Conversion of Traditional Face-to-Face MLS Hematology Courses Into Remote Delivery

The design of a hybrid Hematology I course (prepandemic) was adopted for Hematology II and facilitated our conversion of Hematology II into a fully remote course by fall 2020, after the university went into remote instruction. When the university suspended face-to-face (F2F) classes in March 2020, only the laboratory final exam was pending for Hematology I, and it was therefore administered remotely. Because students had taken another F2F practical exam before lockdown, we were able to compare the two. There was a significant difference between the practical examination grades for the online versus F2F exams: 94% vs. 77% mean scores, respectively. However, there was no difference between the written portion of the exams. In this article, we report the final lab and lecture grades for both courses. In spring 2021, our students completed their clinical practicums with our hospital affiliates and received scores of ≥ 90%. We also report the performance of students who sat for the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (BOC) examination for medical laboratory scientists. All students who appeared in the BOC examination performed satisfactorily in the hematology subdiscipline. These external assessments are positive objective benchmarks for our courses and students. © 2023 National science Teaching Association.

Recently, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) has been deployed for power demand distribution and energy saving, and correspondingly traditional watt-hour meters installed in apartments and industrial sites are also being replaced with AMIs. Accordingly, power demand prediction using AMIs will become increasingly important to save electrical energy consumption. In this paper, we develop various deep learning-based electricity consumption prediction models using simple neural networks, convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, and encoder-decoder-based generative models. To build prediction models, we use average power demand data collected from various home smart meters. Experimental results show that the generative model outperforms other deep learning-based models in terms of mean squared error, and we roughly explain why the generative model is better than other models by examining the activation layer output distributions. © 2022 Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers. Schizophrenia is a neurological disorder known for its potential to disrupt brain function and cause erratic behavior. Timely diagnosis and intervention are crucial for improving patient outcomes. This paper conducts a comprehensive comparative study of three machine learning models: Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Random Forest (RF) to classify EEG signals associated with schizophrenia. The dataset utilized in this study comprises EEG data obtained from 28 individuals, data preprocessing techniques, including artifact removal, filtering, and normalization, were applied to enhance data quality. A set of informative statistical features was extracted from the EEG signals to capture relevant information. The three machine learning models are trained and evaluated using various performance metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and Area Under the Curve (AUC). Random Forest achieved the highest accuracy (96%), while SVM demonstrated strong precision and recall (95%). These findings highlight the potential of machine learning in aiding early schizophrenia diagnosis through EEG signal analysis. © 2024 IEEE.

Health development is one part of national development. Telemedical is an innovation in engineering and computing application technology healthcare in the era of society 5.0 is needed as a supporting tool. The purpose of this paper is to explain the benefits and threats of using telemedicine in the field of psychiatry in the care system. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, data collection by literature study, which is a method that explains a phenomenon regarding the benefits and threats of telemedicine in psychiatric services. Telepsychiatry is a health service carried out by mental medicine specialists using information and communication technology to diagnose, treat and estimate the patient's health condition in accordance with their ability and authority as evidenced by the validity of the Registration Certificate (STR) and Practice Permit (SIP) while maintaining service quality and patient safety. Telepsychiatry is carried out by mental medicine specialists with other doctors, or mental medicine specialists with patients in a Health Service Facility (Fasyankes), or between Fasyankes. As a result of the dialogue, Telepsychiatry has demonstrated significant cost-effectiveness and efficiency as a viable option to conventional psychiatric services, increasing accessibility for patients seeking providers. Innovative advances in the field of mental healthcare technology solutions have the potential to provide substantial benefits to recipients and stakeholders. Threats to telemedicine, including telepsychiatry, include misuse of patients' personal data by employees or hacking by cybercriminals for purposes that jeopardise the security of patients and the country. Special attention should be paid to the problem of misuse and hacking of patient data in telemedicine by individuals and hackers. © 2023 IEEE.

'Society 5.0' is characterized as a high degree of integration of cyberspace and physical space capable of promoting economic growth and addressing social problems in a modern information society based on cutting-edge technology advancements for data processing and knowledge creation. Recent developments in the field of biotechnology have been demonstrated by gene editing techniques, especially CRISPR-Cas9, such as basic research, applied biotechnology, and biomedical research Most biotechnology is essentially 'dual use' because its development can result in both profitable and nefarious goals, all depending on the perspective and motivation of the perpetrator. The purpose of this research is a better understanding of biosecurity, biosecurity, and bioterrorism threats, so as to provide a foundation for policymakers, researchers, and health professionals to improve global health security so as to realize effective biodefense systems. The research was conducted by library research, namely data collection with literature studies. By implementing biosafety and biosecurity laboratory measures in accordance with established guidelines and guidelines can help protect people, animals, the environment, and national security. medical intelligence is vital to monitoring and assessing the threat of bioterrorism through the process of data collection, which is then analyzed, and data dissemination. Cybersecurity threats affect all sectors of the economy, especially the chemical industry. The chemical industry is a critical infrastructure vulnerable to cyberattacks. In addition to financial and reputational losses, they can also cause serious accidents (such as loss of control of hazardous materials) with serious consequences for workers, society, and the environment. Industrial control panel systems are typically embedded in a variety of physical devices. The safety of control systems is crucial for ensuring the secure functioning of industrial chemical processes. Nevertheless, the susceptibility of control systems to cyber-attacks has intensified due to the extensive deployment of actuators, sensor measurements, and wireless communications. These attacks have the potential to propagate swiftly and result in severe industrial accidents. This study was conducted as part of a systematic literature review. The purpose of this study is to analyze cybersecurity threats to the chemical industry. Research shows that although cyber attacks are highly vulnerable to the chemical industry, they can be detected through neural network-based integration (NN) without having to know the process model when large quantities of historical data are available and easy to apply. It has been shown that it can be done. It is hoped that the policy recommendations obtained from this research will provide more effective guidelines for protecting the chemical industry from the risks of cyber threats. © 2023 IEEE.

