Integrated geoscience data evaluation is needed to determine the location of the heat source in the Tompaso Geothermal Field. The location of the heat source in the Tompaso Geothermal Field should be known to update the conceptual model. The updated conceptual model can be used as a reference in development plans of Tompaso Geothermal Field. Therefore, through integrated geoscience data evaluation such as geological settings, remote sensing data, resistivity and gravity data, fluid chemistry data, and temperature measurements data from wells are expected to determine the presence of the heat sources, especially beneath Umeh Volcanic Complex (UVC) in the Tompaso Geothermal Field. Based on geological and remote sensing data, the location of heat sources of Tompaso Geothermal Field are predicted beneath Sempu Volcanic Complex (SVC) and Umeh Volcanic Complex (UVC). SVC is related to recent volcanic activity while UVC is related to "monogenetic"volcanism. The gravity data beneath SVC showed high gravity anomaly contrasts than its surrounding areas, while high gravity anomaly beneath UVC has lower contrast than SVC. However, chemical fluid analysis from thermal manifestations and temperature from the wells indicated the presence of heat source beneath UVC. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A new Y-doped Al-Hf-Nb-Ti-V refractory high-entropy alloy (RHEA) system was developed as a candidate material for high-temperature structural applications. Microstructural investigation and X-ray diffraction characterization indicated that the as-cast alloy exhibits a non-homogeneous microstructure with distinct dendritic and interdendritic regions. The addition of equimolar ratio of Al to the HfNbTiV RHEA resulted in an amorphous phase and a small amount of intermetallic phase formation. The enthalpy calculation revealed that this alloy has a mixing enthalpy of -16.2 ***-1 and a delta parameter of 5.8%, which are considerably lower negative and lower, respectively, compared with the conventional high entropy alloys. The addition of minor Y element slightly increases the value of [[EQUATION]] and δ which suppresses the occurrence of the amorphous phase and contributes to the intermetallic compound formation by increasing the amount of strongly chemically attracted atomic pairs (SCAAPs) Al-Hf and Al-Y beyond a critical value. © 2023, The Authors. The Borborema Pegmatitic Province – BPP situated between Paraiba and Rio Grande do Norte states in Brazilian northeast presents several pegmatites occurrences. In the region of the county of Pedra Lavrada – PB, are observed various mineral occurrences where the pegmatites have been explored with prominence at Alto Dois Irmãos-PB pegmatite, in what quartz, feldspar and mica are extracted. Because an existence of a complex mineralogy of the pegmatites, the understanding about mineral constituent is fundamental to define its industrial employment and also to implement improvements in beneficiation process. The proposal of this research line is the detailed characterization and proof that part of the ore (quartz) considered sterile, presents low poisoning (Fe2O3) and high silica (SiO2) content, to enable its industrial use mainly to nobler purposes. Also will be fundamental to minimize the environmental impact and decrease the grinding energetic consume. Besides that, the obtained results of this research will be used in a future work, as inputs in simulation stage, aiming to optimize the researched beneficiation unity grinding process. To the pegmatite characterization were done density determination tests, mineralogical identification by X-ray diffraction (XRD), chemical analysis by fluorescents X-rays and morphological analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS). Then were done tests to Work Index (WI) calculous. The sterile (quartz extraction) from pegmatite mining in Pedra Lavrada/PB presented medium density of 2,66g/cm3, majority chemical composition of silicon and oxygen and quartz as the mainly mineralogical stage, through X-ray diffractograms and scanning electron microscopy images, what indicates that this material has high purity. The Work Index (WI) was 15,9 kwh/t, showing that this material presents in the pegmatite can be consider resistant to breaking in grinding process. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Massive and continuous well pumping can result in significant groundwater table decline, potentially leading to groundwater depletion and land subsidence over the long term. The timelapse microgravity method, an innovation in gravity measurement techniques, is currently widely used in hydrological applications, including groundwater table monitoring. Groundwater pumping induces changes in subsurface mass distribution, resulting in subsurface mass anomalies that can be detected using gravity method. Many previous studies have employed the slab Bouguer approach to estimate gravity anomalies due to groundwater table changes. This method has significant error for detail anomaly value of groundwater table, which is high decline near production wells. According to Theis formula, the groundwater table decline model as drawdown cone (inverted cone), which gravitational field is calculated. Therefore, calculated gravity anomaly must account for the drawdown cone shape. In this study, gravity anomaly calculations for groundwater drawdown cones are resolved by integrating triple integrals using cylindrical coordinates both analytical and numerical methods. The analytical calculation of integrating triple integrals can only be resolved for two variables (variable z and [[EQUATION]]), and for [[EQUATION]] variable is calculated using numerical methods with the trapezoidal rule. By making the trapezoidal step smaller for closer the well, it is expected this calculation has smaller errors. This study aims to provide more accurate gravity anomaly calculations in accordance with the conceptual model of groundwater table changes. This technique can be used to help groundwater management where monitoring wells is insufficient. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Mercury sources influence human health, especially in urban areas with high population density and intensive anthropogenic activities. Barangay Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa, Palawan in South-Eastern Philippines, was one of the mercury hotspots with cinnabar as a primary mineral. The mines had to close because of economic downtrends during the 1970s. Several samples were taken from the area, and concentration distribution was determined to identify potential hazard exposure. Doses contacted through ingestion, inhalation, and dermal absorption were calculated using US EPA exposure parameters. The soil was found to be enriched in Hg with the highest Total Hg (THg) recorded at 977.70 ppm. The correlation of soil pH and Hg shows a 0.64 decrease in THg for every unit increase in pH. High THg was noted during the rainy season and tended to erode mercury-laden soil into the river. The highest risk is associated with ingestion and dermal absorption, with negligible risk through air inhalation. The samples near the abandoned quicksilver mines recorded the highest THg concentrations with a hazard index (HI) greater than 1, signifying possible adverse health risks for the nearby residents. Mercury soil contamination maps indicated sources of the contamination, which can help future studies for remediation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper examines the effect of a halfspace on the residues of the extracted resonant modes of an obliquely-oriented conductive wire target above it. Previous studies have focused on the case where the target is in free space, but in this case, the halfspace interacts electromagnetically with the target and alters the residue. The results show that the residue of the fundamental mode is affected by the dielectric properties of the halfspace, while the residues of higher-order modes remain similar as the properties change. These findings provide insights for designing automated recognition solutions for targets above halfspaces.

