Personalized medicine (PM) promises to transform healthcare by providingtreatments tailored to individual genetic, environmental, and lifestylefactors. However, its high costs and infrastructure demands raise concernsabout exacerbating health disparities, especially between high-income countries(HICs) and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). While HICs benefit fromadvanced PM applications through AI and genomics, LMICs often lack theresources necessary to adopt these innovations, leading to a wideninghealthcare divide. This paper explores the financial and ethical challenges ofPM implementation, with a focus on ensuring equitable access. It proposesstrategies for global collaboration, infrastructure development, and ethicalframeworks to support LMICs in adopting PM, aiming to prevent furtherdisparities in healthcare accessibility and outcomes. © 2024, CC BY.

Mass detection sensor Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) measures mass sensitivity by piezoelectric, high frequency shaving on nanograms. These sensors detect with high precise geometry, low cost and ease of production. Conventional QCM sensors are limited to one electrode structure that minimizes the range of sensing. On a single quartz crystal substrate, three new QCM Multi-Channel sensors are developed and optimized that include 2-channel, 3-channel and 4-channel QCM sensors. The COMSOL Multiphysics software is used to design and simulate the multi-channel sensors to enhance the device structure for applications with less interference frequency. From the results, it shows that the least interferences exhibit frequency values of 9.58MHz as both QCMs for the 5mm centre-to-centre (c2c). However, due to small c2c distances that decrease accuracy and operating disadvantages, this design was not selected. For 3 channel sensors, however, three resonant peaks show a similar value of 9.58MHz when c2c is maintained at 7mm. With the highest c2c distance this design shows less interference. Finally, for 4-channel sensors, a distance of 6 mm c2c also has a minimum interference with a 9.58 MHz resonance frequency. This shows that 4 channel sensors with the highest c2c can provide greater operational convenience and less interference at frequencies and thus maximize measurement accuracy. Multi-sensor arrays are advantageous when detecting a large number of analytes at the same time or when only selective coatings (coatings that respond to more than one analyte at the same time) are available. These sensor arrays, which use only one sensor and combine it with enhanced signal evaluation methods or prior sample separation to achieve the results of multi-sensor arrays, are becoming increasingly popular.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) technology research not only enhance communication but also communal skills in verbally challenged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). However, the research on AAC technology is mainly concentrated in developed countries and less explored in developing countries. In this study, we utilized evaluation method to analyze the prospects, existing practices and future possibilities, benefits and barriers of AAC research in developing countries. It is found that Speech Generating Devices (SGD) are mostly preferred by children and in future artificial intelligence (AI) based mobile application will augment communication skills among verbally challenged children. We conclude with general recommendation on succeeding research, collaborative approach and implementation with funding opportunities for substantial growth of AAC technology research in developing countries. This study will facilitate directions for initiating AAC research in developing countries and will accommodate researchers, developers and stakeholders to acknowledge opportunities, barriers, probable and current state of AAC research. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This research study provides an overview of the effort that went into developing reliable “Wireless sensor networks” for IoT applications, including both theoretical study and practical testing. The report also includes the findings of an analysis of variance and regression analysis, which pinpoint the significance of such aspects as network architecture, traffic load, and ambient conditions on the performance of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). Finally, study provides a discussion on the future research directions, as well as the design and implementation of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

The potential of IoT in contributing towards sustainable economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) through digital transformation and effective service delivery is widely accepted. However, the unreliability/unavailability of connectivity and power grid infrastructure as well as the unaffordability of the overall system hinders the implementation of a multi-layered IoT architecture for rural societal services in SSA. In this work, affordable IoT architecture that operates without reliance on broadband connectivity and power grid is developed. The architecture employs energy harvesting system and performs data processing, actuation decisions and network management locally by integrating a customized low-cost computationally capable device with the gateway. The sharing of this device among the water resource and quality management, healthcare and agriculture applications further reduces the overall system cost. The evaluation of LPWAN technologies reveals that LoRaWAN has lower cost with added benefits of adaptive data rate and largest community support while providing comparable performance and communication range with the other technologies. The relevant results of the analysis is communicated to end-users' mobile device via 2G/3G GPRS. Hence, the proposed IoT architecture enables the implementation of IoT systems for improving efficiency in three key application areas at low cost. © 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

The timeliness of status message delivery in communications networks is subjective to time-varying wireless channel transmissions. In this paper, we investigate the age of information (AoI) of each source in a multi-source M/G/1queueingupdatesystem with active server failures. In particular, we adopt the method of supplementary variables to derive a closed-form expression for the average AoI in terms of system parameters, where the server repair time follows a general distribution and the service time of packets generated by independent sources is a general random variable. Numerical results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed packet serving policy under different parametric settings. © 2022, CC BY.

Process mining is a powerful technique which uses an organization’s event data to extract and analyse process flow information and develop useful process models. However, it is difficult to apply process mining techniques to healthcare information due to factors relating to the complexity inherent in the healthcare domain and associated information systems. There are also challenges in understanding and meaningfully presenting results of process mining and problems relating to technical issues among the users. We propose a model based slicing approach based on dimensional modeling and ontological hierarchies that can be used to raise the level of abstraction during process mining, thereby more effectively dealing with the complexity and other issues. The Euler’s elastica energy regularizer, initially employed in mathematical and physical systems, has recently garnered much attention in image processing and computer vision tasks. While implicit surface reconstruction methods generally demonstrate superior robustness and ffexibility, the traditional methods rely on initialization and can easily become trapped in local minima. The Euler’s elastica term, on the other hand, has been found to share the advantages of both the TV regularization term and the curvature regularization term. In this paper, we aim to address the problems of missing details and complex computation in implicit 3D reconstruction by efffciently using the Euler’s elastica term. We propose a surface reconstruction model with the Euler’s elastica energy regularizer as well as a new dual method to simplify the model’s solution. Experimental results show that the proposed model can maintain the robustness and accuracy of existing variational surface reconstruction models while improving efffciency and model usability. © 2023, The Authors. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the 2 nd most prevalent neurodegenerative disease in the world. Thus, the early detection of PD has recently been the subject of several scientific and commercial studies. In this paper, we propose a pipeline using Vision Transformer applied to mel-spectrograms for PD classification using multilingual sustained vowel recordings. Furthermore, our proposed transformed-based model shows a great potential to use voice as a single modality biomarker for automatic PD detection without language restrictions, a wide range of vowels, with an F1-score equal to 0.78. The results of our study fall within the range of the estimated prevalence of voice and speech disorders in Parkinson’s disease, which ranges from 70-90%. Our study demonstrates a high potential for adaptation in clinical decision-making, allowing for increasingly systematic and fast diagnosis of PD with the potential for use in *** relevance— There is an urgent need to develop non invasive biomarker of Parkinson’s disease effective enough to detect the onset of the disease to introduce neuroprotective treatment at the earliest stage possible and to follow the results of that intervention. Voice disorders in PD are very frequent and are expected to be utilized as an early diagnostic biomarker. The voice analysis using deep neural networks open new opportunities to assess neurodegenerative diseases’ symptoms, for fast diagnosis-making, to guide treatment initiation, and risk prediction. The detection accuracy for voice biomarkers according to our method reached close to the maximum achievable value.
