Growth mechanism of Co:TiO2 thin film deposited by metal organic chemical vapor deposition technique

In this research, we investigated the growth mechanism of cobalt-doped titanium dioxide (Co:TiO2) films. Thi Co:TiO2 thin films were grown on the n-type silicon substrate. The films were grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition method. The growth temperature was varied of 325°C – 450°C. The films were characterized by SEM. Using Arheniu's equation, it is known that the activation energy value of film growth is positive in the range of temperature of 325°C – 400°C and negative in the range of temperature of 400°C – 450°C. These results show that the decomposition rate in the range of temperature of 325°C – 400°C is due to diffusion phase of precursor gas. On the other hand, the decomposition rate decreased in the range of temperature of 400°C – 450°C because the precursor gas decreased, and the surface chemical reaction was high.

Overfishing is a global environmental problem that risks fisheries since many of the fish stock of the fisheries have already reduced to below a tolerable level. One of solutions that often implemented in the fishery management is by calculating the value of Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) as the maximum tolerable harvest that can be taken out from the natural stock without harming the population over an indefinite period of time. A proper tool used for computing the MSY is needed to support the fishery manager in solving this decision making problem. In this paper we propose a software development of Decision Support System (DSS) to address such fishery industry problem. The DSS is developed to compute the MSY from the annual yield-effort data of the fishery. We use two sigmoid growth equations, Logistic and Gompertz equations, as the underlying population models, which then are approximated by their discrete forms for computing several growth parameters. Most known methods of growth parameter estimation use a Multiple Linear Regression with Ordinary Least Square method (MLR-OLS). Here we propose the application of Artificial Neural Network with Linear Perceptron method (ANN-LP). A case study in this paper shows that the effectiveness of the proposed ANN-LP is as good as the MLR-OLS in estimating both the growth parameters and the MSY of the fishery in the case study needed in the computation of its MSY by using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) Linear Perceptron.

Bioremediation of Aged Petroleum Oil Contaminated Soil: From Laboratory Scale to Full Scale Application

Large quantity of aged petroleum oil contamination such as dehydrated oil sludge, generated in the disposal process of oil-containing sewage in Indonesia. This study aims to investigate the OSCS removal by mean of bioremediation technique. Results found that petrofilic consortia and biosurfactants addition increased the removal efficiency up to 46% and 85%, respectively. At full scale application, this technique succeed in removing of 46 g TPH per kg soil from 4 883 m 3 of OSCS during 16 mo of treatment. These results suggest that petrofilic consortia and biosurfactants addition stimulate the biodegradation and overcome the limitation of OSCS degradation process.

Heart auscultation is a screening method done by listening using a stethoscope for early diagnosis of heart disease, it is low cost and non-invasive, but it has a limitation of human hearing. This paper presents a noise-robust feature extraction method by combining and selecting a heart sound (HS) feature in time and frequency domain. Wavelet decomposition (WD) is used for noise removal. Features are extracted by AR-PSD and used as inputs for classification. The nine types of abnormal HS that were taken from Michigan Heart Sound Database were classified into nine categories. In this research, statistics features in time and frequency domain are used as additional features. Correlation-based Feature Selection (CFS) is used to select the best feature among 13 features extracted. The performance of a new feature set is called Feature Set 3 compared to CFS. The result shows that the proposed feature set achieves the highest level of accuracy.

Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) relies in routing protocols for route discovery from sender to receiving nodes. There are two routing protocols that are evaluated: Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol (HWMP) and Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR). Packet delivery is very crucial in telecommunication. Data rate of connections relate closely with the performance of packet delivery in telecommunication especially WMN. HWMP and OLSR have different mechanisms of route discovery which are affected by the changes of data rate of connections and can affect the packet delivery of data. This experiment focuses in evaluating the performance of both protocols under different conditions of data rate of connections. The objective of this experiment is to evaluate the performance of both protocols and find the relevancy between the results of simulations and theories of the mechanism of both protocols. All of the simulations are done with using Network Simulator Version 3. The simulations are done for more than 100 times in order to get the consistency of the results of simulations and to evaluate the natural behaviors of both protocols. © 2014 IEEE.

