In the past 2 years, we have been conducting routine hypocenter relocation in Indonesia. We compiled and conducted hypocenter relocation of ∼50.000 events from a magnitude of 1.4 to 8.5 recorded by 451 stations around and outside Indonesia region. We used local, regional, and teleseismic arrival time data from Indonesian Agency of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) catalog from April 2009 to March 2018. We performed teleseismic double-difference relocation inversion using our previous study of 3D seismic velocity model beneath the Indonesian region with grid size 1° by 1° for inside Indonesia region and 1D global seismic velocity model from AK135 for outside Indonesia region. This method improved limitation from BMKG earthquake data catalog in which events were recorded from scattered seismic station array and insufficient azimuthal gap around Indonesia. Our results show that travel-time RMS residuals were greatly reduced compared to those of the BMKG catalog and the hypocenter location shows significant improvement, refining to the geological structure, especially trench and major faults. These hypocenter relocation results can be helpful for another seismic study in Indonesia region that required a precise hypocenter location e.g. body wave tomography and probability seismic hazard analysis. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. Indonesia is located along the archipelago which has abundance of volcanoes along the arc. Therefore, Indonesia has a very high geothermal energy potential, such as the Rendingan-Ulubelu-Waypanas Geothermal Field in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province. Geophysical exploration is required to characterize the subsurface geothermal system. One of the methods that can be used is gravity method. The data used in this study is an analog Rendingan-Ulubelu-Waypanas Geothermal Field Complete Bouguer Anomaly Map of 2005. The analog map was then converted into digital map for further data processing. Separation of regional and residual Bouguer anomalies has been performed using moving average and spectral filter methods, in which the spectral analysis was conducted in 1D and 2D. The value of Bouguer background density used for 2.5D subsurface modeling is 2.67 g/cc. The gravity anomalies obtained in this study can be interpreted as follow. The existence of high anomalies under Mount Waypanas was interpreted as a Tertiary intrusion of granite with a density contrast of 0.22 g/cc. While low anomalies in the northern part was interpreted as a Quaternary intrusion of diorite with a density contrast of -0.22 g/cc, which acts as the heat source of the system. The reservoir of the system is the Quaternary young volcanics exposed on the surface with averaged thickness of 1500 m. We concluded that the fluid flow in this geothermal system is the meteoric water from Mount Rendingan and Mount Tanggamus, which has a higher topography, flows to a lower topography area in the Mount Waypanas, The fluid flow also creates an upflow under Mount Rendingan. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. The Sumatran fault zone has a high seismicity and seismic hazard threat levels due to this fracture through densely populated areas. The fault zone of Sumatera has 19 main segments which each segment has the possibility to generate a strong earthquake. Therefore, in this study we attempt to improve the accuracy of hypocenter locations which is needed as basic analysis in advance seismology and in seismic hazard analysis. The final objective of this study is to analyze the subsurface seismic velocity structure of the Sumatran fault by applying seismic tomography method. For the preliminary result, we have been conducting double-difference method to relocate 967 events recorded by 49 stations compiled by Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia (MCGA) from 2009 to 2017 along Sumatran fault. Our preliminary results from the relocation proces indicate prominent features of event cluster around Sumatra fault system. The next step, we will improve the onset of P-and S-wave arrival time by using waveform cross-correlation in order to get more reliable hypocenter location. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. The Complete Bouguer Anomaly (CBA) map from 1997 gravity survey at Karaha-Telaga Bodas, West Java, Indonesia is used to make a model of the subsurface geothermal system. A two-dimensional cross-section of the system is produced using a 2.5-D forward modeling. Initially, the print CBA maps of the Karaha-Telaga Bodas geothermal system is digitized. Next, the digital map is separated by using the moving average and spectral filtering methods, so a regional and residual anomaly maps are obtained. The subsurface modelling is made based on geological information of the area to produce a model that can represents the real condition as similar as possible. The line chosen for modelling has a North - South orientation, passing through Karaha and Telaga Bodas to foresee both of the geothermal system in one cross-section. Subsurface model interpretation shows that there are two separate granodiorite intrusion body with density contrast of 0.5 g/cc below Karaha - Telaga Bodas. This conclusion coincides with the intrusion body found during drilling operation. The intrusion body is possibly the heat source of the system. The reservoir of this system is interpreted as volcanic breccia with thickness of two kilometres in Telaga Bodas and keeps thinning towards Karaha. The fluids of the Karaha-Telaga Bodas Geothermal System are estimated to come from acid sulphate water and meteoric water entering from Telaga Bodas, as well as meteoric water entering from Karaha. The ethanol manufacturing plant located in Phanomsarakham district, Chachoengsao province east of Thailand. The plant requires to improve the process by replacing a new boiler with capacity for generating 30 tons per hour of saturated steam. The boiler selection process is determining the steam required for the process, then determine the fuels available and their usability after that compare different types of boiler and finish the process with boiler purchasing. There are four available fuels in the area where the case study plant located are bituminous coal, wood, fuel oil C, and LPG. Consider by compared the heating value, fuel required to consume by the boiler and reference of each. The most possibility of fuel for the case study plant is bituminous coal. © 2019 IEEE.

The practicality of extracting natural resonant modes from the late-time target responses of conducting rectangular plates with various length-to-width ratios is studied using the matrix pencil method. The extracted resonant modes follow a similar behavior as the results obtained from a theoretical analysis reported in the literature. Our results show that it is feasible for these modes to be excited using a practical system, which opens the opportunities for automated target recognition.

