Community empowerment through development of biogas installation with fixed dome plant technology in Kenteng Village, Nogosari District, Boyolali Regency

Kenteng Village has the potential for beef development due to its high cattle population. However, cow dung waste produced by farmers has not been optimally used, hence its additional benefits have not contributed to the community's economy. This has also led to environmental pollution due to improper waste management. Therefore, empowerment efforts are needed to improve farmers' knowledge and skills in managing livestock manure to increase their income and create environmentally friendly conditions through training activities on the manufacture of organic bio-slurry fertilizer as well as maintenance and construction of biogas installations using fixed dome plant technology. Furthermore, the training was held from August 15-September 26, 2021, in Kenteng Village, Nogosari District, Boyolali Regency. The empowerment program is implemented through Focus Group Discussion (FGD), extension, training, demonstration plots on the production technology of organic fertilizer and biogas for fuel production. Materials used in producing the fertilizer include slurry obtained from biogas waste and agricultural lime/dolomite. The dome plant constructed contains a digester with 6 main parts, namely inlet, reactor, gas reservoir, outlet, gas transport system and compost pits for degassed animal manure/bio-slurry. The training result shows an increase in farmers' knowledge and skills on the application of bio-slurry organic fertilizer production technology and the construction of biogas installations as a fuel producer. There was also an increase in their income, which improved their standard of living. Conclusively, the community in Kenteng Village was more empowered by the existence of a biogas installation development program.

Energy has an essential meaning in life to continue to develop and support economic and environmental activities. Every year energy in Indonesia increases rapidly in line with human growth. To supply energy needs, renewable energy sources must be developed. Renewable energy potentials such as solar energy have never been used on a large scale even though Indonesia has enormous energy potential. Solar energy can be used in the form of solar cells for electricity generation. The utilization of solar cells can help people who live in remote areas far from the electricity network. This research was conducted in Central Java by using descriptive qualitative methods and using research and development (R&D) methods. The technique used is an expressive qualitative analysis technique. The result solution implemented is to meet the increasing electrical energy needs of the community. This research produces renewable energy that can be used as a solution to solving the electrical energy crisis at an affordable cost and can increase the independence of the community so that it does not depend on government electricity supply and improve environmental responsibility behavior.

This study investigates the preferences and willingness of residents, including local and foreign residents, in the Bali metropolitan area to participate in various waste management initiatives aimed at promoting a circular bioeconomy. Bali, a major tourist center in the Global South, presents unique challenges and opportunities for sustainable waste management. Using a choice experiment framework, we explored preferences for managing paper, food, and garden waste through different scenarios. Scenario 1 focused on collecting and separating waste to support existing infrastructure, Scenario 2 emphasized source reduction and participation, and Scenario 3 integrated a comprehensive circular economy approach. The study reveals significant support for comprehensive waste management practices, with high marginal willingness to participate values for initiatives such as collecting and processing paper waste for energy conversion, independent composting of food waste, and community-based composting of garden waste. These findings highlight the importance of community engagement and tailored strategies in developing sustainable waste management programs. The results provide valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders to design effective circular bioeconomy policies that enhance local economic self-sufficiency and contribute to sustainable development goals. © 2025 The Authors

Handwriting prediction using the support vector machine method in web-based applications

Current technological advances have progressively encouraged individuals to use web-based applications. To determine the owner of a handwriting, one of the manual methods is generally done by people. And it can be done by a web application to find out the person’s handwriting. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) Method is a strategy of artificial intelligence used to recognize handwriting. This study intends to create a handwriting recognition framework using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) Method on a web-based application, with extraction features that are important as the basis for describing and characterizing handwritten images. The results obtained from predictions using the Support Vector Machine are by using 16 data and there are 80 tests carried out in total. The results obtained indicate that there are 25 incorrect prediction tests and 55 correct prediction tests so that the level of accuracy obtained is 68.75%.

Pulang Pisau Steam Power Plant (PLTU) is one of the plants that is used to fulfill the electricity needs of the people in Central Kalimantan Province. By using coal as a source of steam production, the Pulang Pisau PLTU has a capacity of up to 2 × 60 MW. Such a large population growth cannot be avoided and it is therefore denied that the Pulang Pisau PLTU is deemed to require additional production capacity. One alternative that can be given is to increase the amount of fuel capacity, namely coal that can be accommodated. By changing the design of the existing jetty, it is expected that ships with larger capacities can lean on the Pulang Pisau power plant pond. In this study, an analysis of sediment volume rate in the existing condition jetty and two alternative jetties in the PLTU river basin area, where the modeling is done using MIKE21. The results of the existing jetty modeling show the sedimentation volume that was line up for 12 months at 9550.017 m3, while the sedimentation volume of alternative jetty 1 and 2 produced for 12 months respectively were 917.444 m3 dan 8616.040 m3. The first alternative jetty is more efficient in dealing with sediment in terms of increasing production capacity. The alternative jetty is considered to be able to maintain the determined vessel draft and not cause excessive sedimentation impacts in the Pulang Pisau power plant area.

