We present the results of a search for gravitational-wave transients associated with core-collapse supernova SN 2023ixf, which was observed in the galaxy Messier 101 via optical emission on 2023 May 19, during the LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA 15th engineering Run. We define a five-day on-source window during which an accompanying gravitational-wave signal may have occurred. No gravitational waves have been identified in data when at least two gravitational-wave observatories were operating, which covered ∼14% of this five-day window. We report the search detection efficiency for various possible gravitational-wave emission models. Considering the distance to M101 (6.7 Mpc), we derive constraints on the gravitational-wave emission mechanism of core-collapse supernovae across a broad frequency spectrum, ranging from 50 Hz to 2 kHz, where we assume the gravitational-wave emission occurred when coincident data are available in the on-source window. Considering an ellipsoid model for a rotating proto-neutron star, our search is sensitive to gravitational-wave energy 1 × 10⁻⁴ M_⊙c² and luminosity 2.6 × 10⁻⁴ M_⊙c² s⁻¹ for a source emitting at 82 Hz. These constraints are around an order of magnitude more stringent than those obtained so far with gravitational-wave data. The constraint on the ellipticity of the proto-neutron star that is formed is as low as 1.08, at frequencies above 1200 Hz, surpassing past results. © 2025. The Author(s).

Relationship between rainfall pattern, threshold and landslide process have widely developed. However, real-time observation in real landslide event is time consuming and has high degree of uncertainty. Therefore more analysis is usually developed in regional data scale with correlation between regional rainfall dataset and landslide inventory mapping. In this study, another approach is developed with a physical laboratory scale model. This research developed correlation between simulated rainfall pattern with mechanism and process of landslide. Rainfall with specific intensity and duration are given in residual volcanic soil in laboratory scale. Rainfall threshold observed between laboratory and regional model is highly correlated. There also occurred clear relationships between intensity, duration, antecedent rainfall, with rainfall’s initiation and morphology.

Internet penetration in developing countries depend on a variety of factors, including the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the density of telephone connections, and the density of personal computer users. Internet kiosks have been deployed in 21 rural ditrict areas of Garut Regency to facilitate internet access for local/district government as well as for the community who have no access to internet Each district was equiped with 10 PCs, a printer, a scanner, and an internet connection either using DSL or cellular access technology. The program was government sponsored through the Ministry of Communications and Information of the Republic of Indonesia. This program was also designed to provide education and training for the district internet kiosks operator as well as for the staffs of information technology at Garut Regency, on understanding, efficient use, management, maintenance, as well as the ethical/professional use of information to upgrade their skills. This study was then conducted to evaluate factors affecting internet penetration in rural areas of Garut Regency, West Java of Indonesia.

In this paper the coverage and capacity of CDMA system is evaluated using admission and power control to serve for low to medium speed internet services, such as digital TV or film/video streaming in rural areas. One of the unique characteristics of CDMA system is that it is possible to trade off between capacity and its coverage, called the cell-breathing. Open loop and closed loop power control can be used to increase the capacity of CDMA system; while admission control can be applied to trade-off between its capacity and the coverage. Computer simulation was conducted to evaluate the power control performance in Rayleigh fading channel. Then semi-analytical evaluation was performed to obtain the coverage-capacity trade-off. The result shows that the capacity of CDMA systems increases when power control was employed. Numerical and semi analytical evaluation show that CDMA coverage and capacity can be traded-off to meet various demand of traffic capacity and cell coverage in rural environments.

Volcanostratigraphy is stratigraphy related to volcanism and its products. This includes stratigraphy for a general scoping of a regional area and detailed analysis in a local area. On the basis of Indonesian Stratigraphic Code 1996, from low to high rank, volcanostratigraphic units are Hummock (Gumuk), Crown (Khuluk), Brigade (Bregada), Super Brigade (Manggala), and Arc (Busur). For more detailed stratigraphic study these ranked units can be classified into genetic rock units based on source location, processes and absolute age. Genetic processes include transportation and cooling or deposition mechanisms. These lead to physical- and chemical- properties of the volcanic rocks and provide the history of volcanism and potentially geothermal processes in an area. For many areas in Indonesia the understanding of the volcanostratigraphy is an important dataset for geothermal exploration.

Preliminary result of earthquake hypocenter determination using hypoellipse around western Java region

West Java region is located in high seismicity and active tectonic setting region influenced by subducting Indo-Australian plate beneath Eurasia plate. There are several on land active faults namely Cimandiri fault, Lembang fault, and Baribis fault in the region. MCGA earthquake data catalog from 2009 to 2014 shows the earthquakes were located not only around active faults but also relatively far away from the active faults in West Java region. In this study, we determined the earthquake location through re-picking of P-and S-wave arrival times recording by MCGA network. Earthquake location was determined by using Hypoellipse code that employs a single event determination method. We then relocated the events using hypocenter double-difference method. We also have been conducting focal mechanism analysis to estimate the type of fault slip. Our preliminary results show generally the epicenter location were distributed around the on land active fault which have the focus depth less than 30 km. For ongoing and future works, we have been determining focal mechanism of selected event related to on land active fault for this region..

Analysis of spatiotemporal variation in b-value for the Sunda arc using high precision earthquake location

The Sunda arc is one of the most active tectonic regions, which has a complex tectonic setting due to different tectonic regimes and subduction geometry along this arc. We analyzed variation in b-value for this region in order to obtain better information regarding the state of stress in this region. For the first step, we relocated earthquake hypocenters taken from the BMKG catalog for the period 2009 – 2015 by employing a teleseismic double-difference (DD) relocation method and using a 3D velocity model. There are 10,440 earthquakes that were successfully relocated with greatly reduced residual errors. Based on its tectonic feature and earthquake distribution, we divided the study area into 8 regions, i.e. northern Sumatra, central Sumatra, southern Sumatra, Sunda strait, western Java, eastern Java, lesser Sunda islands, and Sunda-Banda transition zone. For b-value analysis we combined the BMKG catalog with the International Seismological Centre (ISC) catalog from 2006 to 2009 to obtain a longer time period. We analyzed the spatial variation in b-value for western sunda arc and found a low b-value that matches well with earthquake locations.

An earthquake with magnitude 4.2 struck Madiun and its vicinity on June 25, 2015. According to Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at 10:35:29 GMT+7 and was located in 7.73° S, 111.69 ° E, with a depth of 10 km. At least 57 houses suffered from light to medium damages. We reprocessed earthquake waveform data to obtain an accurate hypocenter location. We manually picked P- and S-waves arrival times from 12 seismic stations in the eastern part of Java. Earthquake location was determined by using Hypoellipse code that employs a single event determination method. Our inversion is able to resolve the fix-depth and shows that the earthquake occurred at 10:35:27.6 GMT+7 and was located in 7.6305° S, 111.7529 ° E with 14.81 km focus depth. Our location depicts a smaller travel time residual compared to that based on the BMKG result. Focal mechanism of the earthquake was determined by using HASH code. We used first arrival polarity of 9 seismic records with azimuthal gap less than 90°, and estimated take-off angles by using assumption of homogenous medium. Our focal mechanism solution shows a strike-slip mechanism with strike direction of 163o, which may be related to a strike-fault in Klangon, an area to the east of Madiun.
