Joint radar-communication (JRC) is a promising radio-frequency (RF) areas for future 6G applications. However, there have been very limited works on RF front-ends for JRC systems. This paper compares JRC systems with orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) waveforms and frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) waveforms. Than we provides an outlook on the challenges for integrating the RF front-end of JRC systems on a single chip. © 2021 IEEE.

Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) can significantly improve unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication qualities by reconfiguring or even optimizing wireless propagation environments. For active IRS (AIRS) enabled UAV-based mobile wireless networks, we aim to maximize the sum transmission rates of all IoT devices (IoTDs), by jointly optimizing the AIRSs’ phase shifts and amplification factors and UAV trajectory under the discrete IRS model. First, we formulate a sum transmission rate maximization problem for IoTDs, where all IoTDs can transmit data simultaneously by integrating the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and frequency division multiple access (FDMA) techniques. The formulated problem is non-convex because the coupled phase shifts and amplification factors are both discrete variables based on the discrete IRS model. Hence, we develop multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL) based schemes by integrating the deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) and Dueling Deep Q Network (Dueling DQN) techniques to derive the UAV trajectory and the amplification factors and phase shifts of AIRSs, respectively. Finally, we validate and evaluate the performances improvements of our developed MADRL-based schemes through extensive simulations.

We focus on a real-time multi agent decision-making algorithm that combines a centralized algorithm and a distributed algorithm. A network segmentation is unavoidable in a dynamic environment. In such cases, it is necessary for each agent to continually make the most urgent real-time decisions in both centralized and decentralized ways. In this paper, we present a Hybrid Factored-Value Max-Plus algorithm with cost which has online, anytime, and scalable properties despite network segmentation. We also study the performance of centralized and distributed algorithms to understand the performance characteristics of a hybrid algorithm.

To support increasing demands for real-time multimedia wireless data traffic, there have been considerable efforts toward guaranteeing stringent quality-of-service (QoS) when designing mobile wireless network architectures for ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC). One of the major design issues raised by URLLC is how to characterize QoS metrics for upper-bounding both delay and error-rate when implementing short-packet data communications, such as finite blocklength coding (FBC), over highly time-varying wireless fading channels. To efficiently accommodate statistical QoS provisioning for URLLC traffic, it is crucial to model and investigate wireless fading channels’ stochastic-characteristics by defining and identifying new statistical QoS metrics and their analytical relationships, such as delay-bound-violating probability, effective capacity, decoding error probability, outage capacity, etc., in the non-asymptotic regime. However, how to rigorously and efficiently characterize the stochastic dynamics of mobile wireless networks in terms of statistically upper-bounding FBC-based both delay and error-rate QoS metrics has been neither well understood nor thoroughly studied before. To overcome these challenges, in this paper we develop analytical modeling frameworks and controlling mechanisms for statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning in the non-asymptotic regime. First, we establish FBC-based system models by characterizing various information-theoretic specifications. Second, we characterize the outage-probability and outage capacity functions in the non-asymptotic regime. Third, we develop a set of new statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS metrics and control mechanisms including delay-bound-violation probability, QoS-exponent functions, and the -effective capacity in the non-asymptotic regime. Finally, the obtained simulation results validate and evaluate our proposed controlling mechanisms for statistical QoS in support

Increasing tendency to highly penetrate distribution networks with renewables due to environmental concerns, has lead distribution network operators to establish energy storage systems (ESS) for obtaining required flexibility. In this paper, the role of a widely used ESS, namely, compressed-air energy storage (CAES) is evaluated considering hosting distributed generation capacity of network. A deterministic scheduling strategy is proposed to minimize cost of operation and maintenance of network in presence of PV and wind generation as renewable sources. By utilization of CAES, renewable energy curtailment has been reduced while total electricity cost injected from the grid is minimized. Optimal charge and discharge scheduling of CAES has allowed excess renewable energy to be stored and then injected to the network on peak hours in order to reduce cost by decreasing power grid dependency on peak hours. © 2021 Chamber of Turkish electrical Engineers.

