Development of the telecommunications software systems is a highly demanding task. Beside requirements for high reliability, availability and very complex features, customers today demand new releases to be delivered in a very short time frames. Usual development projects are faced with significant problems and obstacles that in most cases result with long development cycles, high cost and poor quality of implemented solutions. The transition from traditional software development towards agile projects with frequent releases is not trivial and demand significant changes in all aspects of project organization. This work analyzes major obstacles in telecommunication software development and proposes a method for the use of common project retrospectives to improve telecommunications software development. Proposed method is applied and evaluated on the actual project to demonstrate all benefits that project retrospectives can bring to the telecommunications software development.

In this work, we base on generalized multi-layered perceptron neural networks with backpropagation algorithm (generalized MLP/BP) to construct multi-input multi-output (MIMO) decision feedback equalizers (DFEs). The proposal is used to recover distorted nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) data in wireline parallel band-limited channels. From the simulations, we note that the proposed design can recover severe distorted NRZ data as well as suppress intersymbol interference (ISI), adjacent channel interference (ACI) and background noise. The better BER performance as compared to a set of LMS DFEs and an MLP/BP-based MIMO DFE is achieved in the wireline parallel band-limited channels where the data rate is ten times as much as the channel bandwidth.

The performance limits and engineering issues of ultra-thin body （UTB）double gated（DG）Ge channel n-MOSFETs are examined in this *** non-equilibrium Green's Function（NEGF） approach,including both L and Δ conduction valleys,is employed for source to drain current,while the improved WKB tunneling is employed for substrate to drain（band-to-band BTB）and gate to channel *** possible Ge surfaces and channel orientations are *** terms of drive current I,highly anisotropic Ge〈110〉channel exhibits highest Iwhich increases with body thickness scaling;Ge〈100〉exhibits similar ballistic limit as Si〈100〉due to increasing Δ valley cartier dominance at UTB regime;Ge〈111〉exhibits higher ballistic limit but decrease at UTB regime due to the small density-of-states mass of L ***- threshold slope is worse for Ge〈110〉and Ge〈111〉as channel length is scaled *** terms of standby current I and gate leakage I for low standby power（LSTP）devices,BTB tunneling is large due to the small energy gap of *** imposes a limit on maximum tolerable supply voltage （of which Ge〈111〉is worst and Ge〈100〉is best）thus requiring low voltage *** scaling is effective in suppressing BTB tunneling,since carrier quantization causes effective energy gap *** low voltage requirement demands small EOT for minimal oxide voltage ***,gate leakage will impose a limit for further EOT scaling,of which Ge 〈110〉is worst and Ge〈111〉is *** results conclude that in addition to lower power supply voltage advantage,the engineered Ge〈110〉devices with suppressed BTB and gate leakages can achieve better intrinsic delay to OFF power ratio than Si〈100〉 devices.

Remote patient monitoring in e-Health is everyday closer to be a mature technology/service. However, there is still a lack of development in areas such as standardization of the sensor's communication interface, integration into Electronic Healthcare Record systems or incorporation in ambient-intelligent scenarios. This work identifies a set of use cases involved in the personal monitoring scenario and highlights the related features and functionalities, as well as the integration and implementation difficulties found when these are to be implemented in a system based on the ISO/IEEE11073 (X73) standard. It is part of a cooperative research effort devoted to the development of an end-to-end standards-based telemonitoring solution. Standardization committees are working towards adapting the X73 standard to this emerging personal health devices market and use case identification is essential to direct these revisions.

Experimental thermal neutron and alpha soft error test results of a 4 Mbit SRAM fabricated on a 0.25 mum process are evaluated using Vanderbilt University's RADSAFE toolkit. The capabilities of the radiation transport code are demonstrated by accurately reproducing experimental results and predicting operational soft error rates for the memory.

This paper explores SiGe profile optimization for improved cryogenic operation at high injection. Through analyzing distributive transit time profiles, the bottle neck limiting high injection fT is identified and then eliminated in an optimized profile design. Multimedia applications are driving wireless network operators to add high-speed data services such as Edge (E-GPRS), WCDMA (UMTS) and WLAN (IEEE 802.11a,b,g) to the existing network. This creates the need for multi-mode cellular handsets that support a wide range of communication standards, each with a different RF freguency, signal bandwidth, modulation scheme, etc. This in turn generates several design challenges for the analog and digital building blocks of the physical layer. In addition to the above-mentioned protocols, mobile devices often include Bluetooth, GPS, FM-radio and TV services that can work concurrently with data and voice communication. Multi-mode, multi-band, and multi-standard mobile terminals must satisfy all these different reguirements. Sharing and/or switching transceiver building blocks in these handsets is mandatory in order to extend battery life and/or to reduce cost. Only adaptive circuits that are able to reconfigure themselves within the handover time can meet the design reguirements of a single receiver or transmitter covering all the different standards while ensuring seamless inter-interoperability. This paper presents analog and digital base-band circuits that are able to support GSM (with Edge), WCDMA (UMTS), WLAN and Bluetooth using reconfigurable building blocks. The blocks can trade off power consumption for performance on the fly, depending on the standard to be supported and the reguired QoS (Quality of Service) level. © 2006 IEEE.

The design and testing of a low cost ultra low power microcontroller based zinc-air battery charge monitor is presented. The zinc-air battery chemistry is a lightweight and efficient portable energy solution that features an extremely flat voltage profile as the battery discharges. This design provides an alternative charge monitoring method to a voltage sampling system. The circuit operates by sampling the outgoing current and performing a count down algorithm. This design utilizes an ultra low loss resistive current sensor and a microcontroller to sample the outgoing current of a zinc-air battery in a fully programmable interval that defaults to two seconds. The circuit shuts down into a sleep mode when not sampling, which draws about 8μA from the 12V battery. The average current is 22μA. This current will discharge the battery by 1% in approximately 1.54 years. Overall cost is US$7.00 using bulk consumer parts. The paper presents design goals, considerations, and hardware results of the circuit. © 2006 IEEE.

The paper emphasizes the circuit innovations of a key analog function realized on the IAD GmbH DLC_2 family chip, a precision programmable voltage reference with superior performance capabilities dedicated for an integrated 10 bits D/A converter. The chip developed in co-operation of IAD and MAZ Brandenburg has been produced with 0.35 mum CMOS switched capacitor technology from AMS, it can be used on the one hand within typical power-line applications, such us controlling and management, and the other hand for data communication, such as telephony or internet access. The programmable voltage reference is based on a new design that provides fast programmability between voltages and stable voltage operation from 0.25 Vdda to 0.75 Vdda. The main objective is to select a design that meets as close as possible criteria related to the chip specification requirements such as reliability, flexibility, and integration area. Consequently, an adequate programmable voltage reference is proposed which is 4 bits decoder-based converter architecture
