Peer-to-peer conference is an interactive multi-users conferencing application that improves the issues of concentrated loading, single-point failure and expensive infrastructure cost for the traditional centralized conference model, according to the conference resource shared by each other. The benefit of non-centralized system can be achieved by using P2P-SIP. However, unlike the traditional centralized architecture, the conference resource is provided by each peer user. How to search the heterogeneous resource efficiently is a key point in the dynamic and distributed environment. Thus, we proposed a multi-constraint resource search algorithm for P2P-SIP conferencing services. In the full distributed environment, users can search a usable resource to reduce the call-setup time and save the conferencing cost according to the conferencing scale and the quality requirements. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2012.

In this paper, we adopt the two quasi-sliding mode control for a class of multivariable discrete time bilinear systems. By applying the proposed control strategies, the system states would move into a boundary layer of the sliding surface and remain in the boundary layer in finite time. Thus, the stability of the overall system could be guaranteed. Finally, the computer simulation is applied to illustrate the control performance of the proposed control strategies.

A method for deriving a set of linear transfer functions for a single phase grid tied system is presented, which can be used to determine how small signal perturbations and transients on the utility side are translated through the inverter to the dc link, as well as assist in controller design. These transfer functions can be used by a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) designer to predict what harmonics the battery will see in the field, without the need for expensive simulation software. With this information, battery designers will be able to design a more robust battery specifically tailored for single phase inverter applications.

There is a lack of published studies providing empirical support for the assumption at the heart of product line development, namely, that through structured reuse later products will be less fault-prone. This paper presents results from an empirical study of pre-release fault and change proneness from four products in an industrial software product line. The objectives of the study are (1) to determine the association between various software metrics, as well as their correlation with the number of faults at the component level, (2) to characterize the fault and change proneness at various degrees of reuse, and (3) to determine how existing products in the software product line affect the quality of subsequently developed products and our ability to make predictions. The research results confirm, in a software product line setting, the findings of others that faults are more highly correlated to change metrics than to static code metrics. Further, the results show that variation components unique to individual products have the highest fault density and are the most prone to change. The longitudinal aspect of our research indicates that new products in this software product line benefit from the development and testing of previous products. For this case study, the number of faults in variation components of new products is predicted accurately using a linear model built on data from the previous products.

This paper describes a method to design a predistorter (PD) for a power amplifier (PA) with a memory effect by using nonlinear parameters extracted from measured intermodulation distortion (IMD) for a GaN-FET amplifier. To improve the computational efficiency, the updating of a cancellation signal is provided by an iterative algorithm. It is confirmed that the proposed algorithm attains computational intensity lower than half of a memory polynomial. A computer simulation has clarified that the PD improves the adjacent channel leakage power ratio (ACLR) of OFDM signals with several hundred subcarriers corresponding to 4G mobile radio communications. It has been confirmed that a fifth-order PD is effective up to a higher power level. The improvement of error vector magnitude (EVM) by the PD is also simulated for OFDM signals of which the subcarrier channels are modulated by 16 QAM.

We use spectroscopic imaging to investigate the enhancement of infra-red to visible upconversion in rare-earth doped nano-particles (NaYF 4:Yb:Er) supported on nano-fabricated plasmonic substrates consisting of square lattices of Au nano-pillars fabricated by electron beam lithography and designed to support a surface plasmon polariton at frequencies which are near-resonant with the rare-earth ion (Yb3+) absorption. We observe a systematic enhancement in the efficiency of upconversion associated with the interaction of the co-doped nano-particles with the plasmonic substrate. Spectrally-resolved imaging provides a massively parallel means of assessing the range of achievable enhancement and its relation to the specific configuration of the substrate / upconverting nano-particle system. Spectrally-resolved reflectivity of the plasmonic substrates confirms the role of the surface plasmon polariton in the upconversion enhancement. Experimental results are compared to Finite Difference Time Domain simulations of the frequency-dependent reflectivity of these metallic nanostructures. © 2012 Materials Research Society.

There has been a significant amount of research in new algorithms and applications for nonnegative matrix factorization, but relatively little has been published on practical considerations for real-world applications, such as choosing optimal parameters for a particular application. In this paper, we will look at two applications, single-channel source separation of speech and interpolating missing music data. We will present the optimal parameters found for the experiments as well as discuss how parameters affect performance.

Functionalized individual semiconductor nanowires (SNWs) and 3D SNW arrays attract a continuously growing interest for applications in optoelectronics, sensing, and energy storage. High-resolution field-emission analytical (scanning) transmission electron microscopy ((S)TEM) enables critical insights into the morphology, crystalline and electronic structures and chemical composition of single-crystalline high-aspect-ratio SNWs as prospective building blocks suitable for both a large scale-up synthesis and fabrication. Furthermore, SNW-based lab-on-a-chip devices may allow direct correlation between functional properties tailored for specific performance and the heterostructure morphology and atomic arrangement of the nanoscale structure being analyzed in various (S)TEM modes.

OFDM PON has been considered to be one of the most prominent next-generation broadband wired access solutions. However, based on the current tree-architecture, existing OFDM PON systems face severe challenges when increasing the scalability and data-rate performance. In this paper, we propose a novel virtual-tree architecture of an OFDMA PON system (VTOPS). Coupled with the use of inexpensive direct modulation, VTOPS simultaneously achieves high reliability, scalability, and spectrum efficiency (i.e., high data rate) in a cost-effective manner. Theoretical and experimental results demonstrate that, by applying the pre-emphasis algorithm and subchannel adaptive modulation, VTOPS achieves 40-Gb/s downlink and uplink transmissions using low-cost 10-GHz directly modulated lasers.
