Investigation of Austempering Effect on Fatigue Crack Growth of AISI 4140 Steel

The compact tension (CT) and tensile specimens of the AISI 4140 steel in cold rolling condition (untreated steel) were austempered by immersing it into the salt bath at 362℃ for 60 minutes. The tensile strength properties and the fatigue crack growth (FCG) resistance were performed to investigate the effect of the austempering process in AISI 4140 steel. A significant increase in the yield strength for austempered steel is about 8.7 % and the elastic strain energy increases by 55.7 %. Austempered steel's fatigue crack cycle is longer than that of untreated steel. Data of stress intensity factor range (ΔK, MPa.m1/2) and FCG rate (da/dN, m/cycle) was constructed in double log plot x-y axes for determining the materials constants m and C according to Paris’s law equation using a linear regression method. From the curve of ΔK versus da/dN, the constant m value for austempered steel (m = 3.45) shows better resistance than untreated steel (m = 3.77). On the other hand, the constant C value of 1.409×10-12 for austempered steel is one order magnitude higher than that of untreated steel (C = 4.151×10-13). The resistance of austempered steel against fatigue crack growth can be attributed to the formation of a bainite structure. © 2024 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

This paper presents the smart parking system using NodeMCU ESP8266 for web-based car reservation in public areas. Conventional parking system made car users take a long time to find the parking in public areas like shopping centers or malls. Therefore, its necessary to overcome this problem by implementing the smart parking system of car reservation. The system prototype integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, NodeMCU ESP8266 (microcontroller), Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04 (vehicle detector sensor in parking area), IR obstacle sensor (entry and exit), SG90 Servo (at the entry and exit gate) and Firebase to create a real-time database connected to a web platform. The system provides real-time slot availability information via the web platform and LCD as information at the entrance gate. Users can easily make and cancel reservations with additional features such as OTP verification, and automatic booking cancellation have been successfully implemented. The prototype test method consist of calibration test, sending OTP test, automatic booking cancellation test and manual booking cancellation test. The result of calibration test on 10 cm range have a 80% success rate for ultrasonic sensor 1 as well as the result of ultrasonic sensor 2. While, additional features test result such as sending OTP, automatic booking cancellation, and manual booking cancellation having 100% success rate. It can be concluded that this prototype is successfully implemented and reach the goals with minimum error can be tolerated. The authors suggest to adding a keypad and payment system to this prototype for improvement in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

Nanotechnology has been growing rapidly for the past decade. Nano Silica have also received much attention because of its great capability of thermal that can be used in various fields like chromatography, cosmetics, medicine, drugs, agriculture and optics. This paper then conducts literature review on the synthesis of nano silica materials from waste materials abundantly available such as fly ash and rice husk, especially using two popular synthesis methods namely sol-gel method and the alkali fusion method. In conclusion, despite utilizing waste materials, the results showed that those methods can produce nano silica with high-purity level. Additionally, compared to alkali fusion, the sol-gel method is considered better technique due to its simpler process, low-temperature need, and controllable morphology of nano silica. Therefore, sol gel method has been extensively applied to produce nano silica particle. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

The importance of the K-Medoid model in viewing disaster-prone areas in each sub-district in North Aceh. The advantage of the k-medoid model results is that it has better cluster centers than other models. The novelty of this research is the cluster results are assessed by each decision maker using the Borda group model in providing flood disaster assistance or areas that are a priority for handling, which are included in the flood-prone cluster. Therefore, this research is important because it can be used to identify areas most severely affected by flooding. This research aims to analyze and identify the impact of flood hazards based on grouping and decision-making using the Borda group model in each sub-district in North Aceh. The results of the k-medoids model show 3 clusters that can see potential areas for flood disasters, namely very vulnerable. There are six sub-districts. For the k-medoids results, ten sub-districts are vulnerable. Lastly, the safe zones are 11 sub-districts. This research's k-medoid model analysis is more precise in seeing clusters of places that are potentially affected by flooding based on spatial maps of their nearest neighboring areas. The percentage of each cluster is as follows: Cluster 1 is 4%, Cluster 2 is 55%, and Cluster 3 is 41%. The k-medoid model provided this result after three iterations, with a closeness difference of 1.594510537. The results of the Borda model group research can be used as a recommendation for the areas that receive the highest priority in disaster management. © 2023 IEEE.

