Precise Hypocenter Determination around Palu Koro Fault: a Preliminary Results

Sulawesi area is located in complex tectonic pattern. High seismicity activity in the middle of Sulawesi is related to Palu Koro fault (PKF). In this study, we determined precise hypocenter around PKF by applying double-difference method. We attempt to investigate of the seismicity rate, geometry of the fault and distribution of focus depth around PKF. We first re-pick P-and S-wave arrival time of the PKF events to determine the initial hypocenter location using Hypoellipse method through updated 1-D seismic velocity. Later on, we relocated the earthquake event using double-difference method. Our preliminary results show the distribution of relocated events are located around PKF and have smaller residual time than the initial location. We will enhance the hypocenter location through updating of arrival time by applying waveform cross correlation method as input for double-difference relocation.

Open channel conduit is commonly constructed on side roadway, car park area, etc., with the aims to collect rainwater or seapage water. To avoid garbages following the waterflow, the conduit is equipped with adequate cover. In addition, the cover can also be functioned for temporary car park area. Thus, the conduit cover should strong enough to sustain external loading. This paper discusses the design and response of the conduit cover using finite element software ANSYS MECHANICAL version 17.5.

E3 – A user’s interface for quantifying total cost, diesel consumption, and emissions from bulldozers and its comparison to field data

The use of bulldozer in construction projects determines a vast number of diesel consumption, emissions and the portion of total cost of the project. Construction equipment operators need a method that can be utilized to predict and quantify not only the cost, but also the diesel consumption and emissions of construction projects, particularly for bulldozer’s activities. The main purpose of this paper is to propose an E3, the predicting tool for the economic, energy, and environmental impact of the use of bulldozer. The tool was developed by using the productivity rate model of bulldozer to the US EPA’s NONROAD model. The results show that the bulldozer’s productivity model can be used as the platform for predicting the total cost and diesel consumption that will be required and the total expected emissions for the project.

BACKGROUND:Online educational programs focused on ways to improve brain health could increase participant literacy, empowerment, and engagement in activities that support personal brain health, potentially reducing dementia risk. OBJECTIVES:Our goal was to develop an evidence-based online educational program with a focus on risk and protective factors for dementia. Here we present the rationale and features of the program and include results from a pilot study that assessed usability and acceptability. DESIGN:This project is part of the Can-Thumbs UP (CTU) initiative. An Intervention Mapping Approach framework and co-construction approach was used to develop the online program. A pre-post pilot open label design was used to test the usability and acceptance of this at-home educational program. SETTING:The program and assessment for the pilot study were delivered fully remotely. PARTICIPANTS:Twenty community-dwelling older adults (60-83 years of age, 65 % female) living in Canada who were at increased risk of dementia. program:The Brain Health PRO/Santé Cerveau PRO is a web-based 45-week program available in French and English. It provides general information and guidance on seven modifiable risk factors for dementia: physical activity, nutrition, cognitively stimulating activities, sleep, social and psychological health, vascular health, and vision/hearing. After completing a brief intake questionnaire, users are provided with an individualized risk profile to personalize priorities and goals. During the course of the program, users receive feedback on lifestyle changes. For this pilot study, participants completed a 15-week version of the program. MEASUREMENTS:This pilot study reports measures of usability (System Usability Scale), acceptance (Technology Acceptance Model-2) as well as risk profiles at intake based on self-reported questionnaires. Construction cost impacts related to manpower, material, and equipment factors in contractor firms perspective

Risk can be defined as consequences which possible happened inscrutably. Although an activity has planned as good as possible, but it keep contains uncertainty. Implementation of construction project was encountering various risk impacts from a number of risk factors. This study was intended to analyze the impacts of construction cost to for contractor firms as construction project executor related to the factors of manpower, material and equipment. The study was using data obtained from questionnaires distributed to 15 large qualification contractor firms. The period of study classified into conflict period (2000-2004), post tsunami disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction period (2005-2009), and post rehabilitation and reconstruction period (2010-present). The statistical analysis of severity index and variance used to analyze the data. The three risk factors reviewed generally affected the cost in a medium impact. The high impact occurred in minor variables, which are ‘increase in material prices’, ‘theft of materials’, and ‘the fuel scarcity’. In overall, the three risk factors and the observed period contributed significant impact on construction costs.

Preliminary study of near surface detections at geothermal field using optic and SAR imageries

