Vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs)provide intelligent navigation and efficient route management,resulting in time savings and cost reductions in the transportation ***,the exchange of beacons and messages over public channels among vehicles and roadside units renders these networks vulnerable to numerous attacks and privacy *** address these challenges,several privacy and security preservation protocols based on blockchain and public key cryptography have been proposed ***,most of these schemes are limited by a long execution time and massive communication costs,which make them inefficient for on-board units(OBUs).Additionally,some of them are still susceptible to many *** such,this study presents a novel protocol based on the fusion of elliptic curve cryptography(ECC)and bilinear pairing(BP)*** formal security analysis is accomplished using the Burrows–Abadi–Needham(BAN)logic,demonstrating that our scheme is verifiably *** proposed scheme’s informal security assessment also shows that it provides salient security features,such as non-repudiation,anonymity,and ***,the scheme is shown to be resilient against attacks,such as packet replays,forgeries,message falsifications,and *** the performance perspective,this protocol yields a 37.88%reduction in communication overheads and a 44.44%improvement in the supported security ***,the proposed scheme can be deployed in VANETs to provide robust security at low overheads.

Image co-segmentation and co-localization exploit inter-image information to identify and extract foreground objects with a batch mode. However, they remain challenging when confronted with large object variations or complex backgrounds. This paper proposes a multi-view graph embedding (MV-Gem) learning scheme which integrates diversity, robustness and discernibility of object features to alleviate this phenomenon. To encourage the diversity, the deep co-information containing both low-layer general representations and high-layer semantic information is generated to form a multi-view feature pool for comprehensive co-object description. To enhance the robustness, a multi-view adaptive weighted learning is formulated to fuse the deep co-information for feature complementation. To ensure the discernibility, the graph embedding and sparse constraint are embedded into the fusion formulation for feature selection. The former aims to inherit important structures from multiple views, and the latter further selects important features to restrain irrelevant backgrounds. With these techniques, MV-Gem gradually recovers all co-objects through optimization iterations. Extensive experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate that MV-Gem is capable of locating and delineating co-objects in an image group. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

DURING our discussion at workshops for writing“What Does ChatGPT Say:The DAO from Algorithmic Intelligence to Linguistic Intelligence”[1],we had expected the next milestone for Artificial Intelligence(AI)would be in the direction of Imaginative Intelligence(II),i.e.,something similar to automatic wordsto-videos generation or intelligent digital movies/theater technology that could be used for conducting new“Artificiofactual Experiments”[2]to replace conventional“Counterfactual Experiments”in scientific research and technical development for both natural and social studies[2]-[6].Now we have OpenAI’s Sora,so soon,but this is not the final,actually far away,and it is just the beginning.

Artificial intelligence(AI) systems surpass certain human intelligence abilities in a statistical sense as a whole, but are not yet the true realization of these human intelligence abilities and behaviors. There are differences, and even contradictions, between the cognition and behavior of AI systems and humans. With the goal of achieving general AI, this study contains a review of the role of cognitive science in inspiring the development of the three mainstream academic branches of AI based on the three-layer framework proposed by David Marr, and the limitations of the current development of AI are explored and analyzed. The differences and inconsistencies between the cognition mechanisms of the human brain and the computation mechanisms of AI systems are analyzed. They are found to be the cause of the differences and contradictions between the cognition and behavior of AI systems and humans. Additionally, eight important research directions and their scientific issues that need to focus on braininspired AI research are proposed: highly imitated bionic information processing, a large-scale deep learning model that balances structure and function, multi-granularity joint problem solving bidirectionally driven by data and knowledge, AI models that simulate specific brain structures, a collaborative processing mechanism with the physical separation of perceptual processing and interpretive analysis, embodied intelligence that integrates the brain cognitive mechanism and AI computation mechanisms,intelligence simulation from individual intelligence to group intelligence(social intelligence), and AI-assisted brain cognitive intelligence.

In this paper, background of pruning and quan-tization are discussed as well as carrying out the methods on Vision Transformers (ViT) with aim of improving efficiency and readiness for use on edge devices. The study considers the effects of these optimizations for model accuracy, size, time for inference, and energy expenditure. Reduction in size and computation demand is considerably achieved through pruning but this is at the expense of accuracy of the model. Quantization of models is beneficial as it reduces the size of the model and the time taken during inference, these are ideal for environments that have limited resources but it comes with drawbacks that are associated with quantization. Using both yields to the model as compact and efficient as possible but with a small trade off of accuracy. Some of the issues we consider are the question of how to op-timize trade-off between precision and speed, methods to reduce quantization effects, and techniques to make models conform to a given hardware system. The study determines that although existing techniques explain ways of advancing efficiency, they bring in new challenges and constraints. Further, there is a need to learn more about more sophisticated techniques concerning pruning and combinations of quantization approaches, as well as hardware wit tailored to perform low-precision calculations. Besides, the above approaches also need to be generalized into various application fields and enhance the model's practicality and stability. The study enriches the current knowledge base concerning the improvements of Vision Transformers for application on edge equipment while underlining the significance of the further work on model effectiveness and hardware implementation. This work is beneficial as it prepares the ground for innovations in applying state-of-art deep learning models in environments that are limited by resource availability in order to design better practical solutions in AI. © 2024 IEEE.

