This paper introduces a seven-level switched capacitor multilevel inverter that achieves triple voltage gain while reducing the number of components, employing a single DC source, two switched capacitors, and ten semiconductor switches. The War Strategy Optimization (WSO) algorithm is employed for selective harmonic elimination (SHE), enhancing switching angles with swift convergence and reducing total harmonic distortion (THD) to around 11 %. The inverter features built-in self-voltage balancing with zero voltage and zero current switchings (ZVS/ZCS), eliminating additional balancing circuits and minimizing inrush currents. The test results for 48 V input generates a maximum output voltage of 144 V at 50 Hz, under dynamic load and modulation conditions, validating the robustness of the design. Analysis indicates that the suggested SCMLI features a reduced peak inverse voltage (PIV) and necessitates fewer components, rendering it a more cost-effective option for high-power and renewable energy applications.

Recent advances in information technology have revolutionized the automotive industry, paving the way for next-generation smart vehicular mobility. Vehicles, roadside units, and other road users can collaborate to deliver novel services and applications. These services and applications require 1) massive volumes of heterogeneous and continuous data to perceive the environment, 2) reliable and low-latency communication networks, 3) real-time data processing that provides decision support under application-specific constraints. Addressing such constraints introduces significant challenges for current communication and computing technologies. Relatedly, the fifth generation of cellular networks (5G) was developed to respond to communication challenges by providing for low-latency, high-reliability, and high bandwidth communications. As a major part of 5G, edge computing allows data offloading and computation at the edge of the network, ensuring low-latency and context-awareness, and 5G efficiency. In this work, we aim at providing a comprehensive overview of the state of research on vehicular computing in the emerging age of 5G and big data. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The deployment of 6th Generation (6G) mobile networks will bring revolutionary changes to organizations and users through higher speeds, lower latency, and more intelligent network management. This will require more efficient spectrum sharing to improve network performance. Cognitive Radio (CR) can be employed to help achieve this goal. However, data collection at the fusion center for cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) creates a risk of sensing user (SU) data leakage. In this paper, an intelligent CSS algorithm for mobile communication is proposed based on Federated Learning with a Swin-Transformer. First, to achieve the cross-domain process, a Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) is used with the normalized time series data to obtain a time-frequency spectrum map with joint time-frequency features. Second, Federated Learning is employed to realize distributed CSS to reduce sensing overhead, improve the security of sensing data, and eliminate the SU data isolation with traditional distributed CSS. Then, a new Swin-Transformer spectrum sensing is proposed for fusion learning of the time-frequency spectrum map. The fusion of Federated Learning and Swin-Transformer neural network provides cooperation with multiple SUs to achieve efficient spectrum sensing using the K -rank fusion criterion. Compared with the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), ViT-Transformer, Graph Neural Network (GNN) and EfficientNet algorithms, the detection probability of the proposed algorithm has increased by 45 %, and the false alarm probability has decreased by 13 %.

Purpose: Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is a method of activating paralyzed muscles. During FES application, fast muscle fatigue can occur (the inability of stimulated muscles to generate force). Therefore, it is beneficial to estimate the muscle fatigue for FES closed-loop control for walking to prevent unexpected muscle collapse and adapt the FES strategy in real time. Mechanomyography (MMG) is a noninvasive technique for registering myofiber vibrations, representing an ideal candidate for the provision of feedback. The hypothesis was that MMG signals could effectively detect muscle fatigue and, thus, provide feedback. Methods: We tested this hypothesis by analyzing the wavelet transform of signals from an MMG sensor positioned over the rectus femoris muscle during electrically evoked contractions in subjects with spinal cord injury (SCI). The signals were collected from a total of 24 lower limb muscles. We investigated both legs of 15 participants with spinal cord injury (male, YOA = 27.13 ± 5.05, M = 75.8 ± 10.35 kg, and H = 1.78 ± 0.07 m, American Spinal Injury Impairment Scale (AIS) A and B). All MMG signals were analyzed in 12 frequency bands from 5 to 53 Hz. Results: We found different trends in the magnitudes in different frequency bands. The magnitude decreased in 13, 16, 20, 25, and 35 Hz bands in correlation with fatigue. The greatest statistical difference was found at 20 Hz and 25 Hz. Conclusion: This result suggests that processed MMG signals indicate muscle fatigue and can, thus, be used as the feedback in FES systems. © 2020, Sociedade Brasileira de Engenharia Biomedica.

As the amount of data that needs to be processed in real-time due to recent application developments increase, the need for a new computing paradigm is required. Edge computing resolves this issue by offloading computing resources required by intelligent transportation systems such as the Internet of Vehicles from the cloud closer to the end devices to improve performance however, it is susceptible to security issues that make the transportation systems vulnerable to attackers. In addition to this, there are security issues in transportation technologies that impact the edge computing paradigm as well. This paper presents some of the main security issues and challenges that are present in edge computing, which are Distributed Denial of Service attacks, side channel attacks, malware injection attacks and authentication and authorization attacks, how these impact intelligent transportation systems and research being done to help realize and mitigate these issues. © 2020, CC BY.

The distributed road traffic simulation is an important tool for control and analysis of large road traffic networks (e.g., an entire city or even state). For performing the simulation, it is necessary to divide the simulated road traffic network into sub networks, which are then simulated as processes on computers (nodes) of the distributed computer. To ensure a good performance of the distributed road traffic simulation, two aspects should be considered during the division of the road traffic network - the load-balancing of the resulting sub-networks and the minimization of the inter process communication [1, 2]. Legacy transportation systems are among the most important systems that need to be addressed in a proper manner. Congestion is considered as one of the common problems, especially during peak times of the day because of the weakness of the absorptive capacity of the roads network and the inefficiency of the transportation system to meet the required demands of the increasing traffic size

Thresholded non-uniform fourier frame-based reconstruction for stripmap SAR

Fourier domain methods are fast algorithms for SAR imaging. They typically involve an interpolation in the frequency domain to re-grid non-uniform data so inverse fast Fourier transforms can be performed. In this paper, we apply a frame reconstruction algorithm, extending the non-uniform fast Fourier transform, to stripmap SAR data. Further, we present an improved thresholded frame reconstruction algorithm for robust performance and improved computational efficiency. We demonstrate compelling results on real stripmap SAR data.
