In e-learning environment, Web-based testing system can help to evaluate learners learning status precisely. To meet the needs of multiple assessment criteria, a new test-sheet construction model was proposed. Based on the proposed model, a differential evolution algorithm with effective coding strategy was designed to generate high quality test-sheets for Web- based testing. In simulation experiments, the proposed algorithm was applied to a series of item banks with different scales. Superiority of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by comparing it with the simple genetic algorithm and differential evolution algorithm with binary coding strategy.

MIMO (multiple input multiple output) and OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) bringing along a number of pros; a combination of both stands a good possibility of being the next-generation (4th generation) of mobile wireless systems. The technology however imposes a challenge that is the increased complexity of channel equalization. Wireless channels are multipath fading channels, causing deformation in the signal. To remove the effect (imposed by channel) from received signal, the receiver needs to have knowledge of CIR (Channel impulse response) that is usually provided by a separate channel estimator. This paper is aimed at exploring the use of Neural Network (NN) as a tool for MIMO-OFDM channel estimation and compensation. The research attempts to gauges the usefulness of proposed system by analyzing different algorithms to train NN. Further to ascertain the performance of the proposed technique; length of the known training sequence has been varied over a reasonable range and observations are made. Finally, the results obtained by using different algorithms for training NN have been compared with each-other and against the traditional least squares channel estimator, which along with observations/comments form part of the paper.

This paper presents a comprehensive study on a number of hybrid test vector compression methods for VLSI circuit testing. In the proposed approaches, a software program is loaded into the on-chip processor memory along with the compressed test data sets. To minimize on-chip storage besides testing time, the test data volume is first reduced by compaction in a hybrid manner before downloading into the processor. The methods utilize a set of adaptive coding techniques for realizing lossless compression. The compaction program need not be loaded into the embedded processor, as only the decompression of test data is required for the automatic test equipment. The developed schemes necessitate minimal hardware overhead, while the on-chip embedded processor can be reused for normal operation on completion of testing. As an extension of the earlier works, this paper also reports further results on studies of the problem and demonstrates the feasibility of the suggested methodologies with simulation results on ISCAS 85 combinational and ISCAS 89 full scan sequential benchmark circuits.

We introduce cooperative fast protection (CFP) as a novel protection scheme in WDM networks. CFP achieves capacity-efficient fast protection with the features of node-autonomy and failure-independency. It differs from p-cycle by reusing the released working capacity of the disrupted lightpaths (i.e. stubs) in a cooperative manner. This is achieved by allowing all the failure-aware nodes to switch the traffic, such that the disrupted lightpaths can be protected even if the end nodes of the failed link are not on the protecting cycles. CFP also differs from FIPP p-cycle by not requiring the source node of the disrupted lightpath on the protecting cycle. By jointly optimizing both working and spare capacity placement, we formulate an ILP for CFP design. Numerical results show that CFP significantly outperforms p-cycle by achieving faster protection with much higher capacity efficiency.

This paper presents a novel action selection method for multi robot task sharing problem. Two autonomous mobile robots try to cooperate for push a box to a goal position. Both robots equipped with object and goal sensing, but do not have explicit communication ability. We explore the use of fuzzy signatures and decision making system to intention guessing and efficient action selection. Virtual reality simulation is used to build and test our proposed algorithm.

A logic fault test simulation environment for core-based digital systems is proposed in this paper. The simulation environment emulates a typical built-in self-test (BIST) environment with test pattern generator that sends its outputs to a circuit under test (CUT) and the output streams from the CUT are fed into a response data analyzer. The developed simulator is suitable for testing digital IP cores. The paper describes in details the test architecture and application of the logic fault simulator. Some partial simulation results on ISCAS 85 combinational and ISCAS 89 sequential benchmark circuits are provided.

In this paper,iterative learning control(ILC) is applied to network-based control problems in which communication channels are subject to random transport delay and data *** averaging ILC algorithm is used to overcome the random *** analysis,it is shown that ILC can perform well and achieve asymptotical convergence in ensemble average along the iteration axis,as far as the probability of the transmission delay and data dropout are known a priori.A unique contribution in this work is to illustrate the applicability of ILC to nonlinear systems while both the one-step delay and the data-dropout phenomena are taken into *** analysis and simulations validate the effectiveness of the ILC algorithm for network-based control tasks.

Service-oriented architecture can be considered as a philosophy or paradigm in organizing and utilizing services and capabilities that may be under the control of different ownership domains. Virtualization provides abstraction and isolation of lower level functionalities, enabling portability of higher level functions and sharing of physical resources. However, dynamics, environmental conditions and increasing complexity / heterogeneity of underlying resources call for adaptive resource handling. In this view an intelligent distributed architecture that enables dynamic user management and control on network-wide resource sharing by using the service oriented architecture concept is presented. Additionally, the proposed architecture supports trading of resources that will enable the transformation of traditional business models.

A framework to practically constitute a Distributed Virtual Reality (DVR) system on a heterogeneous high-speed network environment is shown. The proposed approach essentially integrates a 'haptic' channel into traditional vision and acoustic modalities. The haptic technology empowers the reality of the DVR system by allowing users to touch virtual objects. The human touch sensation, however, is very sensitive to delays and jitters;therefore, we propose a hybrid DVR architecture to realise both data consistency by client-server and scalability by peer-to-peer models on a long-haul network. Some experiments using a Korea-Japan high-speed research network are described to validate the proposed method. Copyright © 2009, Inderscience Publishers.
