Recently, cloud radio access network (C-RAN) with caching as a service (CaaS) was proposed to merge the functionalities of communication, computing, and caching (CCC) together. In this paper, we dissect the interactions of CCC in C-RAN with CaaS from two dimensions: physical resource dimension and time dimension. In the physical resource dimension, we identify how to segment the baseband unit (BBU) pool resources (i.e., computation and storage) into different types of virtual machines (VMs). In the time dimension, we address how the long-term resource segmentation in the BBU pool impacts on the short-term transmit beamforming at the remote radio heads. We formulate the problem as a stochastic mixed-integer nonlinear programming (SMINLP) to minimize the system cost, including the server cost, VM cost and wireless transmission cost. After a series of approximation, including sample average approximation, successive convex approximation, and semidefinite relaxation, the SMINLP is approximated as a global consensus problem. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is utilized to obtain the solution in a parallel fashion. Simulation results verify the convergence of our proposed algorithm, and also confirm that the proposed scheme is more cost-saving than that without considering the integration of CCC. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

The ever growing space between the high-speed processor and slower main memory has always remained a performance bottleneck. Attempts have been made to address this challenge through the advent of smarter memories, an improved memory hierarchy, and deployment of high speed bus controllers. Another important dimension is to add cache units to the processor in order to benefit from the temporal and spatial, and even instruction locality and therefore, reduce the processormemory gap that ultimately results in a performance boost. In this paper, we demonstrate that increasing the cache size in order to reduce the capacity based misses results in further optimizing the performance. This results in increasing the associativity and block size and thus, reduce the conflict and compulsory based misses. We discuss the cache parameters set to achieve the minimum miss rate for the simpleScaler suite including Rijndael, Sha, Compress, Go, and Dijkstra benchmarks. Explicitly, we reduce the miss rate by using different cache configurations such as increasing the cache size, altering the block size, and varying the associativity. Notably, we achieve a minimal possible miss rate for the Rijndael benchmark, which is 10 4 . The results show the validity of an n size cache and x associativity, which is equal to an n/2 cache size and 2x associativity - 2: 1 cache rule of thumb.

In September 2017, the McAfee Labs quarterly report estimated that brute-force attacks represent 20% of total network attacks, making them the most prevalent type of attack ex-aequo with browser-based vulnerabilities. These attacks have sometimes catastrophic consequences, and understanding their fundamental limits may play an important role in the risk assessment of password-secured systems and in the design of better security protocols. While some solutions exist to prevent online brute-force attacks that arise from one single IP address, attacks performed by botnets are more challenging. In this paper, we analyze these distributed attacks by using a simplified model. Our aim is to understand the impact of distribution and asynchronization on the overall computational effort necessary to breach a system. Our result is based on guesswork, a measure of the number of queries (guesses) before a correct sequence, such as a password, is found in an optimal attack. Guesswork is a direct surrogate for time and computational effort of guessing a sequence from a set of sequences with the associated likelihoods. We model the lack of synchronization by a worst-case optimization in which the queries made by multiple adversarial agents are received in the worst possible order for the adversary, resulting in a min-max formulation. We show that, even without synchronization, and for sequences of growing length, the asymptotic optimal performance is achievable by using randomized guesses drawn from an appropriate distribution. Therefore, randomization is key for the distributed asynchronous attacks. In other words, asynchronous guessers can asymptotically perform brute-force attacks as efficiently as synchronized guessers. © 2019 IEEE.

We envision that in the future, presentations for business, education, and scientific dissemination can invoke 3D spatial content to immersively display and discuss animated 3-dimensional models and spatial data visualizations to large audiences. At the moment, current frameworks have targeted a highly technical user base, prohibiting the widespread curation of immersive presentations. Furthermore, solutions for real-time multi-user interactions have focused on multiplayer gaming, rather than large format immersive presentation. However, modern mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, headsets) have the capability of rendering virtual models over the physical environment through visual anchors for Augmented Reality (AR). Our ongoing research thrust is to leverage contemporary AR infrastructure to develop an easy-to use tool for users to curate and spatially present augmented presentations to large audiences. In this demo, we have built an Augmented Reality framework that allows users to curate mixed reality presentations. Our framework allows users to prepare a sequential state of animations. At the time of presentation, presenters can invoke the animations to simultaneously occur on HMDs and mobile devices.

