The 6G mobile wireless networks are expected to support massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC) with stringent requirements on transmission-delay and error-rate bounded quality-of-service (QoS). Correspondingly, the finite blocklength coding (FBC) has developed as the effective technique to implement small-packet communications for the statistical QoS provisioning over mURLLC-based 6G mobile networks. On the other hand, guaranteeing the security for 6G networks services imposes another new dimension of statistical QoS requirements. However, how to efficiently upper-bound the statistical delay and the error probability over time-varying wireless fading channels while guaranteeing the security QoS using FBC remain a challenging problem. To overcome these difficulties, in this paper we propose and develop the new concept of secrecy ϵ-effective capacity as a statistical security QoS scheme to guarantee the performance of statistical delay-bounded QoS, error-rate bounded QoS, and the secrecy-information leak-probability bounded QoS by using the FBC technique. First, we establish the wireless channel model of massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) for supporting the communications between the base station and multiple mobile users with the existence of an eavesdropper. Second, we define and derive the eavesdropping rate and secrecy rate under the massive MIMO communication. Third, we derive the secrecy-information leak probability and integrate it with statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS to define the new wireless network communications performance metrics of secrecy ϵ-effective capacity. Finally, we use the numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our developed schemes for supporting statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning while upper-bounding the secrecy-information leak probability over 6G mobile networks using massive-MIMO/FBC.

This paper addresses the challenge of reducing the number of nodes in Look-Up Table (LUT) networks with two significant applications. First, Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) can be modelled as networks of LUTs, and minimizing the node count is imperative to meet resource constraints. Second, in area-oriented design space exploration for standard-cell designs, collapsing a circuit into a LUT network, restructuring it, and later remapping to the original representation helps escape local minima. Thus, the development of algorithms for optimizing and restructuring LUT networks holds considerable promise for area-oriented optimization. Substitution (also called resubstitution) is a powerful logic minimization method that can identify non-local logic dependencies and exploit them for logic minimization. State-of-the-art substitution algorithms for LUT networks rely heavily on SAT solving, limiting the number of optimization attempts and the size of the substitution sub-networks to one node mishchenko2011scalable. Conversely, our method relies on circuit simulation to increase the number of substitution candidates and enables substitutions with more than one node. The experimental results show that the proposed method identifies optimization opportunities overlooked by other methods, improving 11 out of 23 best-known results in the EPFL synthesis competition and yielding a 3.46% area reduction compared to the state-of-the-art. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

To sense mobile users' positions and channel states while simultaneously conveying information for supporting the 6G traffic, the integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has been proposed as a key technique for sensing and communicating using the same radio frequency and hardware. Moreover, to sup-port energy-constrained and battery-limited wireless networks, simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has also emerged to simultaneously deliver information and energy to a receiver. To integrate these two techniques, integrated sensing, communications, and powering (ISACP) has been developed to simultaneously sense the targeted mobile users, transmit the information, and deliver the power. However, how to efficiently optimize the power allocation in ISACP schemes to support the 6G traffic has imposed many new challenges not encountered before. To overcome these challenges, in this paper we propose a federated-learning (FL) enabled ISACP scheme to maximize the energy-efficiency over 6G massive MIMO wireless networks. First, we establish the system models for our proposed ISACP and FL schemes. Second, we design the training data set collection in the FL algorithm by sending the pilot signal from mobile users to the massive MIMO base station, and formulate an energy-efficiency maximization problem for the developed ISACP scheme. Third, To solve the formulated energy-efficiency maxi-mization problem, we propose an actorcritic enabled multi-agent based FL mechanism. Finally, we use the numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our developed schemes.

The massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC) services are emerging as a new traffic type to support communications among massive numbers of mobile users (MUs) demanding the stringent delay and error-rate bounded quality-of-services (QoS) requirements in 6G. Correspondingly, the integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) technique can improve various QoS performances through spectrum/hardware sharing between target-sensing and data-communications. In addition, the massive multiple-input multiple-output (massive MIMO) and finite blocklength coding (FBC) have been also widely recognized as the powerful 6G techniques to efficiently support mURLLC. However, how to apply the ISAC technique to accurately sense and estimate the wireless channel state while transmitting the information from the base station to MUs to support mURLLC using massive MIMO and FBC has imposed many new difficulties not encountered before. To conquer these challenges, in this paper we propose the new ISAC performance metrics for statistical-QoS guaranteed mURLLC over 6G massive MIMO mobile networks using FBC. First, we establish system models for ISAC-based architectures. Second, we detect targeted MUs and estimate the channel state using the radar sensing echo. Third, we develop a new ISAC performance metric as a function of the data-communication rate and channel state estimation distortion. Finally, we use the numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our developed ISAC performances in supporting mURLLC-oriented QoS requirements.

