Basaltic lava characterization using magnetic susceptibility identification and presence of opaque minerals in Ijen volcanic complex, Banyuwangi, East Java

Reliable volcanic map and deep understanding of magmatic processes are very important in exploration of natural resources and mitigation of volcanic hazards. The conservative method in volcanic mapping still depends on qualitative approach thus it often failed to characterize volcanic products properly. Rock magnetic methods are quantitative approaches that classify rocks based on their magnetic properties. In this study, magmatic processes in basaltic lavas from Ijen volcanic complex in Banyuwangi, East Java were studied using combined rock magnetic and petrogenesis approaches. Samples of basaltic lavas from 13 localities, taken from three eruption sources were measuredfor their mass-specific magnetic susceptibility. The samples were then also subjected to petrographic and X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF) analyses for their minerals composition and petrogenesis. Preliminary results show that the distinction in magnetic characters might be due to the quantity of magnetic minerals contained in rocks.

Flat bands (FB) are strictly dispersionless bands in the Bloch spectrum of a periodic lattice Hamiltonian, recently observed in a variety of photonic and dissipative condensate networks. FB Hamiltonians are fine-tuned networks, still lacking a comprehensive generating principle. We introduce a FB generator based on local network properties. We classify FB networks through the properties of compact localized states (CLS) which are exact FB eigenstates and occupy U unit cells. We obtain the complete two-parameter FB family of two-band d=1 networks with nearest unit cell interaction and U=2. We discover a novel high symmetry sawtooth chain with identical hoppings in a transverse dc field, easily accessible in experiments. Our results pave the way towards a complete description of FBs in networks with more bands and in higher dimensions.

The Preliminary Results of GMSTech: A Software Development for Microseismic Characterization

The processing of microseismic data requires reliable software for imaging the condition of subsurface related to occurring microseismicity. In general, the currently available software is only specific for certain processing module and developed by the different developer. However, the software with integrated processing modules will give a better value because the users can use it easier and faster. We developed GMSTech (Ganesha Microseismic Technology), a C# language-based standing-alone software consisting several modules for processing of microseismic data. Its function is to solve a non-linear inverse problem and imaging the subsurface. C# library is supported by ILNumerics to reduce time consumption and give good visualization. In this preliminary result, we will present four developed modules: (1) hypocenter determination, (2) moment magnitude calculation, and (3) 3D seismic tomography. In the first module, we provide four methods for locating the microseismic events that can be chosen by a user independently: simulated annealing method, guided grid-search method, Geiger's method, and joint hypocenter determination (JHD). The second module can be used for calculating moment magnitude using Brune method and to estimate the released energy of the event. At last, we also provided the module of 3-D seismic tomography for imaging the velocity structures based on delay time tomography. We demonstrated the software using both a synthetic data and a real data from a certain geothermal field in Indonesia. The results for all modules are reliable and remarkable, reviewed statistically by RMS error. We will keep examining the software using another set of data and developing further modules of processing.

Amino acid composition and protein quality of instant liquid food based on Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) and Kelor (Moringa oleifera) flour

Under-five children are a vulnerable group whose susceptible to repeated infections and deficiency of protein and calcium. The objective of this research is to analyze the amino acid composition and protein quality of instant liquid food based on catfish (Clarias gariepinus) and kelor (Moringa oleifera) flour according to the requirement of children 1-3 years old. The amino acid composition was analyzed by using Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC). The highest essential amino acid content in the instant liquid food based on catfish and kelor flour is the 114.29±0.79 mg/g protein lysine and the highest non-essential amino acid is the glutamic acid of 244.14±1.86 mg/g protein. The protein quality was determined by the chemical score (78.30 for sulphuric amino acid), the amino acid score (100), the essential amino acid index (EAAI = 0.98), the predicted protein efficiency ratio (P-PER = 4.63±0.02), and the predicted biological value (P-BV = 48.51±0.13).The study showed that instant liquid food based catfish and kelor flour containing high-quality protein and calcium that is recommended for children aged 1-3 years.

