An optical machine system for measuring the depth distance of an object was proposed. This system can scan a region by obtaining the relationship curve between focus distance and motor step. The depth distance was acquired by determining whether the captured objects was in focus or not by discerning the sharpness of the object’s outline, with the motor step when the object was in focus. This system has been verified its feasibility in the experiment and has the merits of a larger sensing range, lower manufacturing cost, and can be used outdoors. © 2023 SPIE · 0277-786X ·

VANET (Vehicular Ad Hoc Network) was developed to address the unique challenges of communication in a mobile vehicular environment. This technology can enhance driving safety and traffic control. Moreover, similar principles can be applied to unmanned aerial vehicles and robotics. When transmitting data in moving vehicles, it is challenging as access points and base stations keep changing, requiring handovers between different access points and base stations. Clustering is a popular approach used to address this challenge. Common clustering strategies are based on the proximity, communication range, the density, the application requirements of the moving vehicles, or hybrid of them. In this paper, we propose a clustering strategy based on the application sublayer in the vehicle communication protocol. If two computing devices on the move run the same application, they can be grouped together. The contribution of this research is to develop a clustering mechanism based on the application with very low overhead. We also validate the proposed method through simulations. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method is feasible. © 2023 IEEE.

Several types of multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are widely used in various industrial activities. UAVs with electric ducted fans (EdFs) have been developed to mitigate the risks associated with rotary blades, which are installed on the exterior structure of conventional UAVs and exposed to the ambient environment. Particularly, vertical EdFs have become a focus in the field of UAV design because they require less space for the flow channel compared with horizontal EdFs. In this study, a vertical EdF UAV model was developed. Structural and flow field analysis was performed in Ansys software to determine the optimal design configuration. The results confirmed that the designed model facilitated smooth air flow with favorable inlet and outlet velocity. The vehicle structure required minor adjustment to reduce the frequency of occurrence of vortices. Overall, this study made two research contributions. First, an EdF UAV model was developed to mitigate the risk of rotary blades being exposed to the ambient environment. Second, a vertical EdF system was proposed to reduce the flow channel space and maintain the outlet velocity, thereby improving the takeoff, landing, and thrust performance of UAVs. © 2023 Institute of physics Publishing. Research on the study of houses, condominiums and buildings in Taiwan’s metropolitan areas continues to be an important area of research. In real estate forecasting and analysis, methods such as statistical analysis and questionnaire data collection are widely used. However, when multidimensional data is considered, these methods are time-consuming and inadequate. This study aimed to build a real estate forecasting model that can adapt to a changing environment. data were collected from public government databases, the collected data were standardized for accurate clustering, an appropriate data clustering algorithm was applied to the standardized data, and cross-statistical analysis was performed to verify the adopted algorithm. We used a deep learning based on autoencoder algorithm to increase the accuracy of the clustering analysis. A double-bottom map particle swarm optimization (dBM-PSO) clustering algorithm was then used to determine the optimal clustering solution. Cluster analysis and deep learning were conducted on data collected from public websites to understand the factors that led to the sustained increase in housing prices in Taiwan over the past decade. The results of this study indicate that three key factors—the number of real estate transactions, the average unit price of real estate transactions, and the building material and construction index—significantly affected real estate prices in Taiwan. Our results could help researchers and governments to focus on specific aspects of real estate development without being influenced by other related factors. In addition, the relationships between real estate trends and the aforementioned three key factors were determined to obtain valuable information that can enable the Taiwanese government to regulate the property market and prevent excessive growth. Wheelchair basketball for people with disabilities is a niche market with limited attention and resources due to its smaller scale. We utilize the characteristics of VR technology, combining wearable devices with physical wheelchair seating, to create a virtual and real interactive game of wheelchair basketball. This enables people with disabilities to exercise at home and allows the general public to experience the challenges of disability sports, fostering empathy and emphasizing the importance of social justice. © 2024 IEEE.