The Li-ion battery is electrical storage in the form of chemical energy and is considered the strongest candidate for electrical-based automotive applications. The performance of the battery greatly affects the performance of electric vehicles. There is a need for effective thermal management to control battery temperature below a defined temperature such as 50°C. The thermal management system in the battery can be done by passively cooling it using heat pipes and heat sinks. This research was conducted by simulating the Makara Electric Vehicle's electric scooter battery module which was applied with a heat pipe-based cooling system. The simulated module focuses on heat pipes and 18650 lithium-ion batteries with discharge rate variations of 1C, 2C., and 3C. The method used is literature study and CFD simulation. The results show that the heat pipe cooling system can reduce battery temperature at each discharge rate variation of 12,85%, 16,23%, and 23,74%. Heat Pipe can absorb the highest heat of 68,1178 kW when the module uses a 3C battery. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Cataracts are the main factor causing blindness in Indonesia. Traditional diagnostic methods involving clinical examination by an ophthalmologist using a slit-lamp and visual tests have many challenges such as limited resources, time, and medical expertise may not be available in all locations, especially in less developed areas. Utilizing medical image technology is a wise choice because it allows early detection and monitoring of the development of this cataract disease Technology is needed to identify medical images that have valuable information so that early detection or monitoring of cataract development can be carried out. CNN as a part of deep learning has the ability to perform automatic feature extraction so that it can identify eye images. A CNN model for recognizing cataracts in eye images taken directly from Bhayangkara Hospital in Denpasar Bali has been developed in this research. The model developed is equipped with a dropout layer technique to prevent overfitting. The test results show that the CNN developed in this research produces very good performance with an average accuracy level of 92% on public dataset images, and 94% on primary dataset images. Tested using the primary dataset and public dataset, this CNN model shows very good performance because it can correctly identify an average of 94% of eye images in the primary dataset, and 92% of eye images in the public dataset.. © 2024 IEEE.

Central government role in road infrastructure development and economic growth in the form of future study: the case of Indonesia

Road infrastructure development in a country has been considered an important predictor of economic development and prosperity. Hence applying a systematic analysis approach, this study aims to project the future role of the central government in developing road infrastructure and its significance in the country's economic growth. The main data sources were the literature review and expert opinions in the form of self-administrative surveys and interviews. Besides, the Cross-impact Direct Influence (CDI) matrix was applied to formulate the questionnaire. For the data analysis purpose, MICMAC analysis and Scenario Wizard software were used. The MICMAC analysis results revealed the dominant role of 9 important/key variables in developing the Indonesian road infrastructure. Simultaneously 24 positive states of the important variables what identified via the Scenario-Wizard Method. Findings also depicted stronger consistency among the four scenarios. Whereas Scenario 1 showed the most ideal 9 key features related to Indonesia’s road infrastructure developments with a high intensity of concentrating the efforts on planning road infrastructure development in big cities and use of smart and modern technology. Moreover, presenting a group of constructs for developing road infrastructure and resultant economic growth in the country, the current study adds value to the existing literature. © 2023, The Author(s).

Efficient data collection in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is crucial. While traditional approaches rely on stationary data sinks, the use of mobile sinks, like unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has shown promise in enhancing data-gathering capabilities. However, existing methods often overlook the importance of trust, leaving the network susceptible to malicious or faulty nodes. To address this issue, we propose a novel trust-aware data-gathering algorithm, Variable Length Multi-Objective Whale Optimization Data Gathering (VLMOWO-DG). Our algorithm simultaneously optimizes energy consumption, delay, and trust while employing mobile sinks to collect data from sensor nodes. By considering trust as a key performance metric, we improve data reliability and security. The VLMOWO-DG algorithm introduces flexibility through variable-length solution representation and application-oriented operators, allowing for efficient exploration of the solution space. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm significantly outperforms established benchmarks, NSGA-II and NSGA-III, in terms of domination and hypervolume. This leads to a remarkable improvement of 200% in data gathering performance. © 2015 The Authors.

The study aims to analyze the effectiveness of wastewater treatment by using Carica papaya seeds as bio coagulants to diminish total suspended solids (TSS) and excess phosphate. This method has some advantages because it does not use chemical materials, is simple to apply, and is safe for the environment and human health. The wastewater samples were taken from an active laundry site in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province of Indonesia. The study found that the best dosage of coagulant was 3 g for the wastewater samples. The pH and BOD parameters showed slight changes after treatment, with pH 7.63–7.19 and 33–27 mg/L values, respectively. The TSS removal efficiency ranged from 9.3 to 15.6%, while the COD and phosphate removals were obtained from 11.7 to 39.3% and 56.3 to 68.4%, respectively. The treated TSS, COD, and phosphate concentrations have met the Indonesian domestic wastewater quality standard and environmental protection organization (EPO) guidelines. The Energy Efficiency in Industrial, Commercial, and Public Sector (EINCOPS) program is the result of a collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Danida (Danish International Development Assistance), which began in 2008 to support Indonesian government policies in achieving development goals in the field of sustainable environmental management. Energy users have gradually adopted energy efficiency measures in the industrial, commercial, and public sectors, starting with a large class. This research aims to obtain the optimal temperature range for using a chiller machine so that it continues to run efficiently. The method used is to calculate the coefficient of performance and energy efficiency ratio of each chiller when it is used. The number of chillers can be affected by the temperature range of the air handling unit (AHU), which uses wind from the environment as the main source for processing, and the temperature range is linear with weather conditions. This research found that in the environmental temperature range of 26°-29° Celsius taken by AHU for distribution to production areas, chiller performance is still not optimal. In the previous operation, three chillers were used out of the four available units, so after knowing the results of the chiller load analysis in this temperature range were still below standard or not optimal, the number of chillers could be reduced from three units full time to only two units when the temperature environment was in the range of 26°-29° Celsius. The results of calculating the average Coefficient of Performance and Efficiency Energy Ratio using two chillers when the temperature range of 26°-29° Celsius is still included in the standard, namely by increasing 0.15, the pre-improvement value is 5,833, and the chiller efficiency load increases to 14 percent. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