The development of geothermal fields in Indonesia is carried out under the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations, namely Geothermal Law No. 21 of 2014 and Environmental Protection and Management Law No. 32 of 2009. Based on Law No. 21 of 2014, geothermal business activities consist of preliminary surveys, exploration, and exploitation. After the exploration phase (a detailed geological, geochemical, and geophysical study), a pre-feasibility study is needed to determine the feasibility of exploration drilling. The pre-feasibility study is done to manage project risks. Danau Ranau geothermal field is one of the 166 medium enthalpy geothermal prospects in Indonesia. Activities carried out in this field were geoscience studies. This research was conducted to determine how feasible the Danau Ranau medium enthalpy geothermal field was developed for direct and indirect utilization by looking at the acceptance of technical, financial, environmental, and risk studies. The study can be a tool for the developer to decide whether to continue the next development stage. The result shows that applying the approach for Danau Ranau Geothermal Field is feasible to develop with consideration. Plant of Development by cascade model with leveling utility of energy for Danau Ranau Geothermal Field shows optimal value both in the operational and financial sides. The first level is technically designed for electricity with ORC conversion technology and the cascade level for indirect use by Lindal Diagram and community empowerment in economic and social. In financial analysis, the cascade model has optimum profitability value expressed in NPV and equity IRR. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Lumut Balai is geothermal field that occurs in the caldera system, named Lumut Tua Caldera, approximately 9 km in diameter. Located in Penindaian Village, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province. Lumut Balai is one of the fields operated by Pertamina Geothermal Energy. The volcanism in Lumut Balai is closely related to the Sumatra Fault Systems activity. Surface data such as outcrops provide information regarding lithology, alteration type, and geological structures, while manifestations provide fluid geochemistry data. Subsurface data are acquired from rock cuttings and core samples (which are then further analyzed through petrographic analysis and XRD analysis), drilling parameters, and borehole image logging. These provide information and interpretation of subsurface geological conditions such as lithology distribution, alteration distribution, reservoir zone, heat source, and permeability. The methods above result in an interpretation of the Lumut Balai geological model. Lumut Balai is a geothermal system located within the Lumut Balai caldera, composed of andesite, andesite breccia, basaltic andesite, basalt, limestone, meta-sediment, tuff, and tuff breccia which are all altered to certain extents. There are five stratigraphic units, starting from the oldest to youngest are Tertiary Basement Unit, Pre-Old Lumut Unit, Pre-Caldera Unit, Caldera Unit, and Post-Caldera Unit. Alteration zones in Lumut Balai could be classified into smectite+chlorite zone, silica+chlorite zone, and chlorite+epidote zone. Productive faults in Lumut Balai are Air Ringkih Fault with NE-SW trend, Air Udangan Fault trending NE-SW, Lumut Tua Caldera and Gemurah Besar which trends N-S. This study aims to confirm the productive geological structure in Lumut Balai and gives better understanding for future field development, such as well targeting for makeup wells and reservoir simulation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Hululais Prospect in Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu is one of the geothermal fields developed by Pertamina Geothermal Energy. The field is situated within the Bukit Barisan Mountain Range, an NW-SE volcanic arc of Sumatra, and located 8 km western from Musi Segment of Sumatra Fault Zone Zone. Based on field data from geological mapping, remote sensing analyses and borehole data these regional structures influence the occurrence of the NW-SE volcanic axis in Hululais Volcanic Complex (HVC). The Hululais Volcanic Complex (HVC) itself is a Quaternary volcanic complex which comprised of six crown units namely: (Bukit Resam, Suban Agung, Bukit Beriti, Bukit Gedang, Bukit Lumut and Bukit Pabuar) with its associated Hummocks and primary/secondary deposits. These NW-SE distributed of Subang Agung, Bukit Beriti and Bukit Gedang volcanic crowns can be grouped as Hululais Brigade. The manifestations distribution in Hululais also depict the influence of the NW-SE geological structure and its volcanic activity. This is validated by the presence of geothermal manifestation such as fumarole in the central of Hululais Volcanic Complex and hot spring in the medial - distal part of the field. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Data collection and further geoscience studies have been carried out in the Mataloko area at the end of 2019. In general, the results of the study showed significant differences compared to previous studies. Therefore, it is necessary to update the Mataloko geothermal field's numerical model following the latest studies' data and analysis. In this research, numerical modeling will be performed using a TOUGH2 V.2 simulator and graphical interface software. The model will be built and validated at the natural state phase. It is expected that the model can complement existing geoscience studies and can be used by developers in planning field development. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
