The depletion of petroleum reserves, the price of fuel oil (BBM) which tends to increase, and environmental safety reasons encourage the search for other materials to be made as raw materials for making bioethanol. One of the most potent ingredients as raw material for making bioethanol is lignocellulosic biomass. Lignocellulosic biomass consists of three main components, namely: lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose. Cellulose and hemicellulose are sugar polymers which can be broken down / hydrolyzed to produce sugar and then fermented into bioethanol. One of the lignocellulosic biomass that can be used as a substrate for bioethanol production is peat. This study will review the effect of the delignification process and hydrolysis of the yield percent of ethanol produced in bioethanol production from peat soil.

Mobile devices are becoming an indispensable part of daily lives. This system has been developed interactive android application to assist and provide the support helps people such as blind and other physically limited people who face. They will be done for outgoing calling to his family and also the area around them. Speech recognition is technology that uses desired equipment and a service which can be controlled through voice of the android smart phone. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is an information processing paradigm that is inspired by the way biological nervous systems, such as the brain, process information. The device proposed here is an interactive android platform, which is capable of recognizing spoken words. We propose to developed interactive android application and also added some features which are currently available in android based smartphones such as attending for a line calling feature and out-going calling feature, over the voice commands which can run on the tablet or any android based phone. Speech recognition have a data set to translate between users' descriptions and the labels in the database, which has entries on the speech recognition (sounds and patterns) that make up the sound. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Recognizing its high volatile matter content, liquefaction to convert subbituminous coal with relatively low calorific value into liquid fuel by thermal or biological process has been subjected to extensive research. The former has been implemented commercially whereas the latter challenges for further studies. This paper looks into low-rank coal upgrading through subbituminous biosolubilization using Neurospora intermedia as the bioconverting agent. N. intermedia was initially cultured on agar medium containing a carbon source (glucose, sucrose, or cellulose) in a petri dish. After four days cultivation, sterilized coal particles with diameter of 1.5-2.5 mm were spread on N. intermedia culture. It was observed that N. intermedia could grow on the solid culture containing glucose, sucrose, and cellulose. However, the biosolubilization product was only observed from the solid culture with glucose and sucrose as carbon source. The highest biosolubilization rate was 1.07 × 10−3 abs/min and about 83% of coal could be solubilized when the media contained 15 g/L of glucose. The FTIR analysis showed that the spectrum of biosolubilization product was similar to the initial coal spectrum, but it contained small amount of aliphatic C-H group compounds and high amount of carbonyl, hydroxyl, and amine groups.

Nowadays, starch modification is carried out in order to change the native properties into the better ones, such as high stability, brightness, and better texture. The objectives of this study are to investigate the effect of pH on carboxyl content, swelling power, and water solubility of starch. This research was divided into two main stages, i.e. starch modification by ozone oxidation and analysis. The physicochemical properties of modified cassava starch were investigated under various reaction pH of 7-10 and the reaction time between 0-240 minutes. Reaction condition at pH 10 provided the higher value of carboxyl content and water solubility, but the lower of swelling power. This increase in solubility indicates that the modified oxidation starch readily dissolves in water, due to its small size granules and high amylose content. The significant changes of both parameters were achieved in the first 120 minutes of ozone reaction times. The graphic pattern of water solubility was in contrast with swelling power. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

Learning in vocational schools is not enough just teacher-centered because the material presented does not only cover cognitive aspects, but also the affective and psychomotor aspects. In fact, there are still many teachers who use conventional modes, including learning technical drawings, so that student learning outcomes are low. The purpose of this research was to determine the learning outcomes of the PjBL model using real object media better than conventional methods in technical drawing subjects. A quasi-experiment was used in research with a nonequivalent control group design. The study population was 42 students of class X TP. The sampling technique uses cluster sampling. Class X TP1 as a control class with 23 students and Class X TP2 as an experimental class with 19 students. Data collection techniques using test techniques. The research instrument was a test sheet. The data analysis used t-test analysis with prerequisite tests, namely the normality test and homogeneity test. Based on testing the hypothesis test, it was concluded that the PjBL model with real objects gives better learning outcomes compared to conventional methods of learning outcomes of technical drawings.