Influences of Precursor Solution Concentration and Temperature on CH3NH3PbI3 Perovskite Layer Morphology and the Unconverted PbI2 Proportion to their Perovskite Solar Cell Characteristics

The formation of organometal-halide perovskite crystal is simply based on stoichiometry reaction. However, the formation process seems to be sensitively affected by some process parameters such as concentration and temperature of precursor solution. In this work, we studied the formation of CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI3) crystal in mesoporous TiO2 layer deposited by spin coating technique. Perovskite layers were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and its surface morphology were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Perovskite layers obtained from precursor solution at 40°C and 60°C show a mesh-like structure. Meanwhile, for higher precursor solution temperature (80°C), it shows a flake-like structure. However, precursor solution at 60°C produced the best conversion of precursor solution with the smallest percentage of the remaining unconverted PbI2 inside the produced crystal layer. These experimental results also showed that the best crystallization degree is obtained from 1.0 M precursor solution. The photovoltaic characteristics of their solar cells seem to have a correlation with the quantity of unconverted PbI2. High PbI2 content significantly decreased the Filling Factor of the solar cell.

In the future it could be a new tourism destination as part of the development of Surakarta as Creative Industrial-based City. This study aimed to identify the specific characteristics of the region as a basis for the development of community-based industrial tourism kampung.

This paper describes the design of an AVR microcontroller training kit with a low cost and the additional feature of an integrated downloader. The main components of this device include: Microcontroller, terminal, I/O keypad, push button, LED, seven segment display, LCD, motor stepper, and sensors. The device configuration results in low cost and ease of use; this device is suitable for laboratories with limited funding. The device can also be used as a training kit for the teaching and learning of microcontrollers.

Hypocenter Determination Using a Non-Linear Method for Events in West Java, Indonesia: A Preliminary Result

West Java, part of the Sunda Arc, has relatively high seismicity due to subduction activity and faulting. The first step of tomography study in order to infer the geometry of the structure beneath West Java is to conduct precise earthquake hypocenter determination. In this study, we used earthquake waveform data taken from the regional Meteorological, Climatological, Geophysical Agency (BMKG) network from South Sumatra to central Java. We have repicked P and S arrival times from about 800 events in the period from April 2009 to December 2015. We selected the events which have azimuthal gap < 210° and phase more than 8. The non-linear method employed in this study used the oct-tree sampling algorithm from NonLinLoc program to determine the earthquake hypocenters. The hypocenter location results give better clustering earthquakes which are correlated well with geological structure in the study region. We also compared our results with BMKG catalog data and found that the average hypocenter location difference is about 12 km in latitude direction, 9.5 km in longitude direction, and the average focal depth difference is about 19.5 km. For future studies, we will conduct tomographic imaging to invert 3-D seismic velocity structure beneath the western part of Java.

Identifying Successive Eruption of Guntur Volcanic Complex Using Magnetic Susceptibility and Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) Data

Identifying distribution and stratigraphic of volcanic products are important not only for mitigating volcanic hazards, but also to know the characteristics of the successive eruptions. Guntur volcanic complex located in Garut, West Java, Indonesia was selected as study area because of the last eruption took place in 1847 and the volcanic activity has been dormant since then, however its seismicity is still active. During the period of July to October 2009, the hypocentre distribution of volcano tectonic earthquakes is mostly located at western flank of the volcano, beneath Guntur - Gandapura craters at the depth of less than 5 km. This study is aimed to identify distribution and succession of volcanic products based on their magnetic properties and backscattering signal of Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) data. The polarimetric decomposition method was used to identify the distribution of the volcanic products based on their scattering characteristics. Then, the field measurement using SM-30 magnetic susceptibility meter was performed to confirm the units of volcanic products and interpret their successions. According to the polarimetric decomposition method, we could identify fifteen successive eruptions formed Guntur Volcano Complex and termed as Khuluk and Gumuk in Indonesian standard. The successions were produced Gumuk Windu, Gumuk Malang, Gumuk Pulus, Gumuk Putrri, Khuluk Meungpeuk, Gumuk Cakra, Gumuk Gandapura, Gumuk Putri, Gumuk Gajah, Gumuk Batususun, Khuluk Pasirlaku, Gumuk Agung, Gumuk Picung, Gumuk Pasirmalang, Gumuk Masigit, Khuluk Kabuyutan and Khuluk Guntur. The magnetic susceptibility confirmed that the variations of magnetic susceptibility of rocks at each gumuk agreed with their stratigraphy.
