of this manipulator are established. The proportional-derivative (PD) computed torque control scheme is proposed for trajectory tracking. With the help of the virtual prototype builded in ADAMS software and used in MATLAB software, the co-simulation is accomplished and the results validate the performance of the controller proposed in this paper. © 2015 IEEE.

Remote sensing data using thermal-infrared (TIR) cameras can be very helpful for many applications including agriculture and thermal refugia for fish habitat. Small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAS) can be efficient platforms for providing high-resolution thermal imagery at a low-cost;however most thermal cameras used for remote sensing are cooled systems and can be very large, expensive, and consume large amounts of power. Because of these constraints they are not easily integrated with small UAS. For surveillance and military applications, microbolometer thermal cameras are widely used on UAS because they are smaller, less expensive and consume less power than cooled thermal cameras. However, microbolometer thermal cameras are not as sensitive and accurate as cooled systems. Also, many are not calibrated and only measure relative temperature. This presents a challenge when microbolometer thermal cameras are used for scientific and ecological applications: absolute surface temperature is necessary for these applications. This paper presents procedures that can be followed to convert the raw images from a microbolometer camera to accurately represent surface temperature (without compensating for emissivity). The steps needed for this include preparing the images for orthoretification, geometric calibration, orthorectification, and correction for external disturbances.

Probabilistic Remote Preparation of a Four-Particle Entangled W State for the General Case and for All Kinds of the Special Cases

We present a protocol for probabilistic remote preparation of a four-particle entangled W state. The quantum channel is composed of two partial entangled four-particle cluster states. We caiculate the total successful probability and total classical communication cost required for the general case and for all kinds of the special cases, respectively. It is shown that for two maximally entangled four-particle cluster states, such a scheme for the general case has the total successful probability of 25% and only consumes the total classical communication of I bit, while this scheme for the special cases under certain conditions can possess successful probability of 50% or 100%, the required classical communication will only be 2 bits or 4 bits. Meantime, we give in detail all unitary transformations for the general case and for all kinds of the special cases, respectively.

In the present paper,a chip with a Pt-based RTD that functions as a heater and sensor is tested under serial power loads,and infrared(IR)thermal imaging system is adopted to obtain the thermal *** of the hotspot temperatures of the chip obtained by RTD and IR methods have been made,where different surfaces of the chip were observed by the IR *** with the heat conduction law,the IR results of the test chip with surface preparation showed quite a good agreement with the RTD data,verifying the validation of the IR analysis method.

This paper is concerned with the identification problems of linear parameter varying (LPV) systems with randomly missing output data. Since one local linearized model cannot capture the global dynamics of the nonlinear industrial process, the multiple-model LPV model in which the global model is constructed by smoothly weighted combination of multiple local models is considered here. The problem of missing output variables data is commonly encountered in practice. In order to handle the multiple-model identification problems of LPV systems with incomplete data, the local model is taken to have a finite impulse response (FIR) model structure and the generalized expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm is adopted to estimate the unknown parameters of the global LPV model. To avoid the problems of ill-conditioned matrices and high sensitivity of parameters to noise, the prior information on the coefficients of each local FIR model is employed to construct the prior probability of unknown parameters. Then the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimates of the global model parameters are derived via the generalized EM algorithm. The numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

As the computing technology develops, micro-simulation becomes more and more important in the Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS) research, because it can provide detailed descriptions of the system. However, for a multi-agent systems (MAS) modelling of an ITS, the computation burden is large, as it involves the computation of the state changing of all the agents. Further, if we consider simulation based optimization, which can be simply understood as an intelligent way of running a number of micro-simulations, the computation burden is huge. Moreover, there are multiple objective optimization problems in the ITS. The Vector Ordinal Optimization (VOO) method is a powerful tool for multi-objective optimization. In this paper, we apply VOO to the problem of optimizing the stop times and delay time of an ITS. We test the method on a 4 intersection lattice road network, and on the 18 intersection road network of the Zhongguancun area of Beijing. Compared with the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) method, the VOO method can achieve a speedup of factor of more than 150, with only a little sacrifice of performance. © 2013 IEEE.
