After Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) established in Jakarta, a change of air quality was indicated by the citizens. Representatives of Indonesia's Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) supported as the fact that mobility of Jakarta's citizen and commuters were reduced. With utilizing Weather Data Acquisition System managed by BMKG, this research compared fluctuations of Jakarta's air quality during two periods of time: Pre-PSBB and During-PSBB. This study proved that Jakarta's air quality has positively improved compared to the previous year, although in the lower range of unhealthy level. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A wide variety of disciplines contribute to bioinformatics research, including computer science, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. This study determines the number of research articles published on arXiv classified as bioinformatics topics and the most frequently used bioinformatics terms using topic modeling, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). An algorithm based on LDA is used to discover topics hidden within large collections of documents through the use of statistical analysis. Our research examined 226453 articles on arXiv between January 2023 and January 2024. As a result, there are more than 10521 articles categorized into bioinformatics topics. Most commonly, 6352 documents are in the "Mathematical Physics" category. The second most popular category is "Computer Science," with 2950 documents. Accordingly, the terms 'RNA,' 'sequence,' 'tree,' and 'homology' are the three most commonly used terms in bioinformatics. The study of RNA plays a vital role in molecular biology; thus, the study of RNA is prevalent in bioinformatics. Sequential data refer to the order in which nucleotides or amino acids can be found in a DNA molecule or a protein.

Semi-automated meningioma segmentation with bounding boxes

Segmentation is manually performed by physicians, which takes considerable time and may be subject to observers. Automating this task can increase efficiency and consistency. Existing studies on meningioma segmentation used data from limited study centers, indicating the need for research on multi-center data to assess generalizability. In this work, two semi-automated methods with bounding box priors, LiteMedSAM and BBU-Net, are evaluated on the brain tumor segmentation (BraTS) 2023 meningioma dataset collected from five study-centers. Preprocessing included exclusion of small tumors, z-score normalization, and extraction of slices that contain tumors, generating 25,602 2D axial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. A fine-tuning strategy is adopted for LiteMedSAM while BBU-Net is trained from scratch. The models are evaluated using a five-fold cross-validation, with data split at the case level. Results show that while U-Net models can achieve performance close to LiteMedSAM, the foundation model has overall better performance, with more than 90% in all evaluation scores.

The automation of experiments in life sciences and chemistry has significantly advanced with the development of various instruments and AI technologies. However, achieving full laboratory automation, where experiments conceived by scientists are seamlessly executed in automated laboratories, remains a challenge. We identify the lack of automation in planning and operational tasks—critical human-managed processes collectively termed "care"—as a major barrier. Automating care is the key enabler for full laboratory automation. To address this, we propose the concept of self-maintainability (SeM): the ability of a laboratory system to autonomously adapt to internal and external disturbances, maintaining operational readiness akin to living cells. A SeM-enabled laboratory features autonomous recognition of its state, dynamic resource and information management, and adaptive responses to unexpected conditions. This shifts the planning and execution of experimental workflows, including scheduling and reagent allocation, from humans to the system. We present a conceptual framework for implementing SeM-enabled laboratories, comprising three modules—Requirement manager, Labware manager, and Device manager—and a Central manager. SeM not only enables scientists to execute envisioned experiments seamlessly but also provides developers with a design concept that drives the technological innovations needed for full automation. Precise predictions of indoor climate conditions are required in the implementation of Smart Solar Dryer Dome (SDD). Trend development of prediction models is discussed in this review from 15 selected research papers (2018–2022) on indoor climate prediction which was obtained from research paper databases The output shows that the most used model for predicting indoor climate is Artificial Neural Network (ANN), especially Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) such as LSTM and GRU. However, there are some potential methods such as Transformer, Combined Support Vector Machines (SVM)-Deep Learning, and sequence-to-sequence which could outperform other commonly used models. Based on findings various opportunities exist to improve the precision of indoor climate prediction, which can bring power consumption efficiency and others benefit to Smart SDD users. Such studies may further be explored to produce more accurate machine learning models.

