Objective:The annual influenza epidemic is a heavy burden on the health care system,and has increasingly become a major public health problem in some areas,such as Hong Kong(China).Therefore,based on a variety of machine learning methods,and considering the seasonal influenza in Hong Kong,the study aims to establish a Combinatorial Judgment Classifier(CJC)model to classify the epidemic trend and improve the accuracy of influenza epidemic early warning.

Dear Editor,Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex(PDHc) is a large multienzyme assembly(Mr = 4–10 million Daltons) consisting of three essential components: pyruvate dehydrogenase(E1p), dihydrolipoyl transacetylase(E2p), and dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenase(E3). These three enzymes perform distinct functions sequentially to catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate with formation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NADH) and acetyl-coenzyme A(Patel and Roche, 1990).

Federated feature selection (FFS) is a promising field for selecting informative features while preserving data privacy in federated learning (FL) settings. Existing FFS methods focus on capturing the correlations between features and labels. They struggle to achieve satisfactory performance in the face of data distribution heterogeneity among FL clients, and cannot address the out-of-distribution (OOD) problem that arises when a significant portion of clients do not actively participate in FL training. To address these limitations, we propose Federated Causally Invariant Feature Learning (FedCIFL), a novel approach for learning causally invariant features in a privacy-preserving manner. We design a sample reweighting strategy to eliminate spurious correlations introduced by selection bias and iteratively estimate the federated causal effect between each feature and the labels (with the remaining features initially treated as confounders). By iteratively refining the confounding feature set to identify the true confounders, FedCIFL mitigates the impact of limited local data on the accuracy of federated causal effect estimation. Theoretical analysis proves the correctness of FedCIFL under reasonable assumptions. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of FedCIFL against eight state-of-the-art baselines, beating the best-performing approach by 3.19%, 9.07% and 2.65% in terms of average test Accuracy, RMSE and F1 score, respectively. DAMPER: A Dual-Stage medical Report Generation Framework with Coarse-Grained MeSH Alignment and Fine-Grained Hypergraph Matching

medical report generation is crucial for clinical diagnosis and patient management, summarizing diagnoses and recommendations based on medical imaging. However, existing work often overlook the clinical pipeline involved in report writing, where physicians typically conduct an initial quick review followed by a detailed examination. Moreover, current alignment methods may lead to misaligned relationships. To address these issues, we propose DAMPER, a dual-stage framework for medical report generation that mimics the clinical pipeline of report writing in two stages. In the first stage, a MeSH-Guided Coarse-Grained Alignment (MCG) stage that aligns chest X-ray (CXR) image features with medical subject headings (MeSH) features to generate a rough keyphrase representation of the overall impression. In the second stage, a Hypergraph-Enhanced Fine-Grained Alignment (HFG) stage that constructs hypergraphs for image patches and report annotations, modeling high-order relationships within each modality and performing hypergraph matching to capture semantic correlations between image regions and textual phrases. Finally,the coarse-grained visual features, generated MeSH representations, and visual hypergraph features are fed into a report decoder to produce the final medical report. Extensive experiments on public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of DAMPER in generating comprehensive and accurate medical reports, outperforming state-of-the-art methods across various evaluation metrics. From Missing Pieces to Masterpieces: Image Completion with Context-Adaptive Diffusion

Image completion is a challenging task, particularly when ensuring that generated content seamlessly integrates with existing parts of an image. While recent diffusion models have shown promise, they often struggle with maintaining coherence between known and unknown (missing) regions. This issue arises from the lack of explicit spatial and semantic alignment during the diffusion process, resulting in content that does not smoothly integrate with the original image. Additionally, diffusion models typically rely on global learned distributions rather than localized features, leading to inconsistencies between the generated and existing image parts. In this work, we propose ConFill, a novel framework that introduces a Context-Adaptive Discrepancy (CAD) model to ensure that intermediate distributions of known and unknown regions are closely aligned throughout the diffusion process. By incorporating CAD, our model progressively reduces discrepancies between generated and original images at each diffusion step, leading to contextually aligned completion. Moreover, ConFill uses a new Dynamic Sampling mechanism that adaptively increases the sampling rate in regions with high reconstruction complexity. This approach enables precise adjustments, enhancing detail and integration in restored areas. Multi-Granularity Prosodic Speech Synthesis with Grammar Information

Personalized speech synthesis involves learning an individual's unique speaking patterns from a reference audio to generate speech that mimics the speaker's habitual rhythm. However, the one-to-many mapping between text and speech, combined with the dynamic nature of personalized speech style characteristics in the reference audio, poses significant challenges for accurate personalized speech synthesis. In this paper, we propose a Grammar Infused Multi-granularity Prosody Network (GMG ProsodyNet) for personalized speech synthesis. Specifically, 1) We model prosodic features hierarchically at the levels of utterance, content syntax, word, and phoneme. We utilize the utterance-level prosodic feature to guide the prediction of fine-grained prosodic features according to the hierarchical property of prosodic features. We introduce a context syntax encoder to improve the prediction accuracy of duration, pitch, and energy characteristics in the synthesized audio. The proposed word-level prosodic encoder can efficiently extract valuable pitch dynamic and speech continuity features from the word spectrum. For controlling subtle prosodic nuances, we employ phoneme-level prosodic modeling. 2) We extract syntax level prosodic features from the syntax graph constructed by Graph Neural Network (GNN) with word as node, exploiting grammatical dependencies between distant words. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed GMG ProsodyNet can effectively encode delicate and personalized prosodic features, leading to improved speech synthesis quality, fluency, and naturalness. © 2024, The Authors. Preserving Location Privacy of IoT Devices in Heterogeneous Edge computing Architecture Through Deniability-Based Authentication

