Bus-clamping Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) is an effective method to reduce the switching loss in a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). In bus-clamping PWM scheme, the phase legs are switched using high frequency PWM signals for two-third of the line cycle, while for the remaining duration of cycle, the pole voltage is clamped to either positive or negative rail of the DC bus. In PWM operation of a half bridge, a dead-time is applied between the gate signals of complementary switches to ensure safe and reliable operation. However, introduction of dead-time leads to poor power quality, increased Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and variation in actual voltage compared to the intended pole voltage. Moreover, when the bus-clamping technique is used, the PWM has both high frequency switching region and clamped region in a line cycle, and consequently, the undesired effects of dead-time are further aggravated. Therefore, in order to enhance the quality of output voltage, this paper presents a dead-time compensation strategy for a VSI operating with bus-clamping PWM. The proposed method calculates the required compensation term to be added on the modulation signal considering wide range of operating conditions. Additionally, the compensation includes a new strategy for low current conditions near zero-crossing to avoid distortion. The proposed method is verified by simulation and experiments in a three-phase VSI with a switching frequency of 100 kHz and a fundamental frequency of 60Hz. © 2023 IEEE.

Modeling bias - the difference between the test accuracy obtained by a reference network prototype and a simulated model of that prototype - is explored in the context of hafnia-based ferroelectric field effect transistor (FeFET) devices. Device operating conditions are investigated as a parameter for mitigating the impact of device-to-device variability on the underlying network performance. The computational framework includes a physics-based compact model with artificial variance to sample device data and a multivariate Kriging model to create jump table device models;this framework is a fast and efficient technique to model device populations for realistic neural network simulations. Neural network simulations elucidate optimal operating conditions for practical implementation of FeFET neuromorphic circuits. Future work will include experimental verification and performance comparison against other neuromorphic emerging-memory technologies such as resistive random-access memory (ReRAM) in terms of neural network performance. © 2023 ACM.

In the Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) era, finding implementations of quantum algorithms that mini-mize the number of expensive and error prone multi-qubit gates is vital to ensure computations produce meaningful outputs. Unitary synthesis, the process of finding a quantum circuit that implements some target unitary matrix, is able to solve this problem optimally in many cases. However, current bottom-up unitary synthesis algorithms are limited by their exponentially growing run times. We show how applying machine learning to unitary datasets permits drastic speedups for synthesis algorithms. This paper presents QSeed, a seeded synthesis algorithm that employs a learned model to quickly propose resource efficient circuit implementations of unitaries. QSeed maintains low gate counts and offers a speedup of 3.7 x in synthesis time over the state of the art for a 64 qubit modular exponentiation circuit, a core component in Shor's factoring algorithm. QSeed's performance improvements also generalize to families of circuits not seen during the training process. © 2023 IEEE.

Active power decoupling (APD) circuit is of great importance in single-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverter systems for eliminating the fluctuating power drawn from the PV panel. The control of APD circuit is the key to the power decoupling performance and maximum power point tracking (MPPT) efficiency. This paper proposes a control approach for parallel boost type APD circuit with a single sensor, reducing the count of sensors compared to the conventional APD control approach. Operation of the APD circuit with control approach utilizing only the readings from the decoupling capacitor voltage sensor is analyzed in this work. Specifically, controller design for the APD circuit with reduced sensor applicable to a 40 V, 400 W microinverter is presented and experimentally verified with a GaN-based prototype. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the modeling and design of a 1kW two-stage photovoltaic (PV) inverter compatible with both single phase and three phase grid. The topology consists of a cascade of dual-active-bridge (DAB) based dc-dc stage and a two-level voltage source inverter (VSI) stage. Two-level VSI based dc-ac stage is designed and the modulation schemes are compared considering operation for both single phase and three phase output connection. A 3 leg interleaved hybrid pulse width modulation (3 leg-IHPWM) is proposed for single phase operation to reduce power loss and current total harmonic distortion (THD) with full utilization of the third switching leg. Sizing of dc link capacitance is analyzed for both single phase power decoupling and three phase load unbalance. Circuit design and component selection are conducted including dc link voltage selection, output filter sizing, DAB dc-dc stage transformer sizing and modulation optimization for zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) ability and control flexibility. The proposed design is verified through hardware prototype and experimental testing. © 2023 IEEE.

In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, the need for efficient and reliable remote monitoring of under-water assets has never been more critical. A subsea cellular network solution ensures seamless connectivity and real-time data access to underwater assets such as marine robots and subsea IoT sensors, empowering organizations to optimize their operations and enhance asset management. With this need in mind, we present an underwater cellular network system that facilitates seamless communication with an arbitrary number of underwater assets and at the same time provides zero-overhead localization of the same. The presented system was tested out at sea in January 2024, and this paper describes in detail both the theoretical design of the system and the practical experience gained during these trials. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper investigates the security-constrained bidding strategy of the emerging shared transportation hubs for renewable fuels and refined oil (STH-RRs) participating within energy, regulation and pipeline logistics markets. Firstly, to excavate more flexible capability for the power system as well as to increase the revenue of the STH-RR operation company, the model for STH-RR participating in regulation market is established. Secondly, the security-constrained two-stage bidding model is first proposed for STH-RRs to balance the revenue across energy, regulation and pipeline logistics markets. Particularly, to guarantee secure operation of STH-RRs and meet the delivery demand, the rigorous multi-product transportation constraints are considered in both stages. Case studies based on the modified real-world multi-product pipelines in South China validate the proposed method, with the revenue and turnover increase of 14% and 4.7%, respectively, compared with conventional methods. © 2024 IEEE.