Current remote sensing technologies shows that surface manifestation of geothermal system could be detected with optical and SAR remote sensing, but to assess target beneath near the surface layer with the surficial method needs a further study. This study conducts a preliminary result using Optic and SAR remote sensing imagery to detect near surface geothermal manifestation at and around Mt. Papandayan, West Java, Indonesia. The data used in this study were Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS for delineating geothermal manifestation prospect area and an Advanced Land Observing Satellite(ALOS) Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) level 1.1 for extracting lineaments and their density. An assumption was raised that the lineaments correlated with near surface structures due to long L-band wavelength about 23.6 cm. Near surface manifestation prospect area are delineated using visual comparison between Landsat 8 RGB True Colour Composite band 4,3,2 (TCC), False Colour Composite band 5,6,7 (FCC), and lineament density map of ALOS PALSAR. Visual properties of ground object were distinguished from interaction of the electromagnetic radiation and object whether it reflect, scatter, absorb, or and emit electromagnetic radiation based on characteristic of their molecular composition and their macroscopic scale and geometry. TCC and FCC composite bands produced 6 and 7 surface manifestation zones according to its visual classification, respectively. Classified images were then compared to a Normalized Different Vegetation Index (NDVI) to obtain the influence of vegetation at the ground surface to the image. Geothermal area were classified based on vegetation index from NDVI. TCC image is more sensitive to the vegetation than FCC image. The later composite produced a better result for identifying visually geothermal manifestation showed by detail-detected zones. Morphotectonic is geomorphological characteristic as response of tectonic. Watershed morphometric may reflect tectonic conditions of a region. Parameters of morphometric and morphotectonic can be an indicator of the activity of a fault. Active fault is a tectonic trace that can be a source of seismicity in the area of land. The southern part of West Java is dominated by Quaternary volcanic products. These materials are generally unstable, especially when affected by fault. Some areas in the southern part of West Java regionally controlled by Quaternary faulting. The movement of this fault can be triggered by the subduction activity in the south of Java Island. This study aims to determine the role morphotectonic characteristics as indicators of the presence of active faults in the region of the Southern part of Cianjur and Garut. The result is expected to be useful to help the community and the government in anticipation of a crisis when geological disasters occur as an impact of the active faults. Systematic research based on the mindset that past geological events, along with its development can produce a typical landforms. Lineament of the landslide zone is assumed to be associated with active fault lines that can be reflected by the specific characteristics of morphotectonic and lithology. Digital analysis of satellite imagery used to determine the distribution of lineament and landslide zones. Probabilistic approach is used in the data analysis. The study was conducted in five watersheds, i.e. Cisadea, Cipandak, Cilayu, Cikandang, and Cikaingan. The results showed that there was a tectonic control in watersheds of Cipandak, Cilayu, and Cikaingan. Meanwhile, tectonic control in the watersheds of Cisadea and Cikandang occurred in a specific location. This phenomenon is reflected by the unique shape of the three watersheds. The watersheds longitudinal direction tends to follow the direction of the main fault. Slim shapes for the three watersheds indicate tectonic

Development of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) for biological nitrogen removal in domestic wastewater treatment (Case study: Surabaya City, Indonesia)

Domestic wastewater effluent is the main contributor to diverse water pollution problems. The contaminants contained in the wastewater lead the low quality of water. The presence of ammonium and nitrate along with phosphorus are potentially cause eutrophication and endanger aquatic life. Excess nutrients, mostly N and P is the main cause of eutrophication which is result in oxygen depletion, biodiversity reduction, fish kills, odor and increased toxicity. Most of the domestic wastewater in Surabaya City still contains nitrogen that exceeded the threshold. The range of ammonium and orthophosphate concentration in the domestic wastewater is between 6.29 mg/L – 38.91 mg/L and 0.44 mg/L – 1.86 mg/L, respectively. An advance biological nitrogen removal process called anammox is a sustainable and cost effective alternative to the basic method of nitrogen removal, such as nitrification and denitrification. Many research have been conducted through anammox and resulted promisingly way to remove nitrogen. In this process, ammonium will be oxidized with nitrite as an electron acceptor to produce nitrogen gas and low nitrate in anoxic condition. Anammox requires less oxygen demand, no needs external carbon source, and low operational cost. Based on its advantages, anammox is possible to apply in domestic wastewater treatment in Surabaya with many further studies.

Provision of healthy toilet for low income community based on community empowerment in Kelurahan Kebonsari, Surabaya City, towards Indonesia open defecation free (ODF) in 2019

One of the causes of open defecation (OD) is low awareness of local community towards open defecation free behavior. This community does not have a healthy toilet and usually defecate in the river. This poor environment is coupled with poverty and small footprint. Therefore, the *** methods should be modified by including the finance concept in form of stimulant funds to accelerate ODF targets by using appropriate technology for land limitations. The construction of healthy toilet in Kelurahan Kebonsari, Jambangan sub-district, was conducted in RW2 which consisted of RT 6 (4 units) and RT 7 (1 unit) and 2 units in RT 2 of RW 3. Construction was initiated with focus group discussion and indepth interview to locate the proper location to be triggered. Healthy toilet construction was conducted in cooperation among self-help community, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), and the community itself. Every month the users had to pay the toilet construction (capacity of 0.75 m3) of IDR 100,000 for 10 months. Therefore, with this healthy toilet construction, KelurahanKebonsari becomes one of ODF village in Surabaya City.

Effects of variation of chitosan concentration on the characteristics of membrane cellulose bacteria-chitosan biocomposites as candidates for artificial dura mater

This study was conducted to determine the effect of variation in concentration of chitosan on the physical and biological characteristics of the membrane of bacterial cellulose-chitosan biocomposites through immersion precipitation method. Bacterial cellulose membrane was soaked in a solution of chitosan whose concentration variation are 0.1%; 0.3%; 0.5% and 0.7%. The characterization tests which were conducted included the analysis of functional groups (FTIR), tensile strength test, morphology test (SEM), and cytotoxicity assay using MTT Assay method. Based on the cluster analysis test, the results of FTIR spectra indicate changes in the physical bond which means that there is interaction between the bacterial cellulose membrane with chitosan on each sample. The bacteria produced cellulose membrane with tensile strength of 10.53 ± 0.19 MPa while the microbial cellulose membrane by adding 0.5% chitosan concentration had tensile strength value of 8:58 ± 0.19 MPa. It shows that with the addition of chitosan it would decrease the tensile strength in microbial cellulose membrane. This was shown by 496.2 nm - 2,032 µm pore size with a thickness (mm) of 0:35 ± 0.33 to 0.81 ± 0.26. Based on the test results of the analysis of functional groups, tensile strength test, and morphology test, membrane microbial cellulose-chitosan biocomposites have the potential to be used as artificial dura mater candidate.