The research focuses on how augmented reality (AR) and the Internet of Things (IoT) might work together to create a novel retail environment. This integrated system revolutionizes how customers engage with products by fusing the digital and real worlds. Smartphones and other devices with AR capabilities allow customers to virtually try on products before purchasing. Smart mirrors and sensor-enabled shelving are just two examples of the IoT-powered interactive displays available today. These fusions of AR and the IoT improve the retail experience and facilitate choice. Capturing data from the physical environment, sensors allow for customized experiences. The extensive product data stored by cloud services paves the way for rapid data processing. However, there are obstacles, such as ensuring data privacy and security and coordinating AR-IoT smoothly. Finding a happy medium between technological complexity and ease of use is essential for a satisfying buying experience. The combination of AR and the IoT broadens the retail experience and has the potential to revolutionize the way people purchase. © 2024 IEEE.

Characteristic variability induced by process variation effect (PVE) is one of technological challenges in semiconductor industry. In this work, we computationally study electrical characteristic and power fluctuations induced by six factors of PVE of the gate-all-around (GAA) silicon (Si) nanosheet (NS) complementary field-effect-transistors (CFETs) which are formed by vertically stacking n-FET on top of p-FET. Among the six factors, NS thickness (TNS), NS width (WNS), and gate length (LG) are identified as crucial factors contributing to large variations in device characteristics. The p-FET exhibits substantial off-state current fluctuation (about 151%) due to the bottom parasitic channel leakages. Compared with the magnitudes of dynamic and short circuit powers, the static power is marginal, but it possesses the largest fluctuation (up to 148%). If we assume that each factor of PVE has the same probability distribution as the others and all are mutually independent, the statistical sum of their power fluctuations will exhibit more than 50% overestimations, compared with the results when all factors are considered simultaneously. © 2020 IEEE.

Segmenting Anything in the Dark via Depth Perception

Image segmentation under low-light conditions is essential in real-world applications, such as autonomous driving and video surveillance systems. The recent Segment Anything Model (SAM) exhibits strong segmentation capability in various vision applications. However, its performance could be severely degraded under low-light conditions. On the other hand, multimodal information has been exploited to help models construct more comprehensive understanding of scenes under low-light conditions by providing complementary information (e.g., depth). Therefore, in this work, we present a pioneer attempt that elevates a unimodal vision foundation model (e.g., SAM) to a multimodal one, by efficiently integrating additional depth information under low-light conditions. To achieve that, we propose a novel method called Depth Perception SAM (DPSAM) based on the SAM framework. Specifically, we design a modality encoder to extract the depth information and the Depth Perception Layers (DPLs) for mutual feature refinement between RGB and depth features. The DPLs employ the cross-modal attention mechanism to mutually query effective information from both RGB and depth for the subsequent feature refinement. Thus, DPLs can effectively leverage the complementary information from depth to enrich the RGB representations and obtain comprehensive multimodal visual representations for segmenting anything in the dark. To this end, our DPSAM maximally maintains the instinct expertise of SAM for RGB image segmentation and further leverages on the strength of depth for enhanced segmenting anything capability, especially for cases that are likely to fail with RGB only (e.g., low-light or complex textures). As demonstrated by extensive experiments on four RGBD benchmark datasets, DPSAM clearly improves the performance for the segmenting anything performance in the dark, e.g., +12.90% mIoU and +16.23% mIoU on LLRGBD and DeLiVER, respectively. © 1999-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we explore the implications of cloud- based platforms for agricultural data management and decision support systems, including the benefits, drawbacks, and potential developments. Cloud computing has thus played a very big role in promoting efficiency and productivity in agriculture through providing better data storage, data processing, and better decision making tools. From the review of the various platforms it was realized that the cloud solutions enhance the data management and decision support that can lead to better and faster decisions in the agricultural sector. However, there are some drawbacks, for example, data protection issues, issues of compatibility with other platforms, relatively high costs of the implementation, and the need for standardization of the data. These limitations can be considered as the factors which do not allow using the full potential of cloud-based solutions in agriculture. The study therefore recommends more research to deal with these challenges especially on the improvements in security, the integration of AI and machine learning in the system and the improvement on the costs for the smallholder farmers. Also, the problem of integrating data standards across the cloud and enhancing the compatibility of systems is of great importance to enhance the overall efficiency of cloud services. Further work in these directions is important to overcome present drawbacks and to enhance the prospects of cloud technologies in agriculture. This paper has discussed the challenges facing the agricultural sector to adopt the cloud-based platforms, thus, if these challenges are to be solved, the agricultural sector can be in a better position to improve the management of resources, sustainability and overall agricultural performance. © 2024 IEEE.