The high commutation speed of wide band-gap devices causes undesired voltage overshoots and oscillatory behavior observed across the drain-source port. The mitigation of these voltage overshoots and oscillations caused by the resonant interaction between the commutation loop parasitic inductance and the switch parasitic output capacitance requires additional design considerations. In this work, a Thevenin-based frequency domain approach for modelling the switch voltage overshoot and oscillations with respect to the commutation power loop is proposed. The switching transition and its associated slew rate is modelled using a clamped-ramp function. The two figures of merit used to quantify the effect of the circuit elements in the commutation power loop with respect to the resonant oscillations are the voltage overshoot and time to steady state. Using the clamped-ramp function and the two figures of merit, the effect of the parasitic inductance and the decoupling capacitor on the power loop is analyzed. The trends observed from the analyses are used to obtain recommendations regarding the sizing and placement of the decoupling capacitor in the power loop. The proposed Thevenin-based frequency domain model is experimentally validated by comparing the analytical results with both the LTspice simulations and the experimental waveforms for a SiC-based 400 V, 20 A double pulse test.

During the coal seam drilling process, the drill string is subject to compressive deformation, compounded by unpredictable variations in formation hardness and borehole wall friction, leading to challenges in maintaining a stable feeding speed. This paper presents a novel approach by introducing uncertain parameters to describe the effects of formation hardness and borehole wall friction. Drill string axial movement model is modeled as a polyhedral system based on a lumped parameter representation. To meet industrial performance requirements, we design a robust H∞ controller to achieve consistent feeding speed control. Our simulation results demonstrate the controller’s effectiveness in ensuring system stability despite fluctuations in formation hardness and drill string friction. © 2024 IEEE.

To satisfy the stringent quality-of-service (QoS) requirements of 6G mobile wireless networks on both channel state estimations and information transmissions, the integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has been an enabling technique to sense and communicate by sharing the same frequency band and hardware. Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has also emerged to simultaneously deliver information and energy to a receiver. However, how to integrate ISAC with SWIPT to support the 6G traffic has imposed many new challenges not encountered before. To conquer these difficulties, in this paper we propose an integrated sensing, communications, and powering (ISACP) scheme for supporting statistical-QoS provisioning over 6G wireless networks using massive multiple-input and multiple-output (massive MIMO) communications. First, we establish system models for our ISACP scheme and define the Cramér-Rao bound and channel estimation distortion under our proposed ISACP scheme. Second, we develop the performance metrics of Cramér-Rao bound and channel estimation distortion to derive the capacity-distortion function to jointly measure the performance of integrated sensing, communication, and powering. Third, we integrate the capacity-distortion function with the finite blocklength coding (FBC) through deriving the ISACP-based ϵ-effective capacity to support the statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning in 6G. Fourth, we maximize the energy-efficiency by controlling the optimal wireless power transfer for our ISACP scheme. Finally, we use numerical analyses to validate and evaluate our proposed ISACP scheme.

Sensor network localization (SNL) is a challenging problem due to its inherent non-convexity and the effects of noise in inter-node ranging measurements and anchor node position. We formulate a non-convex SNL problem as a multiplayer non-convex potential game and investigate the existence and uniqueness of a Nash equilibrium (NE) in both the ideal setting without measurement noise and the practical setting with measurement noise. We first show that the NE exists and is unique in the noiseless case, and corresponds to the precise network localization. Then, we study the SNL for the case with errors affecting the anchor node position and the inter-node distance measurements. Specifically, we establish that in case these errors are sufficiently small, the NE exists and is unique. It is shown that the NE is an approximate solution to the SNL problem, and that the position errors can be quantified accordingly. Based on these findings, we apply the results to case studies involving only inter-node distance measurement errors and only anchor position information inaccuracies. © 2024 IEEE.

We introduce a novel framework for analyzing reinforcement learning (RL) in continuous state-action spaces, and use it to prove fast rates of convergence in both off-line and on-line settings. Our analysis highlights two key stability properties, relating to how changes in value functions and/or policies affect the Bellman operator and occupation measures. We argue that these properties are satisfied in many continuous state-action Markov decision processes. Our analysis also offers fresh perspectives on the roles of pessimism and optimism in off-line and on-line RL. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. All rights reserved.

The massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC) services are emerging as a new traffic type to support massive numbers of mobile users (MUs) demanding the stringent delay and error-rate bounded quality-of-services (QoS) requirements over 6G. Among multiple 6G mURLLC services, digital twins (DT) has been widely envisioned as a major intelligent application to support efficient interactions between physical and virtual objects. Moreover, multi-tier caching, which is one of the key distributed computing techniques, stores the frequently-demanded data items at different wireless network tiers to efficiently reduce mURLLC streaming delay and data move. However, how to efficiently cache mURLLC-based DT data items at different caching tiers of wireless networks and how to statistically upper-bound both delay and error-rate for DT communications remain challenging problems. To overcome these difficulties, in this paper we propose a multi-tier caching mechanism to support DT communications over 6 G mobile networks. First, we propose the DT data adaptive collection scheme applying finite blocklength coding (FBC) to dynamically encode a physical object into its virtual representation according to the current network and wireless channel statuses. Second, we develop inter-tier and intra-tier collaborative caching mechanisms, where DT data items are selectively cached at different wireless network caching tiers according to their popularities including: router tier, massive-multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) basestation tier, and mobile device tier. Third, our proposed intertier collaborative caching mechanisms maximize the aggregate $\epsilon$ effective capacity across all three caching tiers, and our proposed intra-tier collaborative caching mechanisms minimize the sum of data transmission delay for all DT data items cached in each caching tier.
