Physical Layer Security in AmBC-NOMA Networks with Random Eavesdroppers

In this work, we investigate the physical layer security (PLS) of ambient backscatter communication non-orthogonal multiple access (AmBC-NOMA) networks where non-colluding eavesdroppers (Eves) are randomly distributed. In the proposed system, a base station (BS) transmits a superimposed signal to a typical NOMA user pair, while a backscatter device (BD) simultaneously transmits its unique signal by reflecting and modulating the BS’s signal. Meanwhile, Eves passively attempt to wiretap the ongoing transmissions. Notably, the number and locations of Eves are unknown, posing a substantial security threat to the system. To address this challenge, the BS injects artificial noise (AN) to mislead the Eves, and a protected zone is employed to create an Eve-exclusion area around the BS. Theoretical expressions for outage probability (OP) and intercept probability (IP) are provided to evaluate the system’s reliability-security trade-off. Asymptotic behavior at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is further explored, including the derivation of diversity orders for the OP. Numerical results validate the analytical findings through extensive simulations, demonstrating that both the AN injection and protected zone can effectively enhance PLS. Furthermore, analysis and insights of different key parameters, including transmit SNR, reflection efficiency at the BD, power allocation coefficient, power fraction allocated to desired signal, Eve-exclusion area radius, Eve distribution density, and backscattered AN cancellation efficiency, on OP and IP are also provided. © 2014 IEEE.

LoRa technology contributes to green energy by enabling efficient,long-range communication for the Internet of Things(IoT).This paper addresses the challenges related to coverage range in outdoor monitoring systems utilizing LoRa,where the network performance is affected by the density of gateways(GWs)and end devices(EDs),as well as environmental *** mitigate interference,data throughput losses,and high-power consumption,the proposed spreading factor(SF)and hybrid(data rate|SF)models dynamically adjust the transmission *** orchestration of concurrent data modifications within the network server(NS)is crucial for uninterrupted communication between GWs and EDs,especially in monitoring electric vehicle(EV)stations to reduce traffic congestion and *** K-means and density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise(DBSCAN)algorithms optimizes ED allocation,averts data congestion,and improves the signal-tointerference noise ratio(SINR).These methods ensure seamless information reception by meticulously allocated EDs across various GW *** estimate the free-space losses(FSL),a log-distance path loss model(log-PL)is *** various bandwidths(BWs),bidirectional communications,and duty cycles(DCs)helps to prevent saturation,thus prolonging the operational lifespan of *** findings reveal a notable packet rejection rate(PRR)of 0%for the DBSCAN(hybrid model).In contrast,the K-means exhibits a PRR ranging from 5%(hybrid model)to 35.29%(SF model)for the ten GWs ***,the network saturation is reduced to 10.185%and 9.503%,respectively,highlighting an improvement in the average efficiency of slotted ALOHA(91.1%)and pure ALOHA(90.7%).These enhancements increase the lifespan of EDs to 15,465.27 days.

Purpose: Colour fundus images are widely used in diagnosis treatment decision of several retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy (DR), glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). These very common conditions must be detected early and monitored to prevent progression and avoid permanent damage. Fundus images revealed to be useful also for the diagnosis of cataracts. In recent years, various automatic diagnostic support methods have been proposed in the literature, with the aim of facilitating widespread screening and obtaining quantitative, objective, and reproducible information. Methods: In this review paper, an overview of traditional, machine learning and modern deep learning techniques for ophthalmic disease diagnosis (i.e. glaucoma, DR, AMD, and cataract) using retinal fundus images is presented. In addition, various publicly available image datasets used for such purposes are described. Results: The current main challenges and findings are identified, as well as common aspects and discrepancies between the various methods developed for the various diseases. Conclusion: The overview of what has been done about all pathologies, rather than only on a specific one, could favour a migration of the best solutions and, hopefully, the development of a more precise and clinically useful automatic analysis of all pathologies. Important critical insights and research trends are also discussed. To minimize the disturbance of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) cutterhead on the surrounding rock during the coal mine roadway excavation process and ensure that the cutterhead rotation speed achieves fast tracking performance with minimal overshoot, we propose a direct adaptive robust control method for the cutterhead rotation speed hydraulic system based on inversion design. This method considers the strong disturbances such as loads and motion affecting the cutterhead hydraulic drive system, as well as the uncertainties in the cutterhead model. We establish the nonlinear model of the cutterhead hydraulic drive system and employ virtual control to reduce the model order. Using Lyapunov functions, we ensure the stability of the entire system and derive the control law for the cutterhead rotation speed controller, along with parameter-adaptive laws acting as parameter estimators. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy through joint simulation using AMESim and Simulink. The results show that the designed cutterhead rotation speed controller achieves high tracking accuracy and good adaptability. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, data-driven remote medical management has received much attention, especially in application of survival time forecasting. By monitoring the physical characteristics indexes of patients, intelligent algorithms can be deployed to implement efficient healthcare management. However, such pure medical data-driven scenes generally lack multimedia information, which brings challenge to analysis tasks. To deal with this issue, this paper introduces the idea of ensemble deep learning to enhance feature representation ability, thus enhancing knowledge discovery in remote healthcare management. Therefore, a multiview deep learning-based efficient medical data management framework for survival time forecasting is proposed in this paper, which is named as “MDL-MDM” for short. Firstly, basic monitoring data for body indexes of patients is encoded, which serves as the data foundation for forecasting tasks. Then, three different neural network models, convolution neural network, graph attention network, and graph convolution network, are selected to build a hybrid computing framework. Their combination can bring a multiview feature learning framework to realize an efficient medical data management framework. In addition, experiments are conducted on a realistic medical dataset about cancer patients in the US. Results show that the proposal can predict survival time with 1% to 2% reduction in prediction error IEEE

Forwarded by the technological urge of this era, several computational methods are implemented to give further insights into possible outcomes of diseases. In this context, atherosclerosis, which is one of the most fatal diseases nowadays, is treated alike, where several computational models are proposed annually allowing for the evaluation of several outcomes for patient specific cases. Among them, one of the most significant models is able to predict the atherosclerotic evolution over time. In this proof-of-concept study, we aim to investigate the effect of plaque morphology on plaque rupture in a two-case scenario - a longitudinal and a bulk plaque evolution in 3D-reconstructed patient-specific carotids arteries. Our approach is based on a three-step process: i) the implementation of a state-of-the-art plaque growth model that predicts evolving and new plaques in real patient specific carotid arteries, ii) the selection of 2 patient cases, one with longitudinal plaque evolution and one with bulk plaque evolution and, finally, iii) the evaluation the maximum principal stress over the plaques and the endothelium layers to assess the plaque rupture risk. The results indicate that the evolving plaques towards the lumen, not only cause stenoses but also are more prone to rupture. Clinical relevance- This proof-of-concept work establishes that the plaques that grow towards the luminal border present with a higher risk of potential rupture compared to plaques that grow longitudinally, thus giving valuable insights to clinicians for important decision making regarding potential endarterectomy procedures. © 2024 IEEE.

Improving model robustness against potential modality noise, as an essential step for adapting multimodal models to real-world applications, has received increasing attention among researchers. For Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA), there is also a debate on whether multimodal models are more effective against noisy features than unimodal ones. Stressing on intuitive illustration and in-depth analysis of these concerns, we present Robust-MSA, an interactive platform that visualizes the impact of modality noise as well as simple defence methods to help researchers know better about how their models perform with imperfect real-world data.