A secure and reliable image encryption scheme is presented in this study. The encryption scheme hereby introduces a novel chaotic log-map, deep convolution neural network (CNN) model for key generation, and bit reversion operation for the manipulation process. Thanks to the sensitive key generation, initial values and control parameters are produced for the hyperchaotic log-map, and thus a diverse chaotic sequence is achieved for encrypting operations. The scheme then encrypts the images by scrambling and manipulating the pixels of images through four operations: permutation, DNA encoding, diffusion, and bit reversion. The encryption scheme is precisely examined for the well-known images in terms of various analyses such as keyspace, key sensitivity, information entropy, histogram, correlation, differential attack, noisy attack, and cropping attack. To corroborate the scheme, the visual and numerical results are even compared with available outcomes of the state of the art. Therefore, the proposed log-map based image encryption scheme is successfully verified and validated by the superior absolute and comparative results. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. ABSTRACTABSTRACTThe term metaverse is described as the next iteration of the Internet. Metaverse is a virtual platform that uses extended reality technologies, i.e. augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality, 3D graphics, and other emerging technologies to allow real-time interactions and experiences in ways that are not possible in the physical world. Companies have begun to notice the impact of the metaverse and how it may help maximize profits. The purpose of this paper is to offer perspectives on several important areas, i.e. marketing, tourism, manufacturing, operations management, education, the retailing industry, banking services, healthcare, and human resource management that are likely to be impacted by the adoption and use of a metaverse. Each includes an overview, opportunities, challenges, and a potential research agenda.

We present a novel approach for fabricating cable-driven robotic systems. Particularly, we show that a biomimetic finger featuring accurate bone geometry, ligament structures, and viscoelastic tendons can be synthesized as a single part using a mutli-material 3D printer. This fabrication method eliminates the need to engineer an interface between the rigid skeletal structure and elastic tendon system. The artificial muscles required to drive the printed tendons of the finger can also be printed in place. MuJoCo, a physics simulation engine which can be used to generate control strategies, is used to develop a model of the non-linear platform. A physical test bed is used to compare the simulation results to a printed prototype. This lays the groundwork for a new robotics design approach, where the fabrication and assembly is automated.

Detecting emotion from facial expression has become an urgent need because of its immense applications in artificial intelligence such as human-computer collaboration, data-driven animation, human-robot communication etc. Since it is a demanding and interesting problem in computer vision, several works had been conducted regarding this topic. The objective of this research is to develop a facial expression recognition system based on convolutional neural network with data augmentation. This approach enables to classify seven basic emotions consist of angry, disgust, fear, happy, neutral, sad and surprise from image data. Convolutional neural network with data augmentation leads to higher validation accuracy than the other existing models (which is 96.24%) as well as helps to overcome their limitations.

This paper proposes a process of Handwritten Character Recognition to recognize and convert images of individual Bangla handwritten characters into electronically editable format, which will create opportunities for further research and can also have various practical applications. The dataset used in this experiment is the BanglaLekha-Isolated dataset [1]. Using Convolutional Neural Network, this model achieves 91.81% accuracy on the alphabets (50 character classes) on the base dataset, and after expanding the number of images to 200,000 using data augmentation, the accuracy achieved on the test set is 95.25%. The model was hosted on a web server for the ease of testing and interaction with the model. Furthermore, a comparison with other machine learning approaches is presented.

Computed tomography (CT) plays an increasingly important role in clinical diagnosis. However, in practical applications of CT, physical limitations on acquisition lead to some blind regions where data cannot be sampled. CT image reconstruction from limited-angle would enable a rapid scanning with a reduced x-ray dose delivered to the patient. As it is known, Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) can keep the original information and details of the sample very well. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end Generative Adversarial Networks model used for removing artifacts from limited-angle CT reconstruction images. The proposed GAN is based on the conditional GAN with the joint loss function, which .can remove the artifacts while retaining the complete details and sharp edges. The intensity of reconstruction using the proposed method is very close to the full-view projective reconstructed image. Compared to several other classic methods, our GAN model shows better consequent, in terms of artifact reduction, feature preservation, and computational efficiency for limited-angle CT reconstruction.