Oil and natural gas are energy resources with high demand, so it is very important to implement enhanced oil recovery technology in old fields to obtain optimum oil production. The enhanced oil recovery technology that will be discussed on this occasion is more specifically related to the gas flooding method, namely nitrogen flooding. Nitrogen flooding is currently used more often as an alternative to CO2 flooding. However, the limitation of this method is that it is only effective when used in a field with a high depth, because it requires a constant high pressure and temperature so that this gas can dissolve into the reservoir fluid. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a more in-depth study of the nitrogen flooding method, so that its application can get optimal, efficient, and economical results. The results of laboratory research were carried out to study the displacement of crude oil using the high pressure nitrogen injection method. It aims to study the effect of temperature and GOR on crude oil recovery and the solubility process in high pressure nitrogen injection. In addition, the effectiveness of nitrogen injection after water flooding, and the effect of propane slug driven by nitrogen injection were also analyzed. There are nine types of experiments carried out using crude oil 42.3° API which is recombined with natural gas. This experiment used two temperatures, 70° F and 120° F, and three GORs, namely 575 scf/stb, 400 scf/stb, and 200 scf/stb. The reservoir model used was a stainless steel tube 125 feet long and 0.435 inches in diameter, packed with consolidated sand to provide an average permeability of 910 mD. The recovery factor in nitrogen injection is influenced by the gas content in the system. If the gas content is high, then nitrogen injection will result in a higher oil recovery compared to conditions where the gas content is low.

CO2 injection into the hydrocarbon reservoir affects the subsurface mechanics and hydraulic condition. The injection has to be performed in a way that there will be no reservoir and/or top seal failure. In such case, a simulation of the injected fluid propagation needs to be performed to see its possible impact to the top seal and existing major faults. We use finite element method to perform this injection simulation. In this research, we use open source software Finite Element Heat and Mass Transfer Code (FEHM) to simulate CO2 injection processes into reservoir. Subsurface geological model was constructed in a dimension of 3000 m (easting) x 3000 m (northing) x 2000 m (vertical). Vertically, it consists of four layers which represent upper layer (400 m), top seal (200 m), reservoir (900 m), and basement (500m). The grid around the reservoir rocks is refined to give more detail results. The open hole injection is set at 850 - 890 m depth, 1500 m easting and 1500 m northing. The material is assumed to be isotropic. The initial pressure and temperature increase as a function of depth with a pressure gradient of 0.00981 MPa/m and a temperature gradient of 0.025 degrees C/m. A vertical fault is modelled at 600 m eastern to the injection well. Injection process is carried out with 6 kg/s of CO2 injection with simulation time for ten years to see its impact to the fault. A vertical fault is The modelling results show that the CO2 injection will not reactivate the fault at 10 years. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

Wastewater management is a pressing global concern, demanding effective, efficient, cost-friendly, and user-friendly solutions. Among the various methods available, adsorption has emerged as a practical choice. The primary culprits responsible for many human diseases in wastewater are heavy metals and dyes. In this study, we successfully harnessed low-cost biochar derived from human feces and Chlorella vulgaris to significantly accelerate and enhance the removal of heavy metals and dyes. Human feces and Chlorella vulgaris were transformed into biochar under three distinct conditions: biochar, Chlorella vulgaris, and a combination of both. Notably, these materials exhibited exceptional capabilities, removing heavy metals and dyes by as much as 98 % within a mere 10-minute timeframe. This material have adsorption capacity up to 56.8 mg/g for Mn and 20 mg/g for Methylene Blue. To comprehensively evaluate the performance of the optimal samples, we conducted a battery of tests, including performance assessments, sorption capacity measurements, exploration of five isotherm models, and kinetic analyses. Furthermore, we elucidated the sorption mechanisms through thorough characterizations of the materials using SEM, XRD, FTIR, and XRF, providing holistic insights into their properties. This study extends its relevance beyond the laboratory, offering valuable insights into future prospects and policy recommendations. In doing so, it serves as a pivotal resource for researchers and governmental bodies alike, facilitating progress in wastewater treatment and environmental policy development. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

The inherent fragility of ceramic materials is an obstacle to producing ceramics that are resistant and hard. Furthermore, the use of monolithic ceramic plate armour for ballistic applications is challenging because the protections need to resist multiple impacts. One of the solutions are mosaic ceramic armour systems, which consist of ceramic tiles arranged side by side. However, there is a wide variety of ceramic tile formats, as well as different dimensions. Unlike monolithic ceramics, mosaic systems present different behaviour when subjected to a ballistic event. As a result, their energy dissipation mechanisms and the properties necessary for this purpose are distinct. The main properties of ceramic tiles are hardness, modulus of elasticity, and fracture toughness, of which the latter, according to the analysis of figures of merit, must be as low as possible, as opposed to hardness and modulus of elasticity, which are desired to be as high as possible. We can efficiently take advantage of brittle fracture mechanisms to absorb the kinetic energy of the projectile during the tile fracture. Furthermore, the gap-filling material is extremely important, as it allows the confinement of the ceramic tiles and reduces the spread of damage. Numerical analysis is a great ally for the study of ballistic ceramics, and countless variables can be considered, enabling results very close to experimental ones at a low cost. Thus, it is possible to understand the key factors for producing more efficient ballistic ceramics as well as obtaining research data that can contribute to the evolution of the ballistic protection sector. In this context, this work presents a review of ceramic mosaics for ballistic amours.
