Model and Data Hybrid Reinforcement Learning for Optimal Voltage-Current Control of Hybrid Active Power Filter

In this paper, a novel design for optimal voltage and current control (OVCC) is introduced, employing a hybrid model-data reinforcement learning (MDRL) approach for hybrid active power filters (HAPF). High steady-state accuracy and rapid dynamic response are achieved by the MDRL-based OVCC, which also maintains low sampling and computational demands. The limitations of dynamic response, inherent in traditional control methods that require significantly lower bandwidth for DC voltage control compared to AC current control, are effectively addressed. Initially, a circuit configuration and mathematical model for the HAPF are proposed. Subsequently, an MDRL-OVCC structure for optimal control is established. The training of the MDRL-OVCC is conducted using an online robust policy iteration method, and the safety of the system is ensured through a proposed robust stability analysis. Comprehensive simulation and experimental results are presented, demonstrating the superior performance of the MDRL-OVCC compared to existing state-of-the-art methods. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

This paper introduces a new 17-bus 500 kV test system that has been specially designed to support transmission expansion planning studies. Unlike other test systems that have been developed for power system analysis, this system is unique because it focuses exclusively on transmission expansion planning at high voltage levels. Existing test systems that are used for TEP studies, in combination with electricity market problems or for integrating new generation or loads, tend to consider the system operations only under normal conditions and one loading condition. However, in practical scenarios, the system must be able to operate under different loading conditions and single contingencies to ensure reliability. Therefore, a reliable test system should mimic the behavior of a real power system, operating under both normal and all single contingency conditions for different loading conditions. This paper addresses this need by introducing a 17-bus 500 kV test system that can operate successfully under three different loading conditions (peak load, dominant load - 60% of peak load, and light load - 40% of peak load), while also being able to handle the operation at normal and single contingency conditions in each case.

Electromagnetic transients are a challenge to manage in power systems. Among these concerns are switching overvoltages, which require meticulous attention from power system designers. Evaluating this transient phenomenon becomes imperative when expanding the grid with new installations. This paper delves into the switching overvoltage (SOV) analysis, focusing on a novel proposed unconventional line. A comprehensive comparison with an existing conventional line is conducted utilizing various line models in EMTP-RV. Our investigation explores the nuanced behaviors revealed by frequency-dependent (FD) and wide-band (WB) models, shedding light on distinctive transient responses. The paper will examine the waveform characteristics using a straightforward and computationally efficient example.

Emerging power electronic drives and converters are planned to operate at high voltages with high switching frequencies (up to a few hundred kHz), which will affect the reliability of insulation systems of windings of electrical machines. To evaluate the insulation quality under such high-frequency pulses, lifetime test is a prominent way. For simplification of test procedure, turn-to-turn insulation samples are approved by IEC 60034-18-42. In past studies, the impact of switching frequencies has been investigated under lower frequencies (up to 20 kHz), which cannot address the challenges of next-generation wide bandgap (WBG)-based power converters. In this study, the lifetimes of turn-to-turn insulations under high switching frequencies (50 kHz) are tested at four different rise times (50 ns, 100 ns, 150 ns, 200 ns), and the impact of switching frequency on the lifetime of the insulation is analyzed.

To realize net zero emissions in aviation sector, all electric aircraft (AEA) are an optimistic technology. To make commercial wide body AEA a reality, one of the main challenges is to design their electric power system (EPS) having high power density and the lowest possible system mass. The power needed and pressure level during take-off and cruising time create opposing conditions, so designing one cable that meets all the requirements is crucial. In low-pressure conditions at cruising altitude (12.2 km), cable design faces significant thermal challenges because of limited heat transfer. A comprehensive multiphysics model is necessary to compute the distribution of temperature across the cable under various environmental conditions to find the optimal cable configuration. This study focuses on a cylindrical bipolar 5 kV DC cable system in a duct with multilayer insulation at atmospheric and low (18.8k Pa) pressure based on the maximum current that flows in the introduced EPS of N3-X (NASA) AEA system under the worst-case of single contingency conditions so that the designed cable can handle any single contingency situations maintaining thermal limits.

This article outlines the development of a compact MIMO antenna with two ports crafted for millimeter-wave band operations, specifically tailored to support fifth-generation (5G) wireless applications. The suggested antenna is constructed on a Rogers RT/duroid 5880 substrate, measuring ${12} \times {6}\times {0.508} \text{mm}{3}$ . The proposed antenna has a slotted ground on the bottom and two Fractal-shaped radiating elements inspired by the Cantor Set pattern, positioned atop the dielectric material. The suggested antenna covers the millimeter-wave spectrum utilized in 5G, showcasing a wide bandwidth extending from 26.6 GHz to 29.08 GHz and 38.5 to 39.2 GHz. The antenna attains a maximum gain of 7.64 dBi, robust isolation exceeding 26 dB and demonstrates exceptional diversity performance, with an envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) below 0.003 and a diversity gain (DG) surpassing 10 dB. The obtained results Confirm the validity of the designed MIMO antenna's robustness and make it a viable option for 5G wireless equipment.

To support increasing demands for real-time multimedia wireless data traffic, there have been considerable efforts toward guaranteeing stringent quality-of-service (QoS) when designing massive multiple-input and multiple-output (m-MIMO) mobile wireless network architectures for massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC). One of the major design issues raised by mURLLC is how to characterize QoS metrics for upper-bounding both delay and error-rate when implementing short-packet data communications, such as finite blocklength coding (FBC), over highly time-varying m-MIMO based wireless fading channels. To efficiently accommodate statistical QoS for mURLLC traffic, it is crucial to model and investigate m-MIMO based wireless fading channels’ stochastic-characteristics by defining and identifying new statistical QoS metrics and their analytical relationships, such as delay-bound-violating probability, effective capacity, decoding error probability, etc., in the finite blocklength regime. However, how to rigorously and efficiently characterize the stochastic dynamics of m-MIMO mobile wireless networks in terms of statistically upper-bounding FBC-based both delay and error-rate QoS metrics has been neither fundamentally understood nor thoroughly studied before. To overcome these challenges, in this paper we develop analytical modeling techniques and frameworks for statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS in the finite blocklength regime. First, we establish system models using FBC. Second, we develop a set of new statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS metrics including delay, error-rate, and joint-delay/error-rate QoS-exponents, and the corresponding ϵ-effective capacities. Finally, our simulations validate and evaluate our developed modeling schemes for statistical QoS to support 6G mURLLC.

Audio deepfake detection is an emerging topic in the artificial intelligence community. The second Audio Deepfake Detection Challenge (ADD 2023) aims to spur researchers around the world to build new innovative technologies that can further accelerate and foster research on detecting and analyzing deepfake speech utterances. Different from previous challenges (e.g. ADD 2022), ADD 2023 focuses on surpassing the constraints of binary real/fake classification, and actually localizing the manipulated intervals in a partially fake speech as well as pinpointing the source responsible for generating any fake audio. Furthermore, ADD 2023 includes more rounds of evaluation for the fake audio game sub-challenge. The ADD 2023 challenge includes three subchallenges: audio fake game (FG), manipulation region location (RL) and deepfake algorithm recognition (AR). This paper describes the datasets, evaluation metrics, and protocols. Some findings are also reported in audio deepfake detection tasks. © 2023 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.