In this study, a reflective aspheric optical system is used to establish an eye examination device for distance and near vision tests. The system includes a micro-display with a rotating device, an off-axis parabolic mirror, an off-axis ellipsoid mirror, a chin-fixing bracket, and vision software. The display contents of the micro-display include English C and E charts, Chinese words, graphics, and animation. The off-axis parabolic mirror and off-axis ellipsoid mirror are confocal, and the micro-display is placed at the confocal point. The micro-display is projected through an off-axis parabolic mirror for myopia's distance vision testing, and an off-axis elliptical mirror for myopia's near vision testing. Others, the graphics and animation, provide visual checks for young children. In addition, CCd cameras and AI recognition can be used as visual examinations for people with language impairment. In this study, twenty-five subjects with the refractive error were tested using E-chart and this device to obtain the decimal point VA value, and the trial frame and lens were used to obtain the diopter of glasses. The date of the experimental results was used as a reference value for ophthalmological examination. This system uses an off-axis parabolic mirror and an off-axis ellipsoidal mirror. Optical alignment is a challenge to solve for the system. Students participating in the study obtained good optics training. The advantages of the developed device include the convenience to carry with a multi-purpose and straightforward use. © 2023 IEEE.

IC testing is essential in the semiconductor value chain, and it strengthens process control and effectively reduces packaging cost. The probe card (PC) is one of the key tools for IC testing. After a certain period of usage, the PC requires regular maintenance/adjustment. This paper investigates the design / development methods for the automatic probe card adjustment (PCA) machine, including the system architecture design, high precision automation algorithm, and the system integration to guarantee the final precision accuracy of ±2.5um with the direct touch of the operators' hand. © 2023 IEEE.

Multi-objective multi-population simplified swarm optimization for container loading optimization with practical constraints

The container loading problem (CLP) holds significant importance in logistics and supply chain management due to its direct influence on transportation costs and times, thereby impacting the competitive advantages of enterprises across industries. Although there are existing studies for CLP, there remains a gap in addressing the optimization of multiple objectives while satisfying practical constraints. Moreover, container loading methods must also meet performance requirements such as high computational speed, explainability, and implementation capability. Although meta-heuristic-based algorithms have shown effective computational capabilities and performance, such algorithms often being trapped in the local optima especially when searching in the vast solution space of the CLP, particularly as the quantity and diversity of cargo sizes and shapes increase. Motivated by realistic needs, this study aims to develop a UNISON-based framework that integrates the merging spaces algorithm, a novel simple but effective hybrid simplified swarm optimization genetic algorithm (SSO-GA), and a multi-populations co-evolution strategy to determine the loading sequence of parcels to maximize space utilization and weight balance while satisfying to practical constraints. Specifically, the merging spaces algorithm merges fragmented small spaces resulting from loaded parcels into larger spaces, thereby facilitating the accommodation of additional parcels. The hybrid SSO-GA splits encoded solutions and updates segment using novel strategies resulting in the rearrangement of a group of parcels and their corresponding layouts for better space utilization. Furthermore, the multi-populations co-evolution strategy enhances the diversity of the search space and stabilizes solution quality by simultaneously exploiting the best solutions and exploring alternative solutions during the solution update process. This paper uses the transmission mechanism of a coaxial counter-rotating rotorcraft equipped with blade designs of different airfoils. The blades are all made of aluminum alloy 6061T6. To study the deformation of the aluminum alloy blades of the rotorcraft when it hovers. It investigates the deformation and vibration displacement of the blade under the influence of aeroelasticity under the condition of fixed angle of attack and different rotation speeds. The airfoils used for study mainly consider the NACA0012 symmetrical airfoil and the other improved design Viper-X asymmetrical airfoil (A0) as test objects. The angle of attack used in the study is 10°, and the rotational speeds used are medium rotational speed ranges such as 400rpm, 450 rpm, 500 rpm, 550 rpm, and 600 rpm. A non-contact laser displacement sensor was used as the experimental measurement method for data measurement in this study. Finally, when the rotational speed exceeds 500rpm, the improved design of the asymmetric airfoil A0 is indeed more stable than the symmetrical airfoil NACA0012. © 2024 SPIE.

This study proposed a novel extraction method of c-Fos protein regions in dAB(3,3'-diaminobenzidine)-stained mouse brain slice images using the U-Net model combined with the multi-channelization and 1×1 convolution techniques. Our U-Net m odel, called 1× 1 conv U-Net, was applied to three dAB- strainedmouse slice images whose resolutions were 1000x1000 pixels. The experimental results demonstrated that the 1×1 conv U-Net outperformed the conventional U-Net. © 2024 IEEE.