Transformer models, originally successful in natural language processing, are now being applied to chemical and biological studies, excelling in areas such as molecular property prediction, material science, and drug discovery. BERT, a Transformer-based model, has become foundational in cheminformatics, particularly for QSAR (Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship) modeling and ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity) evaluations in drug discovery. However, achieving higher accuracy often requires designing more complex models, which can compromise their interpretability. This posing a challenge for researchers who need to understand the reasoning behind the predictions. The trade-off between accuracy and interpretability presents a critical challenge in applying black box models to real-world problems in cheminformatics. This work compares Transformer-based models with traditional machine learning and deep learning approaches, focusing on both interpretability and performance. The goal is to highlight the strengths and limitations of each method, offering insights into their optimal use in drug discovery and material science.

Dengue fever is mainly caused by female mosquitoes from the genus Aedes. It predominantly occurs in equatorial to sub-tropical regions. The weather factors play a significant role in the mosquito life cycle, so a study on the impact of climate parameters on dengue incidence is required. This study aimed to understand the statistical association between the annual fluctuation of dengue cases with climate factors in Indonesia. Climatic data, annual rainfall, and annual mean ambient temperature of Indonesia were obtained from *** from 2010 to 2020, while the data on the annual incidence of dengue fever in Indonesia were collected from the Indonesian Health Profile by the Ministry of Health of Indonesia from 2010 to 2020. The association between climatic factors with dengue cases was calculated with Spearman statistical test after the data was indicated as not normally distributed. In addition, we performed Poisson regression analysis to examine how the changes in climatic parameters affect the dengue cases. The rain precipitation was insignificantly correlated with the dengue incidence in Indonesia during the study time. In contrast, the ambient temperature statistically showed a strong association with the dengue cases. The association between climatic factors and the number of dengue cases suggests that the model would likely be prospectively applied to the dengue early warning system as a nationwide intervention to reduce the epidemic impact in Indonesia.

Foreground segmentation is one of moving object detection techniques of computer vision applications. To date, modern moving object detection methods require complex background modeling and thresholds tuning to confront illumination changes. This paper proposes an adaptive approach based on non-overlapping block texture representation. It aims to design a computationally light and efficient solution to improve the robustness of detection. We evaluate our proposed method on internal and public sequences and provide the quantitative and qualitative measurements. Experimental results show that the proposed method can improve the results of previous method and suitable for real-time challenges. © 2018 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Sentiment analysis is crucial method in business intelligence to extract insights, which typically begin with sentiment classification. One of the latest frameworks for generating sentence embeddings for sentiment classification is LLM2Vec, which allows Transformer decoder-based models to generate sentence embeddings for text representation. Its capability is deemed language-agnostic, which, in this study, the framework is leveraged for Tokopedia tweet sentiment analysis to prove the claim. The base decoder models used in the LLM2Vec framework were Llama 3 8B, Llama 2 7B, Sheared Llama 1.3B, and Mistral 7B. Two BERT-based models, which are the Indonesian SBERT model and IndoBERT trained with the SimCSE approach, were employed as a comparison. The generated embeddings were classified using logistic regression, SVM, and MLP Classifier. Classifiers using embedding generated by LLM2Vec with Llama 3 8B and Mistral 7B achieves on-par performance with classifiers that utilize IndoBERT SimCSE embeddings, while classifiers using embeddings generated by LLM2Vec with Llama 2 7B and Sheared Llama 1.3B achieves much lower performance. Classifiers with Indonesian SBERT embeddings achieve the highest F1 score performance. Despite slightly lower performance, this study has proven the language-agnostic capability of LLM2Vec, especially with Llama 3 8B and Mistral 7B in colloquial Bahasa Indonesia sentiment analysis, since none of the base decoders were ever trained using the Bahasa Indonesia corpus. © 2024 IEEE.
