Make-up wells drilling cost in financial model for a geothermal project

After commissioning of a power plant, geothermal reservoir will encounter pressure decline, which will affect wells productivity. Therefore, further drilling is carried out to enhance steam production. Make-up wells are production wells drilled inside an already confirmed reservoir to maintain steam production in a certain level. Based on Sanyal (2004), geothermal power cost consists of three components, those are capital cost, O&M cost and make-up drilling cost. The make-up drilling cost component is a major part of power cost which will give big influence in a whole economical value of the project. The objective of this paper it to analyse the make-up wells drilling cost component in financial model of a geothermal power project. The research will calculate make-up wells requirements, drilling costs as a function of time and how they influence the financial model and affect the power cost. The best scenario in determining make-up wells strategy in relation with the project financial model would be the result of this research.

Probabilistic approach: back pressure turbine for geothermal vapor-dominated system

Geothermal bussiness nowadays needs to be accelerated in a way that profit can be obtained as soon as reasonable possible. One of the many ways to do this is by using one of geothermal wellhead generating unit (GWGU), called backpressure turbine. Backpressure turbine can be used in producing electricity as soon as there is productive or rather small-scale productive well existed after finished drilling. In a vapor dominated system, steam fraction in the wellhead capable to produce electricity based on each well productivity immediately. The advantage for using vapor dominated system is reduce brine disposal in the wellhead so it will be a cost benefit in operation. The design and calculation for backpressure turbine will use probablistic approach with Monte Carlo simulation. The parameter that will be evaluated in sensitivity would be steam flow rate, turbine inlet pressure, and turbine exhaust pressure/atmospheric pressure. The result are probability for P10, P50, and P90 of gross power output which are 1.78 MWe, 2.22 MWe and 2.66 Mwe respectively. Whereas the P10, P50, and P90 of SSC are 4.67 kg/s/MWe, 5.19 kg/s/MWe and 5.78 kg/s/MWe respectively.

Hydrocarbon Microtremor Analysis is a low-frequency passive seismic method which derives a quick look estimates new hydrocarbon reservoir prospect area. This method based on the empirical study which investigated an increasing of spectra anomaly between 2 – 4 Hz above the reservoir. We determined five attributes on low-frequency band of microtremors including Power Spectral Density integral of vertical component (PSD-IZ), Power Spectral Density (PSD) on 3 Hz frequency, frequency shifting, the spectral ratio of vertical and horizontal components (V/H) maximum and integral of spectral ratio of vertical and horizontal components (V/H). We deployed 105 points of measurement spreading in our suspect area. We used time series data that recorded from particle velocity of three components with 80 minutes duration and 100 Hz of the sampling frequency. The noise identification analysis in each station data set has been made from the measurement location, considering the suspect area had different local cultural noise. We proceed attributes for each data acquired from all station then used the interpolated map using a standard kriging algorithm spatially. As a result, each attribute analysis and spatial attribute map are combined to identify and estimate a good prospect of the hydrocarbon reservoir.

The main issue in the management of the two-phase liquid-dominated geothermal field is rapid decline pressure in the reservoir so that the supply of steam to the power plant cannot be fulfilled. To understanding that, modelling and numerical simulation used reservoir simulators. The model is developed on liquid-dominated geothermal fields are assessed in various scenarios of production strategies (focusing only steam cap, brine reservoir and a combination) and injection strategies (deep and shallow injection, centered and dispersed injection), with the calculation using separated steam cycle method. The simulation results of the model for sustainable production are production 25% from steam cap + 75% from brine reservoir, dispersed and deep reinjection with make-up wells from steam cap results 9 make-up well number. The implementation of production-injection strategy needs to be planned right from the beginning of exploitation so that the strategy can adapt to changes in reservoir characteristics.

Silica-calcium phosphate composite (SCPC) and carbonate apatite (CO3Ap) have several superior properties as they are bioactive, bioresorbable and elicit excellent tissue response. The CO3Ap surface layer and hydrated silica developed on the surface of the SCPC may be a key factor for achieving dentin regeneration. On the other hand, calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] have antibacterial properties and biocompatible to dental tissue. Therefore, the combination of CO3Ap, SCPC, and Ca(OH)2 in a bone cement may be favorable as a pulp capping agent that enhances pulp tissue formation and dentin regeneration. The aim of the present study is to synthesize and characterize a novel SCPC-CO3Ap cement for pulp capping application in dentistry. The cement is composed of dicalcium phosphate anhydrous (DCPA), vaterite, Ca(OH)2 and SCPC. The set cement was further characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The microstructure of set cement was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the mechanical strength was evaluated by diametral tensile strength (DTS). The FT-IR analyses revealed that the additional bands of carbonate were detected in each sample. The SEM samples of set cement showing more compact surface microstructure of group II compared to other groups. Furthermore, the combination of 5% SCPC and 5% Ca(OH)2 in the cement facilitated a compact structure with superior mechanical strength. The novel SCPC-CO3Ap cement has great potential to be used for pulp capping to facilitate dentin regeneration. © 2017 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

High-momentum two-particle correlations are a useful tool for studying jet-quenching effects in the quark-gluon plasma. Angular correlations between neutral-pion triggers and charged hadrons with transverse momenta in the range 4–12 GeV/c and 0.5–7 GeV/c, respectively, have been measured by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 for Au+Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV. Suppression is observed in the yield of high-momentum jet fragments opposite the trigger particle, which indicates jet suppression stemming from in-medium partonic energy loss, while enhancement is observed for low-momentum particles. The ratio and differences between the yield in Au+Au collisions and p+p collisions, IAA and ΔAA, as a function of the trigger-hadron azimuthal separation, Δϕ, are measured for the first time at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These results better quantify how the yield of low-pT associated hadrons is enhanced at wide angle, which is crucial for studying energy loss as well as medium-response effects.