The utilization of laser technology in medicine has transformed healthcare, providing precise and minimally invasive solutions for various medical conditions. The paper's thorough analysis of a laser weapon's damage capacity, considering spot power and size through a finite elements model (FEM), offers valuable insights for future research in related fields. Various research articles cover diverse topics such as nociceptors, skin temperature distribution, and laser-tissue interaction. Initially, the paper outlines the advantages, challenges, and best practices of laser medical technology, emphasizing the importance of integrating cutting-edge advancements. The paper introduces an innovative approach that combines burn theory and medical anatomy principles with practical tactical considerations. The paper introduces and validates a 5-layer FEM for the outer skin, employing anatomical insights and advanced equations. Through the reconstruction of temperature profiles and precise addressing of necrotic tissue distribution from a 1064 nm laser, the study determines maximum permissible human exposure as 8.93 J/cm2, 8.29 J/cm2, and 8.17 J/cm2 for spot diameters of 5 mm, 10 mm, and 15 mm, respectively. The presented findings offer crucial guidance for future military research. © 2023 IEEE.

Armed conflicts occur in various parts of the world and result in many casualties and material losses. Weapons of mass destruction are one of the most feared weapons, along with the emergence of chemical, nuclear, radiological, biological, and explosive weapons. The use of weapons of mass destruction is prohibited, but their production is still uncontrolled making it possible for various parties such as terrorists, to easily use available chemical weapons raw materials such as triacetone triperoxide (TATP) bombs and the like. In addition, chemical weapons whose distribution in liquid or gas form is not regulated by the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) can cause long-term damage, such as the risk of permanent burns or long-term illness and even infect victims after they expire. Of course, these cases represent a threat to national security due to the irresponsible availability of chemicals to the public or what are called man-made disasters. Therefore, similar incidents need to be avoided to minimize the damage they cause. Society 5.0 can leverage information and communication technology to strengthen early detection systems and prompt responses to terrorist threats involving the misuse of chemicals as chemical weapons. This research was conducted through a systematic literature review in the form identifying, assessing, and interpreting all findings on a research topic to answer research question. The aim of this research is to analyze strategies for preventing chemicals used as chemical weapons through controlling Law Number 9 of 2008. The results of the research show that the rules regarding the control and supervision of chemicals used as chemical weapons are still being enforcedand ineffective. Indonesia in general is still vulnerable to the circulation of chemicals. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize the role of all relevant stakeholders in forming and controlling the Indonesian chemical industry against the threat of dual use. © 2023 IEEE.

Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) pose a significant threat to public health due to their ability to cause various diseases. The emergence and evolution of superbugs have been accelerated by existing drug conservation policies, hindering the development of novel antibiotics. As a result, researchers are focusing on understanding disease causation pathways and developing advanced classes of antibiotics. Despite challenges related to transparency, regulations, ethics, and technical limitations, technology such as MDRO Dual Use Quickscan shows promise in combating MDRO-based threats. This work presents a web-based tools design that incorporates a data-driven framework and utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to detect potential cases of dual-use research involving MDROs. A comprehensive literature review identified 15 questions relevant for evaluating MDRO dual-use research using the Quickscan tool. The Quickscan can be developed as a valuable tool for assessing the potential dual-use characteristics of MDRO research. It is recommended that expert opinions guide risk management in biologics and address potential perilous scenarios arising from dual-use activities. Artificial intelligence models, natural language processing techniques, and binary classification algorithms are suggested as viable options for detecting and assessing dual-use traits associated with MDROs. However, human supervision and assessment remain critical for interpreting outcomes and making informed decisions. © 2023 IEEE.

With the advancement of technology, information systems have become increasingly necessary in almost all areas, including healthcare. One of the technologies used to facilitate this progress is electronic medical records (EMRs). Although EMRs have improved service delivery and patient care in healthcare, they also pose risks to patient data due to cybercrime attacks, which can result in data theft and alteration of medical records. medical identity theft has become a major issue in healthcare systems around the world, While technology has been beneficial in improving service delivery and patient care in healthcare, it has also introduced numerous risks to patient safety and ultimately impacted patient health. Cybersecurity issues have advanced with technology, thus increasing the rate at which medical identity thefts occur. The healthcare industry lags in curbing cybersecurity issues, and thus, it is vulnerable to many cyberattacks. To address these risks, techniques, and methods are needed to ensure the security of EMR systems against cybercrime attacks. This study used a literature review method and identified eleven articles that met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Through analysis of these articles, several techniques and methods were identified to secure the privacy system in EMRs, such as mIBE-AES, DES, and RSA methods. The literature review revealed that Encryption Data is the safest technique to use, as it is standardized, widely accessible, and cost-effective. Furthermore, mIBE-AES is the safest method for EMRs because it is both secure and efficient for storing medical record documents. Performance evaluations were conducted to test the level of security against cybercrime attacks. © 2023 IEEE.