The optimal control input for linear systems can be solved from algebraic Riccati equation (ARE), from which it remains questionable to get the form of the exact solution. In engineering, the acceptable numerical solutions of ARE can be found by iteration or optimization. Recently, the gradient descent based numerical solutions has been proven effective to approximate the optimal ones. This paper introduces this method to tracking problem for heterogeneous linear systems. Differently, the parameters in the dynamics of the linear systems are all assumed to be unknown, which is intractable since the gradient as well as the allowable initialization needs the prior knowledge of system dynamics. To solve this problem, the method named dynamic regressor extension and mix (DREM) is improved to estimate the parameter matrices in finite time. Besides, a discounted factor is introduced to ensure the existence of optimal solutions for heterogeneous systems. Analysing the choice and pattern of needs of transportation mode for domestic tourists in Bali

Travel behaviour of domestic tourists concerning their choices of transportation mode has a significant role in managing traffic in the tourist destination. This study analyses the domestic tourists' choice and their pattern of needs of transportation mode in Bali as the case study. The developed models are based on utility maximisation of underlying preferences for each of the available modes of transport. Domestic tourists are randomly selected and interviewed using the questionnaire to record their daily trips. The study result indicates that income, number of visits and travel companions significantly influence the choice of transportation mode for domestic tourists. Meanwhile, income, number of visits, length of stays, trip purpose and main issues in selecting local transport mode significantly affect the pattern of needs of transportation mode for domestic tourists. For example, two accompanying persons will be three times more than that of seven persons or more to choose motorcycle and bus than a car. Domestic tourists who have visited Bali twice will be three times more than those who visited Bali once to use travel agents and rented vehicles than public and online transport and others. Further studies on short duration trips and sustainable mode of transport are suggested.

Feasibility study of heavy equipment using sensivity analysis

Heavy equipment investment for contractor companies is a long-term investment that can be used in various fields, such as construction projects, mining projects, and can also be leased to other parties. Before investing in heavy equipment, a feasibility study is needed to determine whether an investment is feasible or not. The feasibility study for heavy equipment investment in this research using net present value methods. The parameter assumptions in the feasibility study can change and affect the investment feasibility, so a sensitivity analysis is needed. The sensitivity analysis in this research was carried out on the parameters of fuel prices, operating costs other than fuel costs, salvage value, and working hours of heavy equipment. Based on the results of the sensitivity analysis, it is known that the parameters of fuel prices affect the feasibility of heavy equipment investment, especially in excavator and dump trucks. Both of these equipments have the shortest fuel price sensitivity range value, which is below 60%. The working hours of equipment parameters affects the feasibility of heavy equipment investment, especially excavators. If the working hours of excavator are less than 1.715 hours per year, then excavator investment is not feasible. The operational cost parameters other than fuel cost and salvage value don’t affect the investment feasibility of heavy equipment. The results of the sensitivity analysis also show that the working hours is the most influential parameters in heavy equipment investment compared to other parameters.

Distance learning is a learning process that allows students and instructors are in different physical locations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, various countries including Indonesia chose the distance learning option to avoid the spread of the pandemic. However, the implementation of distance learning is not without problems. In Indonesia, the problems to implement distance learning are enormous both in terms of equitable distribution of infrastructure and costs for accessing the internet. To overcome these problems, research about best distance learning tools and its implementation strategy is really needed. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the strategies and tools for implementing distance learning that reliable and cost-effective for the student at the same time. Based on research that has been conducted by analyzing questionnaire surveys of 256 students in Indonesia, this research recommends tools combination strategy consists of Google Classroom tool as a learning app, Whatsapp group as broadcast messaging and Zoom as a video conference media for distance learning. This research also recommended to maximize the e-learning/learning app features for theoretical lessons and consider video conference just in practical lessons so that the distance learning costs become cheaper for students. © 2020 International Information and engineering Technology Association. Cellular traffic in the literature can be classified into voice, SMS, and data. Along with the rapid development of internet technology, a cellular operator is required to have spatial-based customer behavior information as the primary data in making business policy. The use of cell phone in Jakarta is remarkably recorded, while competitors among cell phone providers unavoidably follow the costumers' behaviors. Combined methods are applied such as statistical analysis of ANOVA and multiple comparison tests supplemented by the spatial techniques using Geographic Information System (GIS) to review the time and area differences of the voice traffic changes. A cellular provider name Indosat is chosen as a case of voice traffic model data. Simple land-use types of residential classifications are set up and isolated rings of Von Thunen are reconstructed to explain more on the relationship between voice traffic of cell phone and land use distribution. The result of research indicates that the voice traffic highly varies among residential strata and commercial areas. In addition, voice traffics vary between weekdays and weekends depending on the accumulated users. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.