Groundwater and solute transport modeling at Hyporheic zone of upper part Citarum River

Groundwater and surface water interaction is an interesting topic to be studied related to the water resources and environmental studies. The study of interaction between groundwater and river water at the Upper Part Citarum River aims to know the contribution of groundwater to the river or reversely and also solute transport of dissolved ions between them. Analysis of drill logs, vertical electrical sounding at the selected sections, measurement of dissolved ions, and groundwater modeling were applied to determine the flow and solute transport phenomena at the hyporheic zone. It showed the hyporheic zone dominated by silt and clay with hydraulic conductivity range from 10-4~10-8 m/s. The groundwater flowing into the river with very low gradient and it shows that the Citarum River is a gaining stream. The groundwater modeling shows direct seepage of groundwater into the Citarum River is only 186 l/s, very small compared to the total discharge of the river. Total dissolved ions of the groundwater ranged from 200 to 480 ppm while the river water range from 200 to 2,000 ppm. Based on solute transport modeling it indicates dissolved ions dispersion of the Citarum River into groundwater may occur in some areas such as Bojongsoang-Dayeuh Kolot and Nanjung. This situation would increase the dissolved ions in groundwater in the region due to the contribution of the Citarum River. The results of the research can be a reference for further studies related to the mechanism of transport of the pollutants in the groundwater around the Citarum River.

In the present work, in-situ metal matrix composites were fabricated through squeeze casting by dispersing copper particles with different weight content (3, 6, 10, and 15%) into Al-12% Si piston alloy. Heat treatments at 380°C and 450°C for holding times of 6, and 18 hours were also performed. The microstructures, XRD, hardness and wear characteristics were evaluated. The results showed that the copper particles were reacted with the aluminum at all the processing conditions resulting in formation of fine copper aluminides intermetallics. Most of the intermetallics were CuAl2, while AlCu was appeared in small ratio. The intermetallics were homogenously distributed within the matrix up to 6 % Cu addition. The amounts of the resulted intermetallics were increased after performing heat treatment. At 380°C, most of the resulted intermetallics were CuAl2, while the Cu-rich intermetallics appeared at 450°C. Increasing the holding time to 18 hours resulted in grain coarsening and formation of some cracks. The hardness of the resulted composite materials was improved. The hardness value reaches to about 170 HV after heat treating at 380°C for 8 hours. The wear resistance of the resulted composite materials was remarkably improved especially at lower Cu addition and lower heat treatment temperature. © 2016, Advanced engineering Solutions [***] Ottawa, Canada. Numerical modeling approach taking into account the influence of delamination for performance capacity of reinforced concrete beam strengthened in bending by CFRP

Reinforced concrete members strengthened in bending by externally bonding of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) may present several failure modes: failure of material or failure of the interface between concrete-CFRP. Nevertheless, experience gained from testing confirms that in most cases delamination prevails over the other possible rupture modes. Delamination in CFRP strengthened sections is difficult to model because it involves multiple parameters such as FRP stiffness, adhesive material properties, presence of cracks in concrete, among others. A simplified numerical model to predict flexural capacity of reinforced concrete beam strengthened by CFRP at failure is presented in this paper. The experimental validation is presented as well. Based on the result of the proposed model, an equation for the prediction of ultimate flexural capacity to prevent CFRP debonding is proposed.

In the present work, a feasibility study has been carried out of using the friction stir processing (FSP) as a tool to fabricate a surface magnetic composites layer on the aluminum plate. The iron and magnetite magnetic powders were packed in a groove of 3 mm width and 1.5 mm depth cut on the aluminum surface. The tool rotated at a rate of 1000- 2000 rpm, and moved along the groove at a travelling speed of 1.66 mm/s. Double and triple passes were applied. Surface magnetic composites layers were fabricated on an aluminum plate through friction stir processing. Iron and magnetite powders acted as reinforcement. The iron particles were homogenously distributed at only a rotation speed of 1000 rpm after triple passes. Limited interfacial reactions occurred between the iron and aluminum matrix. On the other hand, the lower rotation speed (1000 rpm) was not enough to form sound nugget when magnetite particles were used. Fe3O4particles were dispersed homogenously in a sound nugget zone when the speed was increased to 1500 rpm. No reaction products could be detected between the Fe3O4particles and the aluminum matrix. The saturation magnetization (Ms) of the Fe-dispersed nugget was higher than that of the Fe3O4-dispersed nugget. © 2016, Advanced engineering Solutions [***] Ottawa, Canada. All rights are reserved.
