Neurological disorders are often characterized by abnormal neuronal activity. In the case of epilepsy, this can manifest itself in the form of uncontrolled synchronous activity often in the form of bursting. Pattern steering is the ability to apply stimulation to a network that effectively changes its dynamical firing pattern. In an epileptic network, the stimulation would be used to move the seizing network from its abnormal state to a normal state. This idea is explored here in cultured networks of cortical neurons plated on microelectrode arrays. Stimulation was applied to the bath resulting in an electric field generated throughout the network. This field was verified as sub-threshold in strength using a finite element model simulation. Stimulated networks showed a significant suppression in the number of bursts and increase in the interburst interval as compared to control networks. This observed burst suppression suggests that the sub-threshold stimulating field moved networks from a state of high frequency bursting to a state of low frequency bursting.

In this paper, we propose a novel shape-theoretic framework for dynamical analysis of human movement from 3D data. The key idea we propose is the use of global descriptors of the shape of the dynamical attractor as a feature for modeling actions. We apply this approach to the novel application scenario of estimation of movement quality from a single-marker for future usage in home-based stroke rehabilitation. Using a dataset collected from 15 stroke survivors performing repetitive task therapy, we demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms traditional methods, such as kinematic analysis and use of chaotic invariants, in estimation of movement quality. In addition, we demonstrate that the proposed framework is sufficiently general for the application of action and gesture recognition as well. Our experimental results reflect improved action recognition results on two publicly available 3D human activity databases.

It has a lot of applications especially medical imaging and remote sensing. The main purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive review of existing literatures available on image registration system and proposed a new feature-based IR technique using edge of images. We used edges as a feature of images for registration. It will be a useful document for researchers who will work on feature-based image registration regardless for specific applications.

Word recognition testing may be defined as a procedure to assess a listener’s ability to identify one-syllable words (such as phonetically-balanced/PB words) that are presented at a given suprathreshold level to arrive at a word recognition score. For Thai, Thammasat University and Ramathibodi Hospital Phonetically Balanced Word Lists 2015 (TU-RAMA PB’15) were created with five lists, each with 25 monosyllabic words. Besides its phoneme distributions being based on large-scale Thai spoken corpora, TU-RAMA PB’15 is in line with TU PB’14 with emphasis on phonetic balance, symmetrical phoneme occurrence, and word familiarity. To evaluate its homogeneity in terms of decibel intelligibility, the lists were recorded and presented to 10 normal hearing participants, ranging from 0 to 50 dB HL in 2 dB increments (ascending order) until they repeated correct verbal responses. Using logistic regression, regression slopes and intercepts were calculated to estimate percentage of correct performance at any given intensity and to construct psychometric functions for every list. Derived psychometric function slopes ranged from 0.2015 to 0.2262 while intensities required for 50% intelligibility ranged from 17.0876 to 20.8856. Two-way Chi-Square analysis performed on both parameters indicated that there was no significant difference among the five lists.
