This paper presents initial neural recording results with a 64-channel wireless cortical microsystem. The system can be programmed and powered using an inductive telemetry link, switching an RF carrier between 4 and 8MHz to enter command information. Recorded neural activity is returned to the external world wirelessly over an on-off-keyed 80MHz carrier. The system can be programmed to detect positive, negative, and biphasic spikes on all the channels simultaneously or can monitor one channel with 8 bits of resolution. It has recorded single units from guinea pig auditory cortex over periods of 30 days.

Visualization of remotely-sensed meteorological data has traditionally consisted of two dimensional maps. However, the technological advancements in recent years have allowed data to be collected in new and unique ways and with greatly increased range and density. In particular, data are now collected at discrete locations within a volume, as opposed to points on a surface. The data volume, as opposed to an image, necessitates a different form of visualization. Unlike common techniques that stick on two dimensional maps, the main focus for the new techniques is showing the precipitation and other meteorological data in a more intuitive manner. This paper will introduce one of several possible ways to visualize a volume dataset. In this particular case rain intensity values gathered by NASA's TRMM satellite deliver a stereotypic volume dataset.

We report exceptional ductile behavior in individual double-walled and triple-walled carbon nanotubes at temperatures above 2000 °C, with tensile elongation of 190% and diameter reduction of 90%, during in situ tensile-loading experiments conducted inside a high-resolution transmission electron microscope. Concurrent atomic-scale microstructure observations reveal that the superelongation is attributed to a high temperature creep deformation mechanism mediated by atom or vacancy diffusion, dislocation climb, and kink motion at high temperatures. The superelongation in double-walled and triple-walled carbon nanotubes, the creep deformation mechanism, and dislocation climb in carbon nanotubes are reported here for the first time.