Edge computing moves cloud services closer to consumer Internet of Things (IoT) devices, reducing latency and bandwidth usage. This setup enables faster responses but also introduces new security challenges, particularly concerning location privacy when sender and receiver use different security techniques. The authentication process in such architectures can expose the location of IoT devices. To address this issue, researchers have proposed various privacy-preserving schemes. However, these are computationally heavy for IoT devices. To tackle this issue, we propose two novel heterogeneous deniable authentication schemes: HDA-IoT-I and HDA-IoT-II. These schemes use public-key infrastructure and identity-based cryptography to protect the location privacy of IoT devices in heterogeneous edge computing environments. Our schemes enable the designated edge device to verify the source of a message without being able to prove its origin to a third party, thus preserving privacy. Additionally, they incorporate a batch verification method, which speeds up the verification of multiple deniable authenticators. The proposed schemes are formally proven secure in the random oracle model based on the hardness assumption of elliptic curve inverse computational Diffie-Hellman problem. The performance evaluation demonstrate that our schemes significantly enhance computational and communication efficiency, making them suitable for IoT devices. © 2025 IEEE.

OBJECTIVES: Early diagnosis of triple-negative (TN) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 positive (HER2+) breast cancer is important due to its increased risk of micrometastatic spread necessitating early treatment and for guiding targeted therapies. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of machine learning (ML) classification of newly diagnosed breast masses into TN versus non-TN (NTN) and HER2+ versus HER2 negative (HER2-) breast cancer, using radiomic features extracted from grayscale ultrasound (US) b-mode images. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective chart review identified 88 female patients who underwent diagnostic breast US imaging, had confirmation of invasive malignancy on pathology and receptor status determined on immunohistochemistry available. The patients were classified as TN, NTN, HER2+ or HER2- for ground-truth labelling. For image analysis, breast masses were manually segmented by a breast radiologist. Radiomic features were extracted per image and used for predictive modelling. Supervised ML classifiers included: logistic regression, k-nearest neighbour, and Naïve Bayes. Classification performance measures were calculated on an independent (unseen) test set. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity (%), and specificity (%) were reported for each classifier. RESULTS: The logistic regression classifier demonstrated the highest AUC: 0.824 (sensitivity: 81.8%, specificity: 74.2%) for the TN sub-group and 0.778 (sensitivity: 71.4%, specificity: 71.6%) for the HER2 sub-group. CONCLUSION: ML classifiers demonstrate high diagnostic accuracy in classifying TN versus NTN and HER2+ versus HER2- breast cancers using US images. Identification of more aggressive breast cancer subtypes early in the diagnostic process could help achieve better prognoses by prioritizing clinical referral and prompting adequate early treatment. © 2023 - IOS Press. This article investigates the adaptive resource allocation scheme for digital twin (DT) synchronization optimization over dynamic wireless networks. In our considered model, a base station (BS) continuously collects factory physical object state data from wireless devices to build a real-time virtual DT system for factory event analysis. Due to continuous data transmission, maintaining DT synchronization must use extensive wireless resources. To address this issue, a subset of devices is selected to transmit their sensing data, and resource block (RB) allocation is optimized. This problem is formulated as a constrained Markov process (CMDP) problem that minimizes the long-term mismatch between the physical and virtual systems. To solve this CMDP, we first transform the problem into a dual problem that refines RB constraint impacts on device scheduling strategies. We then propose a continual reinforcement learning (CRL) algorithm to solve the dual problem. The CRL algorithm learns a stable policy across historical experiences for quick adaptation to dynamics in physical states and network capacity. Simulation results show that the CRL can adapt quickly to network capacity changes and reduce normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) between physical and virtual states by up to 55.2%, using the same RB number as traditional methods. © 2025 IEEE. View-decoupled Transformer for Person Re-identification under Aerial-ground Camera Network

Existing person re-identification methods have achieved remarkable advances in appearance-based identity association across homogeneous cameras, such as ground-ground matching. However, as a more practical scenario, aerial-ground person re-identification (AGPReID) among heterogeneous cameras has received minimal attention. To alleviate the disruption of discriminative identity representation by dramatic view discrepancy as the most significant challenge in AGPReID, the view-decoupled transformer (VDT) is proposed as a simple yet effective framework. Two major components are designed in VDT to decouple view-related and view-unrelated features, namely hierarchical subtractive separation and orthogonal loss, where the former separates these two features inside the VDT, and the latter constrains these two to be independent. In addition, we contribute a large-scale AGPReID dataset called CARGO, consisting of five/eight aerial/ground cameras, 5,000 identities, and 108,563 images. Experiments on two datasets show that VDT is a feasible and effective solution for AGPReID, surpassing the previous method on mAP/Rank1 by up to 5.0%/2.7% on CARGO and 3.7%/5.2% on AG-ReID, keeping the same magnitude of computational complexity.