Different shapes and dimensions of test specimens are used for the determination of the uniaxial compressive strength of concrete. In order to compare strength results conversion formulas are needed. Those formulas are well-known for vibrated concrete (VC), whereas this is not the case for self-compacting concrete (SCC). In the paper, strength ratios of SCC are compared to those for VC as suggested by different standards. In total 24 powder-type SCC mixtures and 2 VC mixtures have been prepared and studied in order to analyze the effect on the strength ratio of several parameters, including the type of cement. The influence of the water-to-cement ratio (W/C), the cement-to-powder ratio (C/P) and the powder content (P) is investigated as well. The same mix procedure is applied in the three laboratories. In the mixtures SCC P520, SCC P560, SCC ref and SCC P640, the powder content varies, while C/P and W/C are kept constant. The effect is studied by replacing gravel by crushed limestone or crushed porphyry. The influence of the water-to-cement ratio, the cement-to-powder ratio, the powder content, the type of cement, the filler, the superplasticizer and the aggregate, on the compressive strength conversion factors seems to be insignificant or too scattered to be considered.

Tropical cyclone rainfall structure affecting indochina peninsula and lower mekong river basin (LMB)

Indochina Peninsula is located in between Bay of Bengal (BoB) and South-China Sea (SCS). This region is affected frequently from Tropical Cyclones (TCs) formed in North Indian Ocean (NIO), South-China Sea (SCS), and North West Pacific Ocean (NWP). This research analyzed the structure of the rainfall over Indochina Peninsula and its relationships with TCs from the aforementioned sources. Principle Component Analysis (PCA) was performed to investigate the dominant rainfall area produced from those TCs. Spatial and Temporal structures of rainfall from the TCs is analyzed to understand their propagation. The results show that the dominant TC rainfall area covers Central Vietnam which contributed around 25% to total rainfall in the region. However, the contribution of this TC rainfall over LMB is likely less than 20% where Laos's territory receives highest contribution (20%). Furthermore, from the three source areas, TCs formed in SCS produce the highest rain rate when they develop into typhoon intensity stage of Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC)'s scale. The average duration of TC rainfall over Indochina Peninsula is 81.28 hours, and over LMB is 66.22 hours. Thus, same as other regions in the Indochina Peninsula, LMB is affected by TC rainfall with considerable scales both spatially and temporally that may lead to significant hydrometeorological hazards.

One of many applications of spinel ferrite nanoparticles is related to their performance as radar absorbing materials. In this work, we report developing synthesis method through combined coprecipitation-sonochemical routes in preparing Zn0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticle from iron sand in Indonesia as a vital raw material. The structure, size, morphology, and elements of the Zn0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticle were investigated via X-Ray diffractometry and Transmission/Scanning Electron Microscopy (TEM/SEM) combining Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). The magnetic properties of the Zn0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticle were characterized by using Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). Furthermore, the reflection loss character of the Zn0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticle was determined via Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). From the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the XRD data, it can be identified that the Zn0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 particle formed a spinel cubic structure in a single phase with the lattice parameter of approximately 8.401 Å. It is known from the TEM image that the Zn0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 particle had a size of about 9.7 nm and tended to agglomerate. Furthermore, the data analysis of the M(H) curve presented that the Zn0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticle has a superparamagnetic behavior with the saturation magnetization of approximately 43 emu/g. Finally, the data analysis of the reflection loss as a function of frequency showed that the Zn0.5Mn0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticle performs as a radar absorbing material with the absorption performance of approximately -11.0 dB at the frequency of 10.8 GHz

Analysis of Mw 7.2 2014 Molucca Sea earthquake and its aftershocks

A Mw 7.2 earthquake struck an area in the Molucca Sea region on November 15, 2014, and was followed by more than 300 aftershocks until the end of December 2014. This earthquake was the second largest event in the Molucca Sea during the last decade and was well recorded by local networks. Although the seismicity rate of the aftershocks was declining at the end of 2014, several significant earthquakes with magnitude (Mw) larger than five still occurred from January to May 2015 within the vicinity of the mainshock location. In this study, we investigated the earthquake process and its relation to the increasing seismicity in the Molucca Sea within six months after the earthquake. We utilized teleseismic double-difference hypocenter relocation method using local, regional, and teleseismic direct body-wave arrival times of 514 earthquakes from the time of mainshock occurrence to May 2015. Furthermore, we analyzed the focal mechanism solutions from the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED), Japan. From our results, we observed that aftershocks propagated along the NNE-SSW direction within a 100 km fault segment length of the Mayu Ridge. The highest number of the aftershocks was located in the SSW direction of the main event. The aftershocks were terminated at around 60 km depth, which may represent the location of the top of the Molucca Sea Plate (MSP). Between January and May 2015, several significant earthquakes propagated westward and were extended to the Molucca Sea slab. From focal mechanism catalog, we found that the mainshock mechanism was reverse with strike 192o and dip 55o. While most of the large aftershock mechanisms were consistent with the main event, several aftershocks had reverse, oblique mechanisms. Stress inversion result from focal mechanism data revealed that the maximum stress direction was SE and was not perpendicular with fault direction.