In order to support extremely diverse and challenging delay and error-rate bounded quality-of-service (QoS) requirements for ultra-reliable and low latency communications (URLLC), a number of of promising 6G techniques, including unmanned-aerial-vehicles (UAVs), intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs), finite blocklength coding (FBC), etc., are being developed for potential use in 6G wireless networks. In addition, to implement over-the-air intelligent reflection and enlarge wireless service areas, integrating UAVs and IRSs provides a promising means to significantly enhance line-of-sight (LOS) coverage due to the relatively high altitude and 3D mobility of the UAVs. However, it is very challenging to characterize system models and guarantee statistical delay and error rate bounded QoS requirements in such complicated and dynamic UAV/IRS-based wireless network environments while supporting URLLC. To overcome these difficulties, in this paper we propose joint passive IRS beamforming and UAV trajectory optimization schemes to support statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning for URLLC over UAV/IRS-based wireless networks using FBC. First, we develop UAV/IRS-based 3D wireless channel models in the finite blocklength regime. Second, we formulate and solve the FBC-based ϵ-effective energy-efficiency maximization problem by jointly optimizing power allocation, passive IRS beamforming, and UAV trajectory for our developed schemes. Finally, the obtained simulation results validate and evaluate our proposed schemes over UAV/IRS-based wireless networks.

With the frequent occurrence of extreme events like natural disasters and man-made attacks, the resilience concept is attracting worldwide research attention. Thus, this paper proposes a resilient operation model for the power distribution network (PDN) to recover load and limit economic loss to the greatest possible extent. First, the line hardening measure is applied to strengthen the PDN to avoid the serious breakdown of distribution lines. In addition, a comprehensive single commodity flow-based reconfiguration approach is used which not only sets the buses connecting generation sources but also those at the end of broken lines as the slack buses. Then, the radiality of PDNs can still be guaranteed after reconfiguration. The resilience-oriented operation problem can be originally formulated as a nonlinear programming one while efficient linearization methods are applied to reduce computational burdens. Hence, the operation problem is reformulated as a mixed-integer linear programming one which will enjoy favorable solution performances. Finally, case studies on an IEEE 33 PDN including comparison cases with traditional benchmarks are done to show the effectiveness of our method.

Using oriented steel for segmented stator construction in AC electric machine can improve the efficiency of machine by decreasing core losses compared to a machine designed with non-oriented steel. Therefore, analysis of the oriented steel stator in AC electric machines in finite analysis is of great interest. Several attempts were made to accurately simulate oriented steel in segmented stators; however, the insight into the flux distribution and consequently the perceived properties of the oriented steel is at-large missing. In this work, a physics-based approach to model oriented steel for radial flux AC machines is developed to accurately capture the magnetic properties by considering the direction of flux. The determined magnetic properties are used to model an equivalent isotropic model in FEA. The accuracy of developed FEA model is validated experimentally.

To enhance power quality and obtain high power from photovoltaic(PV), and mitigate the impact of the PV system's partial shading condition(PSC) and electrical mismatch power problems. This paper presents a single-phase, simple seven-level multilevel inverter architecture With a lower number of power components connected with four individual group PV systems integration converter DC/DC with independent Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT)in each group. The proposed inverter provides a reduced total harmonic distortion (THD) of voltage and unity active power. This reduction in the number of switches generates a decrease in the losses of switching and the number of drive circuits, which in turn causes a decrease in the control complication and decreases the cost and size of the control circuit. We compared this cascaded multilevel topology architecture to evaluate the performance of the suggested inverter, which needed modern cascade multilevel topologies with the same seven levels of voltage. The achievement of the comparison is dependent on several elements, including a set of parameters(diodes and capacitors), the overall harmonic distortion, and the number of switches included inside the inverter. The program(Simulink/Matlab) was used to verify the critical evaluation of the presented topology through simulation results.

The foundation of a country's critical infrastructures (CI), which provide crucial services, is its security, healthcare, and economic systems. By lowering CI's operational costs and associated expenses and enhancing its effectiveness and safety, appropriately functional CI infrastructure plays an essential role in the prosperity of the nations. To do so, businesses that manage CIs frequently combine the Internet of Things (IoT) with Cyber-Physical systems (CPS), such as SCADA systems. SCADA systems were not initially built with web security in mind, exposing CIs open to security risks. National security issues can arise when these technologies are connected to power plants and water treatment facilities. This study aims to demonstrate how security features can be implemented in DNP3-based SCADA infrastructures. By creating a functional configuration and consensus amongst the communicating devices, the DNP3 protocol will support digital signatures. The team proposed a SCADA architecture to accomplish this, making it possible for these systems more secure manner.