Some argue that complementing climate change mitigation measures with solar radiation management (SRM) might prove a last resort to limit global warming to 1.5 °C. To make a socially responsible decision on whether to use SRM, it is important to consider also public opinion, across the globe and particularly in the Global South, which would face the greatest risks from both global warming and SRM. However, most research on public opinion about SRM stems from the Global North. We report findings from the first large-scale, cross-cultural study on the public opinion about SRM among the general public (N = 2,248) and students (N = 4,583) in 20 countries covering all inhabited continents, including five countries from the Global South and five ‘non-WEIRD’ (i.e. not Western, Educated, Industrialised, Rich, and Democratic) countries from the Global North. As public awareness of SRM is usually low, we provided participants with information on SRM, including key arguments in favour of and against SRM that appear in the scientific debate. On average, acceptability of SRM was significantly higher in the Global South than in the ‘non-WEIRD’ Global North, while acceptability in the ‘WEIRD’ Global North was in between. However, we found substantial variation within these clusters, especially in the ‘non-WEIRD’ Global North, suggesting that countries do not form homogenous clusters and should thus be considered individually. Moreover, the average participants’ views, while generally neither strong nor polarised, differed from some expert views in important ways, including that participants perceived SRM as only slightly effective in limiting global warming. Still, our data suggests overall a conditional, reluctant acceptance. That is, while on average, people think SRM would have mostly negative consequences, they may still be willing to tolerate it as a potential last resort to fight global warming, particularly if they think SRM has only minor negative (or even positive) impact

With the emergence of the Web of Things (WoT) as Internet of Things (IoT) enhancement in web application, the Industrial Revolution 4.0 has developed very rapidly. Its technology has been commonly used in various fields of life, especially in agriculture. One of the crop plants is often achieved by vegetable farming, as vegetables are the staples of daily life. Aim this study is for plating mustard green seeds and watering plant using WoT. This method begins by doing literature review, requirement analysis, design and implementation. The result shows the developing of prototype to planting mustard seeds and watering plant is successful that it can be remotely operated through WoT. The planting and watering process uses Gcode command to carry out seed picks, planting seeds, and water plants.

Magnetotelluric Data Analysis Using Phase Tensor and Tipper Strike to Determine Geoelectrical Strike in 'DKH' Geothermal Field

The magnetotelluric (MT) method is passive geophysical method that measures natural electromagnetic field to estimate the subsurface resistivity structure. Before conducting 2D MT data inversion, data analysis, dimensionality, including determining the direction of the geoelectrical strike must be performed. It is needed to fulfill the assumption of 2D MT modeling. 2D modeling of magnetotelluric data is an important part because the results can determine the quality of the subsurface interpretation. Therefore, this paper describes the determination of the dimensonality and geoelectrical strike using the phase tensor and tipper strike parameters. The invariant parameters of phase tensor including skew angle (β) and ellipticity are used to get the information about the dimensionality and geoelectrical strike. The results from the phase tensor are plotted in a rose diagram to determine the main direction of the geoelectrical strike. The phase tensor analysis contains ambiguity 90°, therefore tipper strike used to validate the analysis. From the analysis, the result shows the 1D or 2D structures of the MT data in high frequency, meanwhile the lower frequency, the majority of the data show 3D structures. The dominant geoelectrical strike is around N15°E and it is confirmed with the regional structure of the area. Determination of dimensionality and geoelectrical strike are applied to MT data from the geothermal field.

Some disabilities caused by sensory malfunction, accident, or congenital disorder could cause people difficulty in grasping the computer mouse. A well-known substitute uses an inertial sensor to monitor the body's orientation. This paper evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of different methods of holding the sensor. There are two modes of holding the sensor, the grasping mode and the attached mode;we also evaluate a mouse as a baseline. The attached mode works by placing the sensor on the back of user's hand. The quantitative and qualitative evaluation procedure is based on ISO/TS 9241 part 411: Ergonomics of human-system interaction standard. The test consists of four levels of difficulty and indicates that the throughput and task completion times were not statistically different between grasping and attached mode. We also found that grasping mode and attached mode did not show significantly statistical differences in comfort and fatigue based on the questionnaires. The results also suggest that the orientation of the hand used in grasping and attached modes is suitable only for lower-impact computer use. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
