This work formulates the feedback control strategies for vehicles to reach a goal point amongst a field of dynamic risk regions. Whereas previous work has considered deterministic versions of this problem, we consider the scenario in the context of uncertainty. This uncertainty could be due to unknown wind or other external disturbances. The risk regions’ dynamics are tightly coupled to the state of the vehicle and as a result the task of navigating through a field dynamically changes as the vehicle traverses through it. Rather than using a nonlinear program solver, the approach taken here is one of formulating the problem as a stochastic optimal control problem wherein a feedback control law is derived. This feedback control law allows a single or multiple vehicles to reach the desired goal location efficiently and with minimal risk incursion. When inside a risk region, there is a probability rate of the vehicle being neutralized. The stochastic dynamical system is modeled as a hybrid system, i.e., regime switching diffusion. The hybrid system is comprised of continuous spatial dynamics and discrete operational states corresponding to "normal" and "neutralized". The optimal control problem is discretized into a field of vehicle states and control. Using Value Iteration, the control signal at each discrete location is optimized, providing a feedback control strategy over the field. This paper investigates a two-way full-duplex decode-and-forward relaying system under Rician fading channels with imperfect channel state information. In this system, multiple pairs of users exchange information via a relay equipped with a large number of antennas. Both the maximum-ratio combining/maximum-ratio transmission (MRC/MRT) and the zero-forcing (ZF) processing methods are considered at the relay. We derive the closed-form approximations for the spectral efficiencies (SEs) of the considered system. Then, we study the power-scaling laws for two typical scenarios, which show that as the number of the relay antennas M grows large, the SEs converge to positive limits when the power scaling factors αu of the users and αr of the relay satisfy αu = 1 or αr = 1, i.e., the transmit power of the users or the relay is scaled down proportionally to 1/M. Furthermore, for MRC/MRT and ZF processing methods, the optimal power allocation scheme we proposed largely improves the sum SEs compared with the average power scheme. Simulation results verify the correctness of the derived results. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Advancement in radar component technology has led to a reduction in the size, weight, and power consumption of radar systems. Experimental radar systems can now be integrated onto smaller, maneuverable platforms, such as small unmanned aerial vehicles (sUAVs). Integration onto rotor-based sUAVs enables data collection over novel synthetic apertures which can be optimized for different scenarios. The design, simulation, and experimentation of a light-weight, ultra-wideband synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is presented here that will be used for the detection of obscured surface targets. The approach outlined herein uses 3-dimensional (3-D) imagery to vertically resolve clutter from the target. A vertical-grid aperture is presented which yields vertical resolution. Point spread functions are derived for both linear and vertical-grid apertures. The analytical expressions are verified using simulations. Finally, experimental data is used to form 3-D imagery and demonstrate the importance of vertical resolution in the discrimination between scatterers above the ground, as well as clutter mitigation. © (2023). Parity-time (PT) reversal symmetry, as a representative example in the field of non-Hermitian physics, has attracted widespread research interest in the past few years due to its extraordinary wave dynamics. PT symmetry enables unique spectral singularities including the exceptional point (EP) degeneracy where two or more eigenvalues and eigenvectors coalesce, as well as the coherent perfect absorber-laser (CPAL) point where laser and its time-reversal counterpart (i.e., coherent perfect absorber) can coexist at the same frequency. These singular points not only give rise to new physical phenomena but also provide new plausibility for building the next-generation sensors and detectors with unprecedented sensitivity. To date, investigations into EPs and CPAL points have unveiled their great potential in various sensing scenarios across a broad spectral range, spanning optics, photonics, electronics, and acoustics. In this review article, we will discuss ongoing developments of EP- and CPAL-based sensors composed of PT-synthetic structures and offer a glimpse into the future research directions in this emerging field. © (2024), (Electromagnetics Academy). Natural ester oils are an environmentally friendly substitute for mineral oils that are commonly used as dielectric insulating liquid and coolant in power transformers. In this study, the real relative permittivity and DC breakdown voltage of a natural ester oil are experimentally examined. An accelerated degradation test employing 15 current impulses is employed to investigate the change of the basic electrical characteristics of the oil under study with the aid of a 1 MV/ 7 kJ Marx generator. Experimental results on the surge current withstand capability of the natural ester oil are presented and discussed. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose a scalable, hierarchical qubit mapping and routing algorithm that harnesses the power of circuit synthesis. First, we decompose large circuits into subcircuits small enough to be directly resynthesized. For each block, we pre-synthesize them for all permutations of its input and output qubits. Following this offline step, we employ a permutation-aware, block-based generalization of the popular SABRE mapping algorithm. This mapping step stitches together blocks by choosing an input-output permutation that minimizes intrablock gate count and required inter-block communication (SWAP and bridge gates). Our approach has a twofold advantage: 1) circuit synthesis may eliminate more two-qubit gates than other optimizing compilers;2) considering all permutations of input and output qubits eliminates communication operations transparently. In contrast, other mapping algorithms can only introduce communication operations. We show that we can produce better-quality circuits than commercial compilers: shorter by up to 68% (18% on average) fewer gates than Qiskit, up to 36% (9% on average) fewer gates than Tket. We outperform BQSkit, a permutation-unaware, synthesis-based compiler, by up to 67% (21% on average) fewer gates. We also exceed experimental optimal mappers such as OLSQ in quality (10.7% shorter circuits) and time to solution. Our scalable, heuristic approach can be seamlessly integrated into any quantum circuit compiler or optimization infrastructure, and it applies well to any qubit technology, such as superconducting and trapped ions. © 2023 IEEE.

Prediabetes detection in unconstrained conditions using wearable sensors

Prediabetes is a common health condition that often goes undetected until it progresses to type 2 diabetes. Early identification of prediabetes is essential for timely intervention and prevention of complications. This research explores the feasibility of using wearable continuous glucose monitoring along with smartwatches with embedded inertial sensors to collect glucose measurements and acceleration signals respectively, for the early detection of prediabetes. We propose a methodology based on signal processing and machine learning techniques. Two feature sets are extracted from the collected signals, based both on a dynamic modeling of the human glucose-homeostasis system and on the Glucose curve, inspired by three major glucose related blood tests. Features are aggregated per individual using bootstrap. Support Vector Machines are used to classify normoglycemic vs. prediabetic individuals. We collected data from 22 participants for evaluation. The results are highly encouraging, demonstrating high sensitivity and precision. This work is a proof of concept, highlighting the potential of wearable devices in prediabetes assessment. Future directions involve expanding the study to a larger, more diverse population and exploring the integration of CGM and smartwatch functionalities into a unified device. Automated eating detecting algorithms can also be used. © 2024 The Authors

Support Vector Machine(SVM)has become one of the traditional machine learning algorithms the most used in prediction and classification ***,its behavior strongly depends on some parameters,making tuning these parameters a sensitive step to maintain a good *** the other hand,and as any other classifier,the performance of SVM is also affected by the input set of features used to build the learning model,which makes the selection of relevant features an important task not only to preserve a good classification accuracy but also to reduce the dimensionality of *** this paper,the MRFO+SVM algorithm is introduced by investigating the recent manta ray foraging optimizer to fine-tune the SVM parameters and identify the optimal feature subset *** proposed approach is validated and compared with four SVM-based algorithms over eight benchmarking ***,it is applied to a disease Covid-19 *** experimental results show the high ability of the proposed algorithm to find the appropriate SVM’s parameters,and its acceptable performance to deal with feature selection problem.
